I've seen what you can do on various highlight videos here on youtube. Your high level of skill is amazing. What I find more amazing is that you are willing to put a tutorial up about such a basic move (relative to what you can do) to help out those of us struggling with a back full. This video has helped me a lot. Thanks!

Greg, I don't know if you'll see this question, but I'll ask it anyway. I want to progress as a gymnast on trampoline, but I feel like I have a serious mechanical issue with the way I spin. I'm a left twister when rotating backwards (back full, back double full), but I'm a right twister when rotating forwards (barani, rudy, fliffus, and roundoff). This difference in spinning direction makes some tricks impossible for me to do (like a rudy in back full out), and it makes connecting forward and rearward twisting tricks difficult. I don't really feel all that comfortable twisting right on my rudy, then hitting the trampoline and reversing the spin direction to twist left on my back double full. My question comes in three parts: 1) How big of a problem is this? 2) If it's a problem, and I need to change the direction of rotation for either forward or backward spinning tricks, is it easier to change the direction of my rearward spin or my forward spin? 3) Is it too late to correct this problem? I've been spinning and flipping both forward and backward for over 10 years, and I don't know if it's even possible or safe to try and correct this issue. Have you ever coached someone with this problem, and if so how did you, if at all, guide them through correcting it?

Nice tutorial. I'm a diver (started 2 years ago) and I'd like to learn the back full on the trampoline but I'd rather use the diving twist position (one arm above the head and the other tucked to the chest). Should I just do the same drills or should they be modified?
@mstinson232 жыл бұрын
As late 40s flipper your tutorials have been amazing! A lot of twisting does NOT come easy for me. The way your break things down is much how I break down teaching jiu-jitsu and has really helped me understand what it is that I need to get my body to do. I have managed backfulls....and even did a 540 but doubles still elude me. Another trick I am dying to get is what you call a corkscrew (I learned them as Rudy cradles). I watched your tutorial on them in your instructor course but I just cannot get my body to both cradle AND twist. I have landed it on accident a few times, but can't make it work. Anyway....really just wanted to say thanks for your tutorials and I hope you put more out!

like anything there is something to be said about the equipment but for this skill you should be able to do it on any trampoline, good or bad. you dont need height for it.

Nathan River u r correct, a cody and ball out are just the same technique but you wait until you are vertical then repeat the steps above.

Greg, why around 7m mark you're saying that you don't want to sacrifice the twist because you don't want to break or ankles. Is that because you don't want to land while still twisting? Is that dangerous or just an exaggeration? :-)

The best tutorial I've seen on this, but I'm having trouble landing on my back after half turn? End up on my bum or feet. How can I fix it?
@flippertvofficial7 жыл бұрын
you are doing 3/4 back stomach drop bounce half turn to seat drop, instead of staying flat on your back? (Sitting up) , go lower and forget form, just land stomach bounce 2 times on stomach and then turn over. bouncing extra on stomach will give you time to properly think about staying flat. You are going to fast i would guess. Send a video if anything on instagram :)

Lifting your left arm UP creates the twist, the arm moving across does nothing. It's the left arm lifting on the 3/4 back that makes you twist. Later on in the video when you do the full it's your right arm dropping to the SIDE that makes you twist. Right arm first then left arm. Basic tilt mechanics.

Overall I do like the tutorial, but there are some fundamental problems. The techniques cater more to trampolinists indefinitely, so teaching the old school "wait, flip, twist" is impractical for gymnasts who don't have the time in the air to use a "wait" type of technique. Secondly, what I also disagree with is teaching people those three steps in the air. Again, not only do most people when tumbling not have that much height in their flip to be able to "wait, flip, twist", but they also will not have time to be able to think about those steps in mid-air, so teaching that technique for gymnasts is not ideal. Lastly, I don't know who ever decided that twisting immediately off the floor is "cheating"...like where did that come from? I hear so many old school coaches telling athletes not to do that, but for someone who wants to twist as much as possible (as in doing quads), waiting purposefully in the set is not the most efficient way to twist fast as it wastes time in the air that you could have used to already start twisting if you combine both the set and the twist in one motion and simply wrap fast and tight. Watch Kenzo Shirai do his back 4.5 to front full... nobody else on earth can do that (right now) and he twists immediately off the ground and makes it around because he perfected the "twisting set", so I would say that instead of this being "cheating", it's actually technique perfection.
