My LG has a thermistor in the refrigerator section and freezer. Currently the temperature in freezer is fine, but in the fridge section it is getting too warm, staying around 48 degrees. There was a block of ice on the evaporator coils (fridge section). I verified the heat element works, but since there is an evaporator in the fridge and a separate one in the freezer section, which defrost sensor would I change, the one in the fridge or freezer?

Having this same issue. Any notable fix ?
@jeff_9074 Жыл бұрын
@Nomad397 No unfortunately.. I ended up buying a new fridge. I found out that when the block of ice forms on the evaporator, it's a sealed system issue. LG was useless in providing any help (considering the class action lawsuit against them is done with im not surprised). In my case since it was 6yrs old, they said they would give me a new compressor under warranty but no labor is covered. You have to use a third party company and the compressor isn't always the problem, or the only problem. It wasn't cost effective to even go down that road considering reading reviews of people who replaced the compressor multiple times and still had issues. I went with a Samsung Bespoke. It's Amazing how much longer my food last now compared to the LG.. the temp probably wasn't consistent, and intermittent issues before finally complete failure. Maybe you'll have better luck than me, and hopefully you're under a parts and labor warranty.

I have been able to find the defrost sensor like in the video for the freezer section but not for the refrigerator section. Purchased in 2017 I have the LFXS30796D which was not included in the class action. Freezer section rarely has an issue staying cold. I guess lesson learned never buy an LG refrigerator again.
@jeff_9074 Жыл бұрын
@Nomad397 mine was the same way. The freezer section would still keep things frozen, but the fridge section would intermittently get warm out of nowhere. Sometimes, unplugging the fridge for a few minutes would work.. what I was told happens is, as the compressor breaks down, the debry can form a clog in the three-way valve or filter dryer.. also, I was told sloppy assembly of the sealed system at the factory resulted in Flux splattering on the evaporator, which resulted in very tiny holes over time, causing slow leaks of freon. The usual fix is to replace the entire sealed system (evaporator, filter dryer, compressor and three way). There are videos out their on KZbin that demonstrate using a bullet valve to peirce the freon line, and hook up a guage to check your freon level. It could possibly be low on freon due to a leak. Note: opening up the sealed system however will jepordize your warranty. So be sure you no longer want to deal with LG before doing so. I wasted a lot of time trying different things and fighting with LG to try and save a 6yr old $3k fridge (now paperweight) without luck. I would have replaced the sealed system myself.. the problem is no one wants to come out just to recover the freon (at least in my area). And the machine is very expensive to purchase. Most small repair services won't touch sealed system issues either. And most won't even bother with LG issues.. My fridge was purchased in 2016, I think they were having compressor issues for a while (using the same linear compressor in their models) before a class action lawsuit was formed from so many broken fridges. My final thoughts to you are, on the back of the fridge, there is a removable panel. Once removed, you have access to the main board. There, you will see a green light. That may give you some kind of blinking code to reference. Also there you can run a diagnostic by pushing the little button. It will run the fans, the defroster, and the compressor at different times (also a youtube video on it somewhere). I believe if a fault is found during the test it will show a code on the front door where it usually displays the fridge set temps (not actual).

In your video there are two black wires that go to a separate plug. On my LG unit those two black wires come from the condenser and are inline with brown wires from the sensor and blue and black wires to the plug. Should I just cut and splice the new sensor in?

Would the Thermal fuse/Defrost sensor located in the freezer section cause the coils in the fridge section to ice/frost up as well? For a week or 2 i was receiving an error code "R DH" so i powered the fridge off and powered it back up, only to have the error return 2 days later. After the third reset, I stopped receiving the error, but noticed the rear inside of the fridge compartment freezing up. I have powered the fridge down and let the ice melt off of the fridge coil (no ice on the freezer coil) but I am not sure which defrost sensor i should be replacing. (Is there one on the fridge coils too?) Thanks

I have to remove the cover and put a couple pots of boiling water to thaw it out. There are no other problems, just this one. I was told it could be the timer or thermostat. If you need to test the part you will test it for resistance. The resistance should show 8.9K Ohms or more for temperatures colder than 30°F or from 6.2K Ohms to 8.8K Ohms for temperatures between 40°F to 31°F.
