How to LED Swap Your 4th Gen 4Runner Climate Control Lights (Reverse Polarity LCD Kit Install)

Fixing burnt out light bulbs and converting them to LEDs in your 4runner's HVAC unit, LCD screen and temperature controls is pretty darn easy! In this video, we got through the step by step process to get your dashboard lit back up with brand new LED's complete with the reverse polarity mod kit.
To replace all the bulbs, we used a kit from T4Rewired. This kit featured bulbs for all the climate control knobs, switches, gear shirt lights, and cup holder lights.

When we switch to 12v power, we use the darker film to illuminate the numbers, opposite to before!

Do you have any advice on replacing the lights that are dimmed when not selected? I have the light for the arrow when one of the settings is selected but the light for the text on the knob is not showing up. Great video brother

Hmm. It’s tough due to the placement of the lights within the knobs. Ideally an LED will be the best bet for output.

I did this to my 09' Matrix but i went with an amber/orange LED. It retains the factory look and it also helps with the hot spots.

If you are willing to solder you can get almost any color for all your lights including dash and doors.

I used the same parts but found that the led bulb wires would break and once in the groves prevented the bulbs from sitting flush and no longer locked into place. The grey based bulbs have small fragile copper sleeves that break rending the bulbs useless.

Yes! You can easy dim them. I actually prefer them over the OEM.

I believe those are due to the tinted plastic/glass on the knobs. I may be wrong though!

Great question! I’ve never tried to dim them. My assumption would be the function the same way as any other bulb.

Just remove that grey trim piece and they should disconnect easy and then new bulbs go in the same as the others

Idk about the toyota, but on my FZ07 that worked. Theyre both LCD and polarizers so i imagine the concept is the same. Just have to replace the glue

All personal preference. It’s actually tamer on the eyes in my opinion.
