At least to me, that I’ve followed you through all these years, I think you are one of the the best polyglots in the world, I’ve seen thousand of videos but no one talks and explains as clearly and well as you do it. Amazingly, whilst watching this video I had the same thing in my head. How is it possible that such an useful channel full of easy-to-follow and didactic videos has that number of views and subscribers? I've been following his content since he'd just started uploading his first videos and I've been subscribed since then. I met a polyglot at a party the other day and OF COURSE he knew Luca Lampariello, who wouldn't? But I guess the polyglot world is not as big as we think it is. By the way, GRAZIE LUCA, sei una grande inspirazione per tantissimi qua! Bacione!

because every other "polyglot" has videos titled something among the lines of "Polyglot speaks 12 languages". I'm not suggesting Luca to do this, but I think that that's the main reason.

Tutti i giorni. I fine settimana un po' di grammatica e esercizi. In un anno vedrò i risultati. Secondo me riuscirò😊

Lately I have been using three resources: 1) Linguaphone All Talk CDs, 2) Pimsleur audio files via audible.com, and 3) Assimil With Ease packages combining audio CDs, audio mp3s, and books. I mostly use them in 1), 2), 3) order, but sometimes I get a little ahead of myself, just for fun. I like that the products have similarities in content among languages, and that they focus on getting the sound of the language into me before grinding and galloping grammar rubs and runs rampant rhetoric into my consciousness via workbooks such as the Practice Makes Perfect series with several books per language. I normally do not use music lyrics because they are too idiomatic, and most novels are too slow to read because of my relatively limited vocabulary, but I am attracted to the News Read Real Slow because it can be interesting at times, even with at dictionary ready at hand.

I think skipping through various resources is an important stage in starting to learn languages. If I had stuck to one resource, I wouldn't have a thorough idea of what does and doesn't work for me when it comes to learning languages. It might feel like a waste of time at first, but it's actually quite invaluable! I also found that I simply like variety :)

Hi Luca, this video is really helpful and I definitely agree with what you say. Using 10 different resources at the same time, in the same week is difficult and you will drown. I am learning Korean and I proceed like this: - I start by using a general, comprehensive textbook to have an overview of the level I am at (beginner/intermediate/advanced). Then, once I am finished with it, I fine tune each skill separately. I focus on reading for a certain number of weeks, then on listening, on pronunciation, on grammar etc. I just make sure to speak everyday using an app and I watch Korean movies every weekend to improve my listening comprehension. I focus on one movie per month, so I watch it with subtitles, then without. I work on each skill, but I do it separately and it works for me.

You are my role model 🌺 The fact that your Italian and you have the ability to speak English that way inspires me makes me feel motivated. I used to learn French when I was in the High school for three years, and, of course, due to the educational system that you were speaking about in the video, I wasn't able even to read a short story for kids in French. Thinking of this makes me feel disappointed and don't have the energy to learn French from the beginning, despite the fact that I still remember a little. I'm working on my English at the present time and have started learning Russian. Just wanted to share this with you. And say thank you for your inspiration 🌺 Greetings from Egypt 🌺

I've just tuned in to this KZbin channel minutes ago bcz I saw a video of you in easy German channel, and your method of translation is a good solution to understand grammar and structure of the language, it did work with me well over the last five years since I've started learning English and was a great aid for me to develop large arsenal of vocubs in both my mother tongue and English as well as developed a skill in translation.I have recently started learning German about months ago and I quite developed to a basic level of conversation and understanding the structure of this language through the translation method. I've decided to learn German not just to dabble, rather lifelong committment-much to my hope -as I did with English. Learning languages takes time,lifelong committment ,hard work .I blv the reason why people get bored with learning languages is that that they limit their learning of languages within specific time period,eventually they get frustrated and quit.

I start with duolingo if possible to acquire the basics and then i use Netflix, KZbin, apps like tandem to learn by listening and by speaking as soon as possible. I love grammar too so i always give it a look but more importantly i keep it fun 😉

I think having multiple resources is essential for keeping yourself interested and motivated, as well as gathering more knowledge. I used to learn German through a paid course with work books and sometimes using Duolingo and I basically wasted my time because I didn't diversify my learning.

