I am a 13 year old artist, I've been drawing for 4 years, and I'm aiming to be a pro! As of now, I only have a phone, a pencil, and paper, but as I get older, I will get better! I've been trying to teach myself, I've never had an art teacher, so I resort to looking online and checking out references! Ive learned a lot so far and my art has definitely gotten better! I wish all of you beginner artists luck because the journey is long and it takes a lot of practice!

I just started learning how to draw / make art, I'm loving your content on how easy and focused each videos are! It's a great balance between learning what's most important and then being able to purposefully practice those key concepts. Even as a hobby, at 24, it felt very intimidating not knowing where to start, and also to not get discouraged even if it's just for myself. Slowly starting to learn the fundamentals, and I'm getting more confident every time I practice :)

What did you start off doing? I have 0 experience and don’t know where to begin lol. But I have the type of art I want to draw.
@ej7654321 Жыл бұрын
@@esco7500 I started off with Marc's videos on how to draw the basics like head shape, hands, and feet. After I managed to get the hang of it and do it somewhat properly, I went into learning the construction of the body (2D shapes version). Once I did those 3, I tried out combining all of those to draw a basic pose (literally just a figure standing), not too focused on the details as for me the face is incredibly difficult 😅 Right now I'm learning construction with more dynamic poses and uses the 3D shapes with cylinders to get more of an understanding on how to pose. Also, I try to draw from reference on whatever I'm watching on youtube if I have downtime. Hope this helps you add some structure! I was definitely overwhelmed at first lol but I know what I'm leaning towards drawing as well so what I'm learning is focused towards that, but the fundamentals for me are more important.

I started a portrait painting class yesterday... it was crazy. I was learning all sorts of new stuff just from watching my teacher draw examples with a charcoal. Well, not really learning, more like making connections with the things I had already known. I was one of the most experienced artists there, and by watching him do things with the same and greater knowledge that I have in ways I hadn't seen before was a real eye opener. My charcoal portraits became significantly better in a matter of minutes.

@AndreLuis-gw5ox2 жыл бұрын
You should focus more of your time on the actual practice of drawing. Memorizing a tutorial is meaningless compared to the person that drew 1k heads and actually learned and understood something about their drawing
@KingFluffs2 жыл бұрын
@@AndreLuis-gw5ox I'm not memorizing it. I'm learning the information and then explaining it back to myself so that I know I fully understand it before I do the mileage of practicing sheets of it. For me it helps me feel confident enough to try the heavy practice, because in my mind I kindof understand it better.
@AndreLuis-gw5ox2 жыл бұрын
@@KingFluffs hah, if you think the best way to learn how to draw is not drawing, then you are doomed. Good luck when you finally start to out on the milleage when you have full understand of the subjects that you study, which will never happen by the way. Because if you think you should be "ready" before you actually start drawing, you will probably never feel ready. Read, draw, critique, repeat. Thats how you learn this thing.
@KingFluffs2 жыл бұрын
@@AndreLuis-gw5ox That's not what I said. I said I find doing some theory, and then practicing once I've a grasp on it to work better for me. If you learn differently, that's all well and fine, I'm just saying what I feel helps me learn easier.

OMGGGGG this video just fell from the skyess!!! Thank you so muchhhh you have no idea how much I've been needing something as simple as a structure, a system to keep me consistent! I think this is what I struggle with the most, since I have college and other projects and stuff, and I dunno why but somehow I always end up relegating drawing practice to the end, basically never actually doing it. Actually I am really consistent with the other stuff, but not with drawing. I believe it is because drawing has so many sub-skills and fundamentals that I don't know where to start. And when I do, I don´t know which excercises to do, or I repeat the same set of excercises way too much and get bored. Well, I said it already, that lack of a structure, a plan or clear roadmap is what makes it so difficult for me to just sit down 2 hours a day and draw. I feel really disoriented. Some months ago I got some weeks consistently drawing, and I don't remember why, but at some point I stopped doing it, and it´s so frustrating because I do have projects that involve drawing. I do want to improve, and I do enjoy drawing, but it´s really hard to keep accountable. So really Marc, thank you so much, I´ll try it and give it my best! *Consistency is KEY!!*

I want to learn animation, I’m 14 and have a good grasp on perspective and anatomy. I understand fine art techniques, but I’m so far from where I’m aiming for at the moment, and I know it’ll be hard work. These videos and the hundreds of others I watch and study from are so useful but I’m probably going to break the philosophy of this channel and go to university. The social aspects, learning how to further refine what I know and “mostly” living cheap on a campus for a year is a nice idea. But this stuff is so useful that I and many others probably don’t NEED to go to uni, but I still just like the experience of uni, and the joy I get when I fail at an artwork and then recover the week after. This is such a lovely passion to have and (although I hardly interact with it) a lovely community

Definitely something to add to this as you progress is always be proud of what you accomplished but don't be satisfied with where you at. Be ambitious but also don't disappointed in your skills or yourself. Most of all it's going to be a very messy, chaotic journey, and you'll likely want to drop out of doing art but the important part is that you keep pushing through the chaos no matter what. Take a break if you need to then comeback, don't be worried about regressing because you'll still progress further if you keep pushing.
