Shiny object syndrome! I lost so much time doing this! Not any more. It took a lot of work shaking it. Then, I started to improve.

The best way I've found to learn languages is to incorporate practice in my daily life when I am doing tasks on auto-pilot. The best part of this is that it does not require motivation, it turns into something you don't questions and you always do, like brushing your teeth. E.g. if I am cooking, I will listen to a podcast in Swedish or Russian. Since I cook every day, I do not need to "force myself" to practice, it is simply an automatic habit😊

I'm surprised that this is one of the very few times I'm hearing about "shiny object syndrome" being a barrier to learning. It's such a huge factor to the learning process. Kudos for bringing it up as I can't count how many times I've been caught by this trap with regards to learning different hobbies/skill/etc.

For those new to language learning (or this channel), I can tell all of you that “needing to carve out time” becomes less and less work to the point it’s replacing your English (or native language) input. As yourself, “Do I need to listen to this Taylor Swift song I’ve already heard 7,294,440.0983 times?” No-you don’t. Switch it for a language! Do that, build up comprehension, then repeat with other activities. Snow ball effect, etc!

You can get great language audio input here on youtube with bilingual stories, they will read a sentence of a story in English then read the same sentence in target language. Polyglot Beats on youtube does that well for multiple languages and there other channels for specific languages... its been helping me get passive listening and learning when going on walks... time is by FAR hardest obstacle in language learning - anything that can get us some passive learning is a plus 😊

Please, deactivate "KZbin AI Dubbing" for your channel. I'm here to learn English, not to hear AI's voice in another language, please, please, please…
