We will! We're grateful to all our viewers and subscribers for helping us go so far! For the past 3 years, our team, including Joyce, have been creating hundreds of Chinese video lessons on KZbin to help Chinese learners across world learn real Mandarin Chinese with ease. Actually, Joyce has been preparing the online Chinese course recently, which is one of our projects. Please have a look by visiting our online school here: www.everydaychinese.com Our team also need to survive and now we need to pay for 5 full-time academic supervisors/designers and other 5 team members like video editors, developers and English translators. We also plan to develop a Chinese learning app in the future. Creating Chinese learning content and lessons is really a huge project and a time consuming process. Hope all of you can understand us! Thanks!

9:39 is the best advice. I make up stories or associate popular trends with characters while I'm learning them, even if the story is silly or inaccurate. For example, for Einstein's name, 爱因斯坦, I just remember this story: Einstein loved to learn (爱) in a big (think of 大) room by himself sometimes (因). Every week (think of 星期 ) he could hear (think of 听) his thoughts in that room (斯), and he rose with the sun (think of 日) every day to continue his studies (坦).

If you put it into perspective, it's not that many actually. You can most likely easily say 1000 words in your mother tongue, and realize there are probably more that you use every day. Yes it seems more difficult because of the different writing system, but in my opinion as we start looking at it as not something as difficult, it will become easier to learn and remember.

I teach Chinese language in a creative and funny way. Learning a completely different language is funnier and more thought-provoking. Learning Chinese can contribute to finding a good job. (China is the largest trading partner of more than120 countries.) Chinese characters still retain their pictographic origins. Knowing what the characters look like originally can help understand the meanings and remember them vividly. I’ve spent about 100,000 hours studying English humor and Western culture, and many years studying Chinese culture and jokes. My native language is Chinese.

Very good advice. When I first started learning Chinese, my friends advised me to learn Hanzi as well. But I was stubborn, I only wanted to converse in Chinese so I thought Hanzi was not important and too difficult. It was a huge mistake. After 1 year of learning, I still could not read anything other than 我 and 你。But part of the fun is reading and Chinese text is not written in Pinyin. Many words have the same Pinyin but different Hanzi behind them so as you learn more words, it becomes very confusing if you don't know the Hanzi behind the word. After l started learning to read Hanzi, I realized my learning progress started to improve faster in fact. Now, at least now read some simple short stories or articles which is very satisfying to me. Although I can type Hanzi on computers or smartphones in Pinyin, I still cannot write by hand. But I think this is good enough for me.
@atrujillo9
@atrujillo9 3 жыл бұрын
I think so. I think a good best practice is everytime you learn new words or phrases to learn the characters that go along with it. The great thing about keyboards is they have the pinyin to character function so you still have to be able to recognize the characters but you don't have to memorize the stroke order. Best of luck to you.

I would say that one should learn to recognize and type the characters, but it is not neccessary to learn to write them. I see a lot of videos where people have pretty notebooks filled with characters, and if that is something you would find fun or interesting to do, sure, go ahead, but in this digital age, typing is the skill that you actually need. no need to worry about the stroke order and such. Install a chinese keyboard which lets you input pinyin and offers you characters. of course, when you are learning words you still need to learn the hanzi too, not only the pinyin, in order to be able to read texts and choose the correct characters when typing.

I teach Chinese Characters to Arabs. I think Chinese language teachers should emphasize learning all Chinese Radicals for complete beginners. A learner should start slowly learning the meaning of each radical, learn its pronunciation and how it's written. A learner should learn all the 214 radicals with their strokes. When reaching radicals with 8 strokes, students then can then start learning words; combined radicals that form words, verbs, adjectives, nouns... etc.

My professor said I was pretty unique in our class because all the other students would rely heavily on Pinyin and have no idea what to do if the test was in 汉字,but I was the complete opposite. The characters always made so much more sense to me! How would people know what "jiao" they are talking about when if reading the character makes it so obvious?! ... Then again, my biggest issue now is listening comprehension, so I guess that didn't help in the long run! 😅

One very important moment: almost all of the characters you see in your textbooks and manuals ARE ABSENT IN THE TEXTS/BILLBOARDS/SLOGANS/FORMS/BOOKS you deal with in China. So basically you are still illiterate after chewing all these textbooks and simple characters. Yes, a character for "to rest" is more or less guessable. The teachers never say that the guessable characters comprise just a tiny percentage, not even 20-30 % of characters ( that would have been of help). Try guessing something more important, e.g. " to remember" let alone something like GDP or MRI. So, the conclusion - you have to memorize almost all of them, desirably in the context.

Good luck to those who think they can cheat their way thru chinese and stay illiterate. Dissociating the thorough in depth knowledge of radicals & characters is like wanting to pilot an Airbus 380 knowing only how to fasten your passenger seat belt.

It's funny how upset new learners get. But remember, you're learning the language at the same time. People born in China, or who speak Chinese as a second language, have the advantage of already knowing the words and sounds. And Chinese school kids have years of practice. Most learners get upset when they can't remember all the Hanzi in a few months or even a year. I aim for 10 a day and I've stopped focusing on writing, and more on typing.
