My Grandmother spoke Polish fluently. She died when my dad was young, and he is sad sometimes that nobody else in his family speaks Polish. He really wants me to learn, and he is trying everything to help me learn it. I’m using Duolingo, Babbel, and of course you :)

It is very sad that so many Americans and maybe British? wanted so much to assimilate that they dropped their native language and did not teach their children. I hear that bilingual children start speaking later but they still can speak two languages once they start... will I learn better at 63 than I did at 26?

You are so right. When my children were about 4 and 5 we dedicated one night a week to each language. I would pick them up from school and they could speak English in the car until we got home in order to tell me anything important and then once we were home, Tuesday’s we only spoke in Mandarin (Chinese) until bed time and Thursday’s only sign language. They also learnt Japanese at school. Now as adults they are fluent in English, Mandarin, Japanese and in sign language. They are like me and obviously you too, we are confident in language and love to learn more languages. Also I think you gain confidence with new languages when you are already familiar with speaking outside of your native tongue because many learners are shy to make sounds that are not familiar to them.

I just love the courage you're trying to instill. I recall a day I got a job at a restaurant and the chef I was working with said he'll not work with me because I just asking too much questions and there was an issue of language barrier. I was send off home. In fact I was very low because I loved cooking and I just lost the job because I didn't understand polish. Ewelina you just ignited a spirit in me to have more and more interest in learning Polish. Much❤️❤️

I work on solar fields with a lot of Hispanics - Mexicans, Hondurans, Cubans, Peruvians . . . I use Google Translate Conversation mode a LOT with whoever I'm speaking with. We both hear & read the languages in real time, it helps us both learn the other language because we can both hear and see it in real time. My Spanish is improving drastically

You have no idea how much this is pushing me right now! Firstly imma meditate to get rid of all the discouragement cause actually i got to pad myself the shoulder as i already speak with myself and desperately looks for people to talk polish to ! I am motivated to start a kind of series where i do something on cam, hosting this in polish to get this practice time without an sctual speaking buddy😂 but what i needed to hear the most are your świetnie words about believing in myself and not getting overwhelmed too quickly. Now i am thinking too Die Dosis machts! You will hear from me again, do widzenia ❤

Bonjour Ewelina, I just bought for the second time (as I could not locate when I did the first time) your course Basic Polish Phrases and have seen your videos for a while and it inspires me to do Polish! It is the third time I am coming back to Polish and am so gonna stick to it as I adore its phonetics, Polish lore stories and more! English is not enough now, for sure...As Iam a beginner in learning Polish, I shall translate online, to the best I can, for respect towards you: Mówię po francusku (takie jestem), ponownie poprawiam mój latynoamerykański hiszpański (meksykański, ponieważ mieszkałem 12 lat w Południowej Kalifornii i Kostarykanie, gdy mieszkałem 1 rok na Long Island NY w kostarykańskiej diasporze NY). Język to sposób myślenia i rozwiązywania problemów w określony sposób w taki sam sposób, jak wyjaśnianie specjalności niektórych krajów w oparciu o popularną mądrość: stąd dlaczego w 2100 będzie nadal liczył do 3000 języków i dziesiątki języków międzynarodowych (jak podkreślono naukowo w 2020 r.). Praca. A plus! tinyurl.com/mentorholistique1

I don't find Polish that difficult since I started learning it. Maybe because it's kinda similar to Romanian in structure. What I do find difficult is remembering all the long words.. and there are a lot in Polish. I wish I can learn it faster.. but a language like this takes a lot of time to learn :( Thank you for the inspiring words!

Hi, this was your first video I watched, and what you said is true 😉. I am Hungarian. I was living in the Netherlands (I didn't learn dutch but I want to learn that to) for six years, and going to an international school. There were students all around the world, and I saw a (possibly polish) girl and I've fall in love (kid love). It was about 10 years ago. Two years ago we where talking about her with a friend who was a teacher there in that years, and she said, "that polish girl". So possibly that girl was polish. And we figured out that this had more than one possibilities to. So I want to learn now polish language, and I will watch your videos to. Anyways on my last day in that international school, that girl gived me a present to and write it on "that she hope we will see each other again" 😊. (That girl was very nice. She had light blond hair and shiny blue eyes. She was also tomboyish, sportish and skateboarding. 😍) Anyways this story isn't the only reason why I want to learn polish language, it is also because I like the language. And I also want to go to Poland because it looks amazing. And I will also travel with the polish airlines LOT (I'm fan of planes and I want to travel with more airlines...) of course. To say something else, almost everyone says that "it is one of the most difficult languages in the world", but my "religion" is a little bit different... It isn't the easiest language, but I like it, and learn it. Anyways, my main language is Hungarian and that is a difficult language. Hungarian language also doesn't have any other language what is enough close to it... Polish language has more than one, like Slovakian, Czech...

