I've been trying to be a minimalist for several years. In this journey I often have complex feelings - sometimes I feel guilty I haven't decluttered enough, but sometimes I feel my space is losing the character which can explain who I am. This video helps me a lot. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas.

You are very welcome! I have to continually remind myself that minimalism isn't a numbers game or a challenge to see who can get by with less.

So glad that you kept Bear Bear...........I have done the same thing with limiting my sentimental items to one box & have curated my photos. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on minimalism.

Welcome! I love hearing how people approach minimalism. It is definitely not one-size fits all.

i cleared everything irrelevant on Jan1 2021. and found some materials which were taking back good memories of childhood. so kept it but one thing I found useful is that have much more SPACE.
@TylerLloyd3 жыл бұрын
Yes! So much more space. Have you found that by having more, cleared physical space that it has opened up your mental space? I notice that and it is one reason why I like minimalism (even though as I type this I am surrounded by a bunch of recording gear I pulled out earlier).

Do not let go of sentimental things. Minimalism as defined by others is not for everyone. Make your own definition, one that suits your purposes. If you have something that touches your heart, then keep it. Surround yourself with things, many or few, that make you feel good
@TylerLloyd3 жыл бұрын
I agree! If you enjoy them, keep them! Minimalism is not a numbers game, which people tend to get caught up with.

Omg Tyler...All I have is sentimental items to declutter. I honestly do not want to hold on to these things but I CAN'T PART WITH THEM. It is a horrible place to be stuck in. These items are reminders of instances I shared with my loved ones who have passed away. Wish I could just get rid of them. The picture method is my go to as well. That really helps. Be tyfs Look forward to viewing more of your videos. I am now a new subbie ! 😊
@TylerLloyd3 жыл бұрын
I know that struggle well! A few things to consider: do you need to have multiple items from the same person and could you declutter to a few items. Also, do you think your loved ones would want you to feel burdened by those items? I appreciate the sub and hopefully continue to make videos you enjoy!

@@TylerLloyd you are so right. My brother had moved out of our childhood house (where I currently reside) and he said if I wanted that stuff I would have taken it with him. However, now that he's gone I am having such a hard time getting rid of even a piece of paper. I truly do not want ALL this stuff but I don't have the strength to rid myself of it. And I do mean each piece of paper. Boy oh boy do I need help...😩
@TylerLloyd3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you just need time. Even decluttering one drawer or corner is a massive accomplishment. Take things slowly and be easy on yourself. I hope you find the help and solution that works best for you! ❤️

I'm trying to downsize A LOT. My dream is to live a minimalist, nomadic lifestyle with my significant other. My biggest problem is overthinking and holding onto so much rubbish and clutter that we don't even have enough space for each other now. I can't let go of my childhood (toys, books, games, artwork etc.) and now it's eating up my life and relationship.

Wishing you the best! I keep downsizing and finding more each time.

I moved a lot as a kid so by the time I finished high school I only ended up keeping a small bin of the most sentimental of stuff. Due to downsizing between moves.

I don't like minimalism, but I also don't like hoarding and clutter. Make space useful for things that are relevant, but IMO minimalism to the extreme is just as problematic in my mind as hoarding. However, if you haven't used something in a few years, you should consider throwing out. Out with the old in with the new.
@TylerLloyd2 жыл бұрын
I somewhat agree. I like minimalism, but not the extremes that tend to be highlighted online. Minimalism shouldn’t defined by the number of possessions you have but whether or not you keep and bring into your life things that add value. For some, that will be a few hundred things and for others that will be thousands. We’re all different, but it comes down to intention and being deliberate.

i've gotten rid of so much and im pretty much ready to let go but have been in a jam about a streetbike i've had for 13 years and has given me a bunch of great rides and fun times and seen so many cool places together and ive had it from a boy to a man and i just love to look at all the time but after not using it for a while it stopped running good and i thought well i love to look at it so i'll keep it and put it in my house as a "cool" decoration haha... but thats not practical, its a little heavy to lug around and i dont like heavy things anymore and if i want to ever move it mite be better to get rid of now while prices for resale are up and i can get some good money for it and put that towards better use..... im just trying to decide if 2 grand is worth it for something i love but dont need or will ever ride ever again but is a gem and a beauty to look at......such a toss up and thank you for this video.... nice advice and you have made things easier for me in a sense i think im going to go forward with selling it. but i did read that comment that said Surround yourself with things, many or few, that make you feel good..... and im like awe man this is a roller coaster of a thinking pattern i got going on here haha
@TylerLloyd2 жыл бұрын
That is a hard choice. If you decide to let it go, is there something like a keychain that was always on the bike, some smaller part that you can replace to keep a piece of the bike, maybe along with a nice print of a picture of you and the bike? Might make letting go easier if you choose to do so.

@@TylerLloyd i got some good pictures of and with it but made sure i let it go to someone who loved it as much as i did and will fix it up nice and paid top dollar for it so it was a tearful moment but i got over it...it was tough but as much as i would of liked to keep it to look at it like a piece of art, it was just too heavy to lug around and it put a huge smile on the guys face.... he was 25, just like i was when i bought it but im 38 now and you know how things change...anyway thank you for the video it helped me out

I have been trying for several years to get rid or some sentimental items but they are things from my 21 yr old's childhood. He has HLHS heart defect, and we have been through 3 heart surgeries with him. I can't get rid of his clothes, his toys, because I'm always thinking something might happen to him. I will want that toy or clothing. What would you do? It's gonna take a big box....
@TylerLloyd2 жыл бұрын
First, I wish you, your son, and family the very best. Other than the tips provided in the video, I’d say that letting go of items from your son’s childhood does not mean you’re letting go of him or those memories. Then for letting of things, I would focus on finding the items that represent key memories. Maybe start a box and only put the most import 10 things. You don’t need to them get rid of everything else, but imagine if you only had those ten. Is that enough? If you feel it isn’t enough, I’d sit with that feeling of “not enough” and ask why. I hope that helps.

How do I get rid of really small sentimental items, like decorations or stuff like that?...
@TylerLloyd3 жыл бұрын
That can be hard. Small items, one by one, take up very little room so it can be easy to justify keeping them. Yet, they can start to add up! With anything, I ask myself, “why am I holding on to this? What purpose does this serve?” Sit with that question. Maybe you end up keeping the item, or maybe you realize that the intended purpose can be achieved with fewer things. Say sentimental items to remember a loved one: do you need 20 different things or will 2 do.
