*What special feature would you want to include in a fish room?* If you haven't seen it yet, here's how Cory's latest fish room renovation is going: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f17dn6eifL2DhZY

My biggest needs after foot traffic (a room you spend time in) and seating is natural light for my aquariums which are set up as displays. The fish and plants just look better with natural light, it triggers seasonal change and natural behaviors in the fish Custom stands set the aquariums at the right height for viewing, maintenance, while hiding equipment.

I'm not sure this would be considered a special feature, but I have a small section of my fishroom dedicated to tinkering with new projects and research. This space allows me to explore new methods, cheaply with re-purposed containers etc., without impact on the main gallery section of my fishroom. It also satisfies that endless need to "do something new" in the fishroom.

I have some crazy health issues and seem to always be recovering from a surgery, as a result my fish room has become 7 lightly stocked heavily planted tanks in the bed room ranging in size from 3.8 gallons to 45 gallons. This allows me to always be able to enjoy my tanks at all times.

Fish Room wisdom! I’m at a similar (smaller scale) transition where space, comfort and enjoyment are now priorities. A work in progress changing as my interests have changed. Thanks!

Personally, I think I have the best layout that works for me. I have three aquariums in my bedroom. I also have a keyboard to play music, my free-roam rabbit is set up in there, my dog’s bed is in my room. It's next to a bathroom, so easy drainage and filling. I'm mostly in my room and can hang out with my fish, rabbit and my dog all in one room! It's not crowded and the layout is smooth. Love your videos! Thank you for educating me and filling my head with aquarium knowledge!

I have a home office, and my 9 tanks (all small, the biggest are two 29G) are in that room. I'm in there all day, and when I need to take a break from the multiple puter screens, It's a pleasure to get up and spend time with my tanks. It's a very pleasurable arrangement, the fun room, if you will, even though I work in there.

As a beginner to the hobby, I've taken a lot from this. I have 3 aquariums, and I just want the fish to be happy and to enjoy living with them.

I agree with the lesson about having fish on one level, that's definitely one I learned recently. I've been doing double stands for years, but I'm tired of not being able to see fish from across the room, and that includes fish in the bottom tanks I have to stoop down to see. Only about half of my bottom tanks have fish in them now, but now I need to figure out how to downsize my fish so I can get them all on one level (without buying new tanks and stands!).

I feel like fish room layout has so many variables including what you want out of the room. There are also many different ways to achieve the same result. For me I have an 8ft by 8 ft small room with 23 tanks of various sizes. It's adjacent to my kitchen and living room so I see it almost all day. I've also enjoyed making changes to it as my hobby grows and I learn more and more.

I've taken over our dinning room as my fish room, from my living room I can see four of six tanks. We do have to walk through the dinning room to go into the kitchen, but the two tanks that see most traffic are my 75 gallon Mbuna tank and across from that just off the kitchen entry way is my 55gallon with a couple EBA, Angel fish and a couple Turkana Jewel cichlids, I even have my ball python which we've had for the last 23 years in a 55 set up in there. The only spot there isn't a tank is one corner where we have a hutch with nick nacks, but I've been contemplating moving that into out living room and building a triple stack rack of 20 gallons for quarantine, grow out and using the last tank for our guppies (as a winter tank) that we usually have in the small pond in the back yard. I have a drain system built into all the bigger tanks and with a turn of a knob I can drain either tank down within a few minutes, the 20's I still use the bucket method which isn't a problem. If I could figure out how to post pics on KZbin I would, I'm proud of the set ups how I keep the tanks clean and clear with all fish being happy and healthy.

WOW just came back recently after not watching your content for a bit and it’s still A-Tier. Keep it up budd! My “Monster” Fish tank is a 125g w an Oscar 2 other cichlids 1 catfish and 2 pleco’s. With a 35gal sump to add some more water volume. I also have a 55 g on standby with just Cory’s and tons of Flame Moss if I need to separate or medicate. And 1 20g tank with 2 axolotls that I just had to put a divider into to separate them

👍🏻😎I have 3 tanks right now and I might add 1-2 more and that will be it. I have 36 years in the hobby and still enjoy it but I'm not going overboard with it because the burnout factor is real and I want to enjoy the time I have left in life. I started the hobby when I was 24 and I'll be 60 next month.

I agree that you should be able to spend time where your fish are easily and comfortably and also care for them easily. I really like your current fish room. I have a 20 gallon by my desk, a 20 gallon that my hubby and I can both view from our comfy chairs while watching tv or reading. We also have a 10 gallon in the dinning room where we eat all our meals. That is plenty of tanks for me to care for.

My 4 main tanks are where we can enjoy them most. I work long hours at home so 3 20 gallons surround the walls in front of my desk The 40 gallon is in the great room. I have a small 10 gallon patio pond in my screen porch which is another place we spend a lot of time in. I guess i have used my tanks like accessories to my spaces.

Is there a way to determine how much weight a structure can hold? I have a shed that 12’x16’. It’s wood floor, wood frame, but metal walls and roof. It’s leveled in my yard, but it’s elevated so there is a crawl space underneath. My outdoor fish will have to be moved or I have to build a frame around the tubs and insulate it. I’d enjoy hearing you talk about options when you can’t bring your tub fish inside the home. I’m in Deep South Alabama now.

You’re right , no one talks about layouts . That would make a good KZbin channel . Go into people homes and consult about fishroom payouts ! I accidentally did some of this . My desk and half my books are in a room with 4 tanks . My 20 gallon in my sitting room . So, I get to “ hang with the fishies” even when I’m doing other things

I can see the allure of a fish room, but will never do it. I'd spend all my time in one room of my house and potentially neglect the rest. We have two nano tanks and a walstad-style jar in the kitchen, two 75s in tbe den. A 55 in the master bedroom, a 5 in the office. Another 55 and two more nanos in tbe basement for breeding projects. It's a bit more hassle lugging cleaning equipment around, but I enjoy all of my house and spend rime with different fish at different times of day this way.

I went through multiple tanks of various smaller sizes scattered around my home, and a patio tub. It became a pain in the backside to keep on top of maintenance. Consolidated to a single 75 gallon on a workbench in my dining / living room. It also has a side car 10 gallon tank that houses 2 virgin female guppies and a mystery snail. (Had a lace fin female give birth in there, then I moved her back in the big tank, and I pulled out the young males as soon as I could sex them. Once the fry were old enough to sex, I only left the fish I was certain were female. They've been full size for a couple months now, and no fry. Now to pick a beautiful stud for them!)

I have 5 total tanks. A 24 gallon in my dining room that I watch every time I eat, two 10 gallons by my desk, a 32 gallon saltwater in my work room that myself and my clients enjoy, as well as a random brine shrimp grow out tank I raise as food for my seahorses. I'm able to get my RO/DI water from outside ans my tanks are small enough I can just use small buckets. And I have a long hose when I drain the tanks that the dirty water can easily just go outside.

I've downsized in the last few years and I enjoy having a smaller number of aquariums, but how do I balance that mindset while also being curious about keeping new fish, trying to breed them, etc? I have stores that will take fish, but once I have them for a while I care about their well-being and don't feel great about taking them back to the store.

I really love the advice you have been giving since your personal journey and inner look at yourself, it has really resonated with me🫶 especially since I am in a wheelchair and as much as I love all 19 of my 200ltr tanks I think the time has come to enjoy 7-8 of them rather than all of them as you said, I need to have a reason to go in to see them,I could be bed bound for up to a week and only looking at the few in my room and my carers feed the others and look after them more than I do sometimes.
