About the missing podium Isn't it more that, well, it's a fashion show, there is runway, a walk way that is typically elevated from the crowd, but here, it is missing, where conceptually it should be. Instead, There is just a runway, a road lined with arrows for direction. Just a simple way for movement or transportation. A runway... Think about it~ Isn' it funny? I’ve literally sat here in recovery from surgery and this video has helped me sooooo much. I feel inspired to create once I feel better. I do have a question concerning the reproduction of the early collections especially with the use of thrifted garments were they all 1of1s especially if there’s use of cheap items like plastic or black ribbon the hodge podge of clothing were these pieces bought as is? I do respect John galliano’s Margiela because the idea of draping fabric to look dipped in water was pulled from these earlier collections

The more learn about Margiela, the more the work feels like "the Marcel Duchamp of the fashion world". Elevating something by shifting the context it is seen in. Not going to lie, as a costume designer myself, the collection where he just bought costumes and barely changed them and put them on his own runway hurt my soul a bit. I wonder if he credits the designers that made those costumes, or any of the vintage stuff he recycled. (aside from the replica collection) Like Marcel Duchamp, I can understand why this approach might have been groundbreaking back when he made them because it was contrary to the fashion of the time, but as an audience member I'm still hyper aware that the "Fountain" is a urinal. That someone else engineered. I think where Margiela really shines is as a stylist, and show producer. Anyway, amazing job covering all the shows, I love your channel.

I think you would be interested to know a bit more about grosgrain, particularly silk grosgrain. It is widely used as the lapel lining on a tuxedo, as well as matching grosgrain bowtie and cummerbund. Silk grosgrain has a wide use as the fine delicate detail on the most formal of garments. I think this totally makes sense, considering how he used it in this piece!

I just want to say that I think this is phenomenal - it should be compulsory watching for any fashion student. You speak about fashion with such a passion, the way you show yourself getting choked up, the details, it's just so beautiful. It's clear that you genuinely care about making fashion accessible, because not only do you talk about Margiela doing so in their early shows on playgrounds and cafes, but you enact it in your videos by teaching anyone whose interested, what you know. There's so much gatekeeping, and I think you should be so proud of what you've done and do. I'm taking over a fashion studio this year, now that my Dad, Craig Morrison, has been diagnosed with cancer, and I felt such a sense of imposter syndrome, but delving into your videos has reminded me of why I care about fashion - it's because when it's good, it brings people together. Thank you for this - I'd love to talk to you more if you're interested but if not, I'll keep watching you and admiring your mind and ability to share what's in it.

I'm a costume designer with a degree. Opinions presented with a fanboy attitude are not suitable for higher education. Don't understand me wrongly, it's a cool series, but it's a mix of repeating what was already told in books with some private opinions and conclusions. Furthermore, he discusses MMM like it was existing in a vacuum without any other experimental brands, which creates bad, or rather, lack of educational context. And the worst thing - he absolutely knows nothing about female garments. And I don't blame him, he is a dude in T-shirt.