For learning Polish I am using Babbel, Busuu, Drops, HelloTalk, KZbin channels, and I have some books that I got in Poland for learning Polish e.g. Polish in pictures, Polski bez problemu A1-C1, etc. I also have once a week Polish lessons with a teacher as a high school class but that is from September to April. I also take notes from what I learn as well. After this virus stuff is over and when it is safe to travel, I plan to go to Poland which might be next summer, who knows. I'm not sure what my Polish will be like come next summer and what I will be able to say but I hope that I can have simple conversations with my relatives in Poland without having to use google translate to communicate from Polish-English/English-Polish.

Thanks Ewelina for your tips and suggestions! The way how I learn Polish is to speak as much as I can with natives though I must admit there are occasions when it's hard for me to follow a conversation. In such cases I usually ask to repeat and if I still don't get it I ask to paraphrase using a bit easy words, but this is a rare case. Another way how I boost my Polish vocabulary is Memrise apps which I found efficient and at the same time an affordable tool. Last, but certainly not least I practice with my co-worker where I teach him Russian and he checks my Polish including vocabulary, grammar and of course pronouncation which I think is the most important! Dziękuję serdecznie Pani Ewelina za wszystko. To było bardzo miło jak zwykłe. Nie mogę się doczekać nowego wideo 😊🤗

back in 1985 before the internet, before KZbin, before Google Translate, I tried to learn Polish. I only had books. I had seven. I banged my head against the wall for 10 months. I was obsessed. And I didn't get very far. I ran into cases and then prepositions. So I have only watched like 8 minutes of this video and something I noticed a month ago or so: I did not speak out loud. I always only whispered. I noticed this time I speak out loud. But not to people who speak Polish. I don't actually know any. Just American people who are half polish. They learn from Grandmother: give me a kiss! Wow! They learned it right. I just couldn't spell it. And I have no place to say it :-) It's okay. I need to learn how to say trzy and I want which I can't type here. I don't have the right letter. I have a friend in Germany who sent me a message in a recording on Facebook because if she typed it in English it would keep autocorrecting her. It was easier just to stick it out loud and send the sound file. I understand the problem. I have polish keyboard on my phone but not my tablet. Voice to Text gets scrambled too easily . In 1985 my coworker from Poland said that my American tongue could not pronounce the difference between sz si S with a slash on top. She's right. I can't *hear* the difference either. Most things I can hear I can copy. Many things I can read I can pronounce mostly even if it takes me four tries. You do pronounce very well and slowly and repetitively. And yes I need a notebook. Did you know you can't buy one Notebook on Amazon? You have to buy 5. Or a very very thick one. It's okay. Eventually I will find one. I do have a huge pile of multicolored index cards I bought for some project I now forget... they might be better

Hello, first, thank you for your videos, I’ve looked at the basics so far, very helpful. I am commenting to ask if you are able to do any professional/formal conversations - like talking to an employer on the phone (on that note, maybe informal phone conversations/tips too if it’s different than talking in person) as well as meeting people in a formal/professional environment? If you already have made these lessons, I am happy to watch those videos- I just didn’t catch them breezing through your channel. Thank you for considering!

Listening to the Polish anthem, I actually come to the conclusion that in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, as well as Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, they don't need English. Why? Because we're Slavic brothers and we can understand each other. The old anthem in the former state of Yugoslavia, Hey Slavs (Hey Sloveni), is plagiarism, because it was created from your anthem Marsh Dabrovski. I also heard the old Slovak anthem Hey Slovaks (Hey Slovaci), which is similar to the Polish anthem. A big greeting from Serbia for brotherly Slavic Poland! 🇷🇸❤️PL

I feel old fashioned but....the notebook one is a big deal. Having a separate notebook on top of using an app like Busuu, even just for new words, helps so much more than just revising 10000 times. I use Busuu (1 language premium is $30 /y and native speakers correct some of your speaking exercises) A notebook I follow a lot of Poles on twitter with similar jobs or interest Right now seriously trying to find a textbook or similar for grammar and verb stuff And videos like this because for some stuff it just helps hearing it spoken, in a grouping or order that makes sense (example: telling time in order of numbers....not just scattered and random like many apps do)

My father's side came from the Wongrowitz and West of Bromberg area of Posen, Germany in the 1870's which is now Poland. I am trying to learn some Polish to read documents for my family tree on Ancestry.com. They came from Grylewo, Schokken, Bukowie and Potulice parishes and others near there. The name was Wachowski now Wahowske. I need help with words such as: Born, marriage, died, witness, home & others that may be on a document. I just started watching your videos yesterday.
