In my case, I learned many of them by context while listening to local people or watching movies. I used to forget them easily by memorising them but now I have no problem. When someone says : "Please take off your shoes". It's understood its meaning : "please remove your shoes."

Hi Leila. Thank for a great lesson. We know that you're the master of grammar, but how we can easily identify which phrasal verbs are transitive and which are intransitive? 😘
@LoveEnglishUK5 жыл бұрын
Dictionaries should tell you. Get a good dictionary app. Otherwise a native speak will be able to tell you what sounds right...make a point of writing down examples you hear of phrasal verbs. 👍

Excuse me Maam, Why we can't use PV in formal writing? In essay writing, for example topic is ills in higher education and someone write a sentence " Education explicitly plays a vital role in nation building but in the contemporary era, its challenging to break down all the factors/elements that put a stigma on the quality of college education and performances of authorities that have to deal with such circumstances. Although not exercising reforms and pursuing with the on going temptations might cut both ways " so whats the error in it? If I say its my personal writing 3 or 4 PVs I used here
@LoveEnglishUK5 жыл бұрын
Great comment, there are a few exceptions like ‘carry out research’ but generally academic writing avoids phrasal verbs and in formal letter writing. Your example sentence is acceptable, also because the vocabulary you use is excellent and more ‘academic’ in tone. However, it would be much better if you replace ‘but’ with ‘however’ ‘it’s’ with ‘it I’d’ ‘Break down’ with ’analyse’ , ‘put’ with ‘place’ , ‘that have to’ with ‘who are required’ Your writing is excellent but it is those small changes that make a big difference in tone and register. I hope that answers your question ☺️💕👍🇬🇧

I always feel like i'm coming home when I'm in the UK. But I got home sick for New York City after a year. Would love sail back like Greta Toonborough.