In other words: go straight to exposing to the language comsuming a lot of comprehensible and enjoyable language input and don't lose your time focusing too much on conscious grammar studying. I think choosing one or several resources is up to you. But it's true that it's not worth spending too much time on searching or choosing too many resources and then get lost in them and loose your motivation. Keep a good balance 😉 Luca is brilliant as always!

I'm a native english speaker learning Spanish and i find the best for me is to learn spanish is with another english native teacher who has mastered spanish fluently instead of a course all through spanish with a spanish teacher.This doesn't help me because they don't understand what's happening in my head.An english speaker knows and can tell me straight away what such and such means instead of me spending hours trying to figure it out. I will do this for other languages in the future.So much faster.And when there's no direct translation they can just tell me this means this in english since they've already figure it out.This saves me time.

The way I interpret this advice is to differentiate between "formal" resources on the one hand, i.e. resources that teach you the language overtly, and "immersive" resources that contain no formal instruction, but teach the language implicitly, i.e. music, podcasts, Netflix, KZbin, interactions with native speakers, etc. So I think of it as "use one formal resource", but complement with immersion as much as you like.

I was on Doulingo for a 50 day streak. Completed the Swedish tree 50% to 5th level and the rest to at least 2nd level. Now I am using Drop free version (5 min per day) and Memrise non-app version (1 hr per day) and reading through Olly Richards' Short Stories In Swedish in parallel with the audio book when I have time (about an hour per day). When I'm not actively studying, I have KZbin videos in Swedish or explaining Swedish mixed into my play lists.

My resource is looking for interaction (tándems, groups of learning in social networks, Whats App messages) , because that makes me look for how to communicate something. In this way I look for new vocabulary and for "building" enough comprehensible phrases and I learn a lot about how speakers use their language. Another simple resource is a notebook, where I often write many things in my target language. Another resource is a diary, that I use now and then. Also a text specially designed to learn with activities with audio, now and then. And finally comprehensible texts (that are actually very hard to find for beginners) but there are some. As you have told in your vídeo, I look not for having a lot of vocabulary, but to be able to use the one that I have. With the time, normally I need to increase my vocabulary while I have more situation in which I want to communicate something.

I'll always believe grammar is the crucial first step for adults. You have to start somewhere. It gives you something to hang your boots on, correct pronunciation included. Then, your concept of building from a base. Internet, in conjunction with television brought language learning up to 21st century. One can become fluent without ever leaving their home.
@samykiani944
@samykiani944 4 жыл бұрын
I don't believe that grammar is the first step. For me it's listenin to the language and it's melody and prononciation, then looking at easy phrases. Grammar comes after that.

Some people say you can pick up grammar without thinking about it. After all, that's what children do. But I'm not a child, and I actually like grammar. It gives me the rules for how to put things together. I don't want to be using the present tense, when I mean the past. And I don't want to sound illiterate and, in effect, disrespectful of the language. I want to speak Standard German, Standard Latin American Spanish, and Standard French, just as I usually speak Standard English. Don't get me wrong. I like picking up colloquialisms and slang along the way, but I want to keep clear what's Standard and what's colloquial. Duolingo has improved over the years by adding more lessons to their language courses and, importantly, by adding more tips that explain the grammar. If you use Duolingo, always STUDY the tips before beginning the lesson. And if you don't understand an exercise--why your answer is wrong or even why your answer is correct--click to look at the discussion. After acquiring a modest but useful vocabulary from Duolingo, I turn to a resource like Schaum's Outline of German Grammar that has a ton of exercises with answers in the back. Then it's on to reading, watching videos with subtitles in the target language, and finding people to converse with. I also like learning lyrics to songs--just because it's fun! And I may learn (memorize) a few poems for the same reason. I can't imagine learning a language I don't love. Deine Zauber binden wieder Was die Mode streng geteilt; Alle Menschen werden Brüder Wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt .

I am not sure that i can agree on that. I guess it depends *how* you are learning a language. I, for myself, see in language learning different topics, as grammar, reading, listening or speaking, and I am looking for each field for the right tool. So, I did it with Spanish or with English and so I will do it with any other languages in which I am interesting in, like French (despite I have an on-off relationship with this language :D, but this is a whole different topic)

If I may I would like to recommend forvo.com when you come up with a phrase with no audio. You can ask a native speaker to pronounce for you. It's a great community and is free.

Ciao Luca, complimentoni innanzitutto.

Saludos cordiales Erdogan Seref
