Tip(s) : weaponize time. Time is both your ally and enemy here. When you asks for advices on how to improve u can hear sometime the deadly advice of “just draw” out of context it does not help you but what people usually mean by this is produce. By producing you can try and copy art style, techniques, workflow etc etc. 1 fundamentals : what are those ? Mainly how perspective (1,2,3, point(s)) works, that life is just cube or different forms of cubes or cut cubes that are molded into different shapes. How to position those forms in different angles. 2 focus your attacks :you might get overwhelmed very quickly by how much you need to learn to “get gud” so if you would like to make portraits train in the face and upper body first, if you would like to draw landscape learn how to create a dynamic landscape with perspective ,if you would like to make a comic/ manga learn how to position your characters, how to mount correctly your page even if the task at hand seems daunting 3 TAKE YOUR TIME : I cannot stress this enough progress at your own pace. We all are made differently, one may improve in days , others in a week, months or years know that even Satoru Gojo the Strongest trained to become the strongest nobody starts with like boundless skill when he begins know that even Picasso learned to get gud you’ll even see that in his early career he did normal things 4 REFERENCES : I also cannot stress this enough you need that to improve. Our monkey brain built on millions of years of bioengineering works by learning by seeing and doing. That is why our friend Kooi recommended to copy to use references to improve our mental library. You cannot build a building from things you don’t know how to do. Know that studies works like an hyperbolic time chamber. 5 have something that drives you : for me it’s just pure SPITE ( it allows me to grind for 2-5 hours ) Having something that drives you is essential in this. Psychologically you cannot keep on a difficult task if you have noting to motivate you. If the soldiers fighting in the trenches had no will no drive to hold for France know that the triple entente would have lost WW1. 6 it’s okay to take breaks: I’m in art school now and even now i can be fed up of drawing and do other things for a while. You have the opportunity to take breaks to relax even I take breaks from time to time. Know that the grind never ends and I wish luck to all that chose this journey on this weird year that’ll be 2025

If someone asks me if you can learn to draw in half a year, I'll answer that it depends. Mainly on how quickly someone can use the knowledge they've acquired. It took me about +- 2 weeks to learn how to draw heads, but it wasn't until 2 months later that they started to resemble the ones in the references xd I started and I'm still at the stage of drawing using paper and pencil (digital is terra incognita for me, at least for now xd). One problem at a time. Digital makes it easier because you can easily compare the result of your work with the original and you won't get lost in the growing number of lines. However, I have a very useful piece of advice regardless of the learning method you choose, which is to show your drawings to others, preferably to someone who has more experience in it than you (in my case, it's my friend whose drawings inspired me to draw and at the same time became my mentor). Why? To quote Vesemir from Witcher 3: "Don't train alone, because you'll only reinforce your mistakes" and there are a lot of mistakes at the beginning, some obvious, but there are some where someone has to show you, because as you know, your own mistakes are the hardest to spot. How long does it take to learn to draw? I would say the average is +- 3-4 years depending on what you draw on (paper or digital) and what you want to draw, and there are a few options: realistic, semi-realistic, or anime/cartoon, the latter are easier because you can bend the rules a bit. So there's no point in comparing time, because drawing is not a race, unless it's with yourself from before.

Shade 3 big balls and stack them onto each other. With two very tiny balls on the first ball and put a small narrow cone in the middle of the first ball below the middle of the two tiny balls . Long cylinders extruding on the sides of the second ball. Then add short cylinders attached to the first 2 long cylinders pointing slightly up. Now you have a snowman

4:57 My verdict about references is that it's always better to use references when you find the right one. I dont think it's about "not heavily copying the reference", but about executing the original idea you had in your head. The emotions you want to express may or may not be exactly like the references, which is why it's important for artists to learn the fundamentals, such as perspective and structure, so that they can manipulate it until it looks the way they want it. Sometimes, you have this great idea but just cant find the reference for it. That's the creative challenge we have as an artist, to then execute that idea solely from our visual library, from our imagination. But apart from that scenario, it is always better to use references, and better yet: learning and implementing 3d software to create your own references

Your video could not have come at a more correct timing, I started a few months ago with mainly shapes and while boring I knew it was needed and after that transitioned to drawing anime characters, I felt a bit guilty using tracing for practice to get a better understanding and muscle memory for proportions and lines but you made some pretty good points, and this helped me analyze my old art and what it lacked, while tracing is good for practice I really want to do my own original characters in the future. I started drawing mainly eyes then transitioned to the face and realized I suck at drawing bodies and insecurities made me bloat the face into the paper leaving little detail for the rest of the body and now im working on that as well. Thanks for the video it helped a lot! I`m also finding time to draw every day and when I feel burned out I take a break until my creativity kicks in again.

