This is one of the better breakdowns I've seen on this. I recently had to argue with a producer that seeing the Mercedes Benz Logo on Mercedes Benz stadium (atlanta) was not a problem in our music video. Question: we often turn products around on screen or cover just the logo with tape. Would that actually be worse because we are altering the product? Esspecially with something like Coke since they also own the color red on their cans?

I cannot give specific legal advice on the internet. Just remember, trademarks have to deal with "consumer confusion". If there is no consumer confusion, it is much tougher to actually have a legitimate case. Copyright law deals with "copying" someones copyright protected and violating one of their exclusive rights. Typically nowadays, they need a registered copyright to file a lawsuit. However, there is also the concept of copyright "fair use" a defense to any infringement claims.
