I wish we had this pasta analogy in our strength of material subject. Man, when he said he knew the formula for and how to analyze moment problems but he didn't know what basically it is about, i couldn't relate more. Hahaha Sometimes, it really is the complicated terms and definitions that make understanding things harder. Reminds me of that scene in the movie 3 Idiots when the prof asked what is a simple machine then Rancho gave a very simple definition of it but the prof wanted the textbook definition instead. This was definitely a very helpful content, Engr. Young!

ikr.... basic examples for the concept to be really understood. Some teachers/professors mechanically teach math and concepts and failing to remember that some people learn in different ways. And visual learning of a concept is one of the best methods to comprehend a subject. It seems they are counting on the student's eagerness to learn and research... though with the internet, I guess it isn't a bad thing. Still, though, I prefer efficiency in teaching, and teachers and students alike should upgrade their synergy for better education.

“Murag boring ni sya noh?” Huy dili hud, Sir Slater! I am a doctor but I really enjoy learning different things. General/ basic knowledge like this is very important to learn more in depth because these are things that we encounter everyday! Sauna, pag mag warm kog lampin sa baby if naay manganak, magthink kog thermal conductivity coefficient, para lng pd efficient akng pag warm. 😅 When I bake, sahay makahunahuna ko sa viscosity sa frosting ug sa surface tension (apparently no conclusive correlation pa as per studies). These are things that I hope high school students appreciate while they are studying pa. Sometimes mn gd school can make it feel like a burden. But math, physics, chem... THEY ARE EVERYWHERE. they are imprinted in our lives. Huhu nerdy kaau ko paminawn, pero I really am not. Makalingaw lng mag apply sa learnings sa real life. That way pud, you keep them in mind better. :)

I'm in my "soon" (huhu unta) last year in Civil Engineering karon and sa tanan tanan na akong na experience and naka balik balik naman gyud kog subjects, over all tip lang gyud para saako to learn and absorb something is to "Start learning the basic concepts" kay or because biggest mistake gyud nako na gina neglect nako or gina skip ang basic factors sa lesson or anything. No matter how easy it is, it is really better to have the knowledge from the basics. it's also because the more the problem or the lesson becoming complex, so diha naman gyud ta mastress but I learned something from one of my professors (dili hinuon verbally or gi direct niya ug ingon, nag chikka lang siya about sa iyang past experiences and I just remember the important point sa iyang chikka), no matter how complex or difficult the problem gets, the solutions are from the basics. It's where every equations or solutions are derived or comes from. tbh di gyud ko kasabot aning strength of materials maskin pag gahimo mig plates ani pero this was the essential root to understand the theory, rc, steel and other last majors nagyud ahahaha Never neglect to learn the basics !!

"Like you're teaching it to a 7yr. old, its sounds simple but it's not easy" I COMPLETELY AGREE!!! I'm a Fine Arts Graduate, and I teach Painting from ages 5 and above. Some have basic knowledge, others are completely clueless about anything art related. So explaining and simplifying terms is quite tricky. Sometimes you don't even know where to begin. A trick I learned was, getting to know your student and relating the topic to something they're intrested in. Pictures help too 😄 Also, seeing them curious and so eager to learn from you feels life changing haha 😂 It's like you inspired them to changed their views when it comes to art, and have them respect and appreciate it more. Both the process and the outcome 💯 Kudos to this awesome vid, Mr. Slater! (Big fan btw 😄🙌🏻)

The topics Slater just discussed are so important and is actually studied as early as ur first or 2nd yr in eng (this is in our current curriculum sa dlsu). It’s so important na una palang u already have a good foundation kn these topics cos gorl u are going to take all those again sa susunod na yrs!! And this time around u rly have to have MASTERED them already! In addition to the tips slater just said, i also advice to not just memorize formulas but rather really delve into the concepts behind everything! It will rly help in such a way na minsan pa nga u dont have to memorize the formulas cos u can easily remember/derive the formulas from the concepts u have studied! And then, once u think u have already understood the topics, it’s time to practice and practice and practice them all again in all levels of difficulty! This is because we shouldnt just study to pass but rather to get the best score that we can and be able to apply this sa future!! Para even when u get a score lower than ur real goal, at least passing at above ave naman! Hahahaha kung makasalita ako akala mo graduate na. I’m still in my 3rd yr now and fortunately kinakaya naman and hopefully soon magiging Engr. na rin like boss idol Slater over heree hahaha
