I have been doing this for a while now and the only thing you missed is to slow the video down to .75 playback speed. It slows it down enough to hear each word pronounced separately within the sentences. I have a friend who came to the United States in the 90’s from former Czechoslovakia and she learned English watching Seinfeld. I decided to learn Italian the same way. Once I slowed it down just a bit I started to learn very quickly.

Actually English subtitles were super useful for me when I was learning English. Whenever I came across a word i didn't know, I'd stop the movie, and put the word into the app i use for practicing vocab. It also works awesome with German subtitles while studying German.

Thank you for a really informative video, it was very helpful. The only problem I have with watching films in my target language, is finding films that have my interests, cos if I find it boring, I'm not likely to finish watching it. Language learning has to be fun.

+Vrai • Advice, watch cartoons like SpongeBob, they are so happy and have a lot of action going on that you can't get bored. Having a lot of movement is king when learning something new.

8:38 I fucking knew it, subtitles can also work when you use them right!! A girl told me that the dubbing was the only way and that subtitles suck. I wondered why, because understanding the scene is the goal. I guess she was lazy to read in english, before watching the scene again in the foreign language. This guy knows what he's talking about!!

In some languages you can watch only cartoons dubbed... like that is my target language... but what I love the most over it is the fact that almost every original show in that language has the subtitles..

@ouino4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Yes, we just released a small update about a month ago with some changes to the interface. This winter we will have a much bigger update with a lot of new features that will make learning with us even more effective and the program will be even more comprehensive. :) All upgrades are free to all our current users. I hope this helps!

But where can you find shows for relatively small languages, like Norwegian or even Russian? Even for German, I've heard a teacher say that they had to import most movies from Germany. I live in America, and I can't even watch Cartoon Network shows in SPANISH.

Thank you for your comment. It does get a bit harder to find material for smaller languages. But if you follow the tips in this video, you will be able to find material in both Russian and Norwegian. And German material is abundant even if you live in the US. Netflix alone has hundreds of titles for German. I hope this helps!

There’s alot of norweigan shows and movie on Netflix. But I strongly recommend you to watch Skam. It’s worldwide popular norweigan show about teens, you will not be dissapointed and you will also learn how highschool in Norway and mostly scandinavia is. I’m from Sweden and watch without subtitles because we can understand eachother in scandinavia but there are alot of subtitles if you search on it.

I don’t trust Netflix subtitles they don’t match up with the words that the actors are saying, they are similar but they are not the same.

+XxNorlukxX - Your brain doesn't need accurate translation, it self corrects over time. "I am so tired, goodbye everyone" to this "Mary Anne, i can't wait to go to bed early today, see you later". You just need to know the story, that is the only thing that matters. The story is king, translation can suck it.

When you showed Disney Plus, I noticed that it had a Japanese dub, but no Japanese subtitles, even though the other dubbed languages have subtitles. Any idea why? Are they just too lazy to make Japanese subtitles?
@ouino4 жыл бұрын
Like we mentioned in the video, Disney Plus is a bit all over the place with their languages. I don't know why the platform is this way. It is relatively new and it is getting better over time. They have a lot more languages and subtitles than when they started.
