Tysm! I've been an actress for a while but during the pandemic I've sort of lost by strategies. We're doing an off book run through today so this was very helpful!

Yes it was definitely a tough time, but hopefully you were able to stay in there. All the best with the run!

thank you andrew for these wonderful tips. I also say out my lines while in push up sets or when i am exerting so that i don't get time to think about my lines. Like i would focus on exercise count while saying the lines. It challenges my focus but once you do it its like learning backwards.

Do you have any tips for cold readings on auditions?
@StageMilk4 жыл бұрын
Cold reading is tough. I personally practice cold reading daily. It is a skill like anything else that you can practice.

How about building the muscles by learning a new piece every day - a sonnet is a good one. Or the first beat or three of a speech, or a dozen lines of dialogue. You're building good habits and practicing an essential skill and getting better at it.

@@StageMilk Thats a really good idea - I know when I have been in a long running tv series the lines go in almost instantly...it's as if your mind KNOWS how to absorb them easily. And Andrews tips about getting physical are spot on x Nick

Great advice 😊 I usually learn my lines by rote or with silly voices or in a different accent. It works well for me. I also use the Dialogmaster Pro rehearsal app, which has been really helpful with memorising and rehearsing lines. Just as you mentioned building on 1 line at a time, the app lets you focus on small sections of a scene by only selecting the lines you are working on, and then you can include subsequent lines as you go. It will repeat playback as much as you like too. And once you’ve memorised your lines, it will say the other characters’ lines in the conversation so you have your cues, but it will stay silent when it’s time to say your lines. And it has options to extend or reduce the silent period for your lines, if you need to adjust it. I just play it in my car to and from work, or on my way to acting class, or an audition or performance. That way, my mind is occupied with driving but it’s like I’m talking to a passenger, and the lines are fresh in my mind when I arrive. Very handy. Thanks for sharing your videos 😊

I use the same app. It’s very helpful when rehearsing on my own.
