I found a similar method by myself. It's similar like yours. The only diference is I write a short story with any word I learnt. For example, I'll use the words you've given us on this video: "Early in the morning, I was waiting my bus at the *bus stop* . Suddenly, a *pigeon* popped on my head, it made me feel so angry. Anyway, when the bus came I saw many *pigeons* were eating *litter* , I was staring that until I realized I had missed the bus. Finally, I had to take a taxi to go to the *skycraper* where my work is." Maybe it could take more than 5 minutes, less than 10, but I read in a neuroscience magazine when creating short stories is one of the best ways to memorize or learn because our brain make a relationship between *thing* and *thing* in this case: the new words which we are learning. I hope it helps people. It's only a short story, it shouldn't be real.

Yes, it is good, but when you are a beginner do it can be pretty hard and confusing, maybe it should be started when you are at a high level. don't you?

You're right... Actually, that is how babies learn their native language... Just by images and context. But remember that this is not a native language for you and in the worst of cases, you are not surrounded by natives of that second language as you were as a child. So, sometimes it is better to clear up your doubts by checking in your own language.

Hi Lucy. First of all, I'd like to thank you for all the amazing and extremely useful videos you've been mading: I wouldn't be studying for very high-level stuff if it hadn't been for you. That said, I do share your method, but I do it more 'aggressively'. I open my dictionary, dunno, for instance letter K and look it up for interesting words. Consequently, on Microsoft Word, I create my own K words vocabulary. Day by day, I do follow this method for every letter. It goes without saying that it takes time and lots of efforts are required, since then you find yourself in trouble as you have to study tons of words. I did sort of similar research for idioms and p verbs as well. I have to state my aims: I'm going to be attending Business and Management course at university in Turin - Italy - in a very few weeks - all taught in English - and hopefully will be doing Cae Exam by the end of the year. I truly believe that looking for words and extra things, despite not being strictly related to fluency, they help you out since if you want to say sth and you don't remember the right word, you should be opened to more options. Should I have made any mistakes, forgive me...i'm typing being lay down on the couch :D Studying English is an unmitigated pleasure!!!

Oh, my Gosh! I can't believe :D I did the same with English. When i was studying it in high school, i told to myself that i should be able to name every piece of item around me (and when i see it) in order to say that i speak English somehow:D so i started almost the same practice. Every day after school i sat down and started writing about how the day was, very detailed, from the moment i left home till the moment i got back home. this way to memorize vocabulary is a little similar to mines. sometimes when I walk on the way, and I feel the weather is so good, then I will make a sentence to describe it, and when i see something I dont know what it calls, I'll check it and repeat it in my mind

best way to learn vocabulary is playing RPG games, long stories and if you want to know them , you're forced to learn A LOT of new words, and you do it while playing .. so you don't get bored, and you'll meet these words plenty of time so you can remeber them..

As a native English speaker, I played RPGs as a kid and it was a huge boon to my vocabulary. A lot of it is not necessarily every day use kind of vocabulary, but it can give you a lot of interesting options! :) Stuff written by Gary Gygax is particularly good for this purpose, as he wrote in a very interesting and unconventional style.

It's a very good method Lucy . The point is to think in another language, and another method is to visualize in your mind objects and situations and establish a mental link with the corresponding word in the language you are learning. This should be a conscious process.

JUST writing words down like that isn't so useful because you ve no idea how to use them and if you dn't know how to use a word in real situation then its inevitable you gonna forget that word blatanly after few days ,so from my point of view learning words in context is the best way to learn vacablary !!

Okay, I really love your videos but I noticed somethings which I would love to tell you. One: you pronounce pronunciation wrongly, it's pronunciation and not pronounciation. Two: I watched a video you made of top ten things we don't pronounce right and the word was Colonel. The actual British pronunciation is Colonel while the American pronunciation is conel or whatever you pronounced.😁😁 Ps: This is just a friendly correction not a hater's (single possession) 😁😁🙂🙂 Your videos are amazing and I recommend you to my friends. I learn German and I like to 1. translate unknown words in my Phone 2. make skreenschot in my phone with this words 3. then record unknown words and then listen it throughout the day.. but I'm not sure if this method works in English because I don't know how exactly are pronounced unknown words in English