I drew once everyday and managed to do 2 days, but thats just it. I can see the potential in learning to do illusttractions, heck, I already see the epicness of it from others. I Just Could Not Form The Habit! Realisticly, I aint gonna learn if I cant move up from Stage 0: Drawing. Lots of love, thumbnail is fire!
@kooikoyume16 күн бұрын
Yoo thank you Globex! I might need to think a bit for a better answer- might make a video for this. But for now I say if you want to go spartan mode, try to force yourself to draw everyday for ~2-3 weeks straight. That's around the time it takes for humans to form a habit, and also you'll probably see improvements by then which should motivate you. Goodluck!

And one more important thing... “Comparison is the thief of joy” dont compare your progress to anyone but yourself. People learn at different speeds and its normal if you arent as good as or learn as fast as person X.

True! Tbh you can use comparison as a weapon to sharpen your skill, but it can also backfire and demotivate you instead - compare carefully

@@kooikoyume Yes in some things but in progress never because everyone learns at different speeds You for example are one of those guys who learn fast. Like the progress you made in one month was inhumanly good and you are clearly naturally very talented. Not that its a bad thing but many might look at your progress and think whats the point this guy got better than me in a month. Humans are good at being jealous when others success.

I'm at day 322/365 myself and this was a nice watch. It's funny that you suggest neglecting your fundamentals and "drawing boxes for a month" because that's what I did lol. I'm not a new artist, but I have quit and come back many times because I'd find these huge holes in my skills that I couldn't deal with, which were caused by missing fundamentals. This time tho, I forced myself to forget everything and start completely from scratch and build up brick by brick so I could fill the gaping holes before I fell in them later on. I live by my fundamentals because they ensure that I won't lose my mind later on because I neglected something huge. That being said, I do think you need a special type of insanity to draw lines and basic shapes for a month straight lmao

I've started only doing circles because I want to improve the way I use my whole arm. I do not know if this is a good idea, but I feel that is important because if I do not improbe my mechanical part it is gonna be difficult to improve. However, I am trying to draw something besides of that despite of the result, I've started drawing things of videogames. I would like tips, how can I notice that i am improving or if should I change something about my method
@kooikoyume17 күн бұрын
1. If you have objectives (tip #1 in the video) - the easiest way to assess whether you've improved or not is to see if your drawing has gotten closer to the art you've admired 2. Repeating tip #6 in the video - I think it's best if you train your fundamentals ALONG with drawing what you ENJOY. Don't focus too much on the "mechanical part" - as you will improve it as you keep drawing and get used to your tools

Oh thank God some1 mentioned the hours. I saw title and actually considered being THAT guy that says "so 10 seconds a month for 6 months? Got it" but thankfully I actually watch at least some of the video. 750 hours over 6 months is roughly 2h 30min a day now that's a good time frame. It's honestly what the whole PewDiePie issue came from, not to touch too much on it but stupid people and trolls will both ignore the obvious time investment if you don't straight up tell them. Dates are not Time. Love the video, step 1 had me a bit iffy because trying to adopt other artist techniques it's very hard to compare ur art to theirs instead of focusing on learning the technique. So many times do I follow tutorials and my finished product looks like trash compared but it's only after I've had my rant that I accept I just don't have the same experience. I should know better but it's easier said than done.

Do you have a discord server for other people who are just trying to learn to draw for the first time so that we could have some form of community together to share and gain feedback from

I do have a Discord (link in desc) - it's more of a free community rn and I don't have programs, but you can share your art and ask for feedback there if you'd like!
