THANK YOU!! Once I got over the fear of removing the gasket spring (actually, more afraid of trying to reattach), the repair took about an hour, including vacuuming time within the cabinet. Biggest help (besides the dreaded spring) was showing the location of the clip holding the pump in place. Once again, y'all have saved a repair call - and my mind. Thanks again.

Great video but if you have a newer washer, the process for removing the pump assembly is different. If you’re missing the two screws to remove the pump assembly, do the following: There is a vibration tray with three 10mm bolts you have to remove. The whole pump assembly and metal vibration tray will come out. Remove the four screws to detach the assembly and then continue with the video.

Hey thanks I've done this twice now using your video as reference. You can also remove the the spring clip by grabbing both loops of the clip with sturdy needlenose pliers and stretching the spring manually if you're afraid of slipping with the screwdriver and scratching the washer. Either way, beats buying an $80 pair of washer spring clip pliers when you're not doing this on the reg.

Great video...helped me get my washer back up and running! $45 for the pump, a bit of time doing the work...and all is working again! Hardest part for me was the big tube clamp...I couldn't get a pair of pliers open enough to squeeze it tight to get it back on...ended up getting one of the screw tighten type at the hardware store for $2 and that went on in a snap....I was worried about the spring clamp, but it went on with a vice grip just like in the video...this saved me at least a couple hundred bucks....thanks!

Excellent video! AppliancePartsPros is my "go to" source for appliance repair. I called LG for on-site/out-of-warranty service since they offered a flat rate price of $125-$250 for labor/parts/service. Catch is all of the LG service providers would not schedule anyone to come out for over two weeks! I called a non-LG service providers, told them the drain pump needed to be replaced and they wanted to charge a $85 trip fee to verify the problem and then they would order the part which they stated would take five days! I ordered the part via standard shipping; it arrived they next day. The box showed the part came from LG; I have no idea why appliance companies cannot source the part the same or next day. I had my laptop with me the laundry room and did it step-by-step and had no problems at all. Washer is now back up and running. Thank you AppliancePartsPros!

Thank you very much for this helpful video. It's just what I needed to get this repair done. I wanted to take a second to tell everyone about a big mistake I made with this repair. Instead of going to AppliancePartsPros first to buy the replacement motor, I went to Amazon and bought whatever cheap motor popped up first. BIG MISTAKE - that pump motor shipped in a brown box with no LG markings or part numbers, looked like it was remanufactured (had a warped impeller wheel), and ended up breaking in less than 8 months! So the second time around, I purchased directly from AppliancePartsPros, received a brand new, genuine LG pump motor, and just completed the repair for the second time. Learn from my mistake. Spend the little bit of extra money, and go right to these guys. Not only will you get a genuine part, but these guys are a great company with how they so helpfully put all of these videos out there. They should be rewarded with our business. This whole experience makes me really pissed at Amazon with how they have so many 3rd party, shady sellers on their site.

Save yourself a lot of time and pull the washer out enough so that you can lean it back on a 45 degree angle and go in from underneath. That way will only require 6 screws and two wire--pretty easy. You can take out pump motor assembly without disconnecting hoses, etc. just pull the wires, unscrew the motor pump and replace. A much easier fix even if it takes some time to get the washer in a position to work on it.

Great video, easy to follow. Only care needed if model happpens to be different. In my case it was WM0642HW & front door electric connection bit different (in fact bit easier)…means we just need to remove just the nuts rather than separating the wire from switch/lock. Also while attaching the wiring to the drain pump more care needed as did not find “N” marked clearly at respective places, making me go over the video couple of times. Last better to mark water taps on the wall to indicate one is hot water, just to avoid last minute dilemma. It’s a awesome resource made available for “DIY’ projects. If seniors are attempting to do it may be care be taken as it does demand decent time engagement. Thanks once again.

First I'd like to commend APP for their great videos... love the style! I'm guessing what I encountered may be associated with newer models produced after this installation video was created. I fixed an LG WM3270c that was installed in early 2017. 1) My lid didn't just slide off to the back like in the video. I tried using 'rubber gripper doodads' used to remove stuck jar lids and that didn't work. Sticky 'wide receiver gloves' didn't help either. On my model I used slightly damp hands pressed against the top of the lid and then a quick forceful push from front to back released the lid. 2) I couldn't figure out why the User Interface didn't just 'pop off' like the video... I had a single small screw affixing the UI to the frame and it was found in the upper right corner. 3) I wasn't fortunate enough to have the pump held in place by the clip. Instead, I found (3) 10mm bolts securing a metal tray that had the pump unit attached to it. *** On this topic, a notation to your video would be greatly valued *** After fumbling around for longer than I'd like to admit I was fortunate enough to find an alternative video that made reference to the bolts. The whole tray has to be removed to replace the pump 4) Lastly, somewhere here in these reviews/feedback I read about using zipties to remove the rubber gasket spring loop. Thank you, this worked BRILLIANTLY. There is no need to risk scratching your machine or puncturing your gasket with a screwdriver. Just attach a ziptie to both loops of the spring and then you have an easy hold to grab and spread the spring which releases tension on the loop and POOF! It's off. This technique was just as effective when reattaching the rubber gasket spring loop.

Very good instructional video. My only complaint is he should explain a spring expansion tool ( e.g. special plyer) is required for installing back the spring on the Boot on a front load washing machine. This is almost impossible to do it without the tool.

Not true. His vice grip method obviously worked but I found that attaching a zip-tie to the loops of the spring made for an easy option to grab and expand the spring for removal as well as replacement.

Excellent tutorial! I just replaced the pump, but probably didn't need to -- the drain hose (and the smaller recirculation hose) were completely clogged with nasty sediment which is probably what was causing the problem. Rule #1 - ALWAYS READ THE COMMENTS! :) Helpful tips abound in them! Read this full comment for advice on easily installing that big spring clamp ring! Rule #2 - Don't force anything. You may break something and make the repair much more costly. Every model is different, this pump is used in dozens of makes & models. The control panel on my machine wouldn't pop off after releasing the clips, I found a single screw toward the right side, going into the back of the panel. Also, my pump assembly was not held in by a clip, it is mounted on a metal plate, which is held in by three 10mm bolts. Use a socket, ratchet, and 3 in extension to get them out. Pull assembly out, and dismount the pump assembly from that plate to remove the pump motor. Take a picture or note which color wires are on top & bottom position, so you can put them back the same. My new motor had no markings at the terminals. Ok, now for installing that big bad spring ring clamp on the door boot? I struggled for a while trying doing it myself, using channel lock pliers, (couldn't find my vice grips). Impossible. Maybe if I had a helper to guide the ring while I stretched the spring... But in reading through dozens of comments, a lady mentioned using zip ties to install that spring. So I grabbed 2 and put one through each eyelet on the spring, zipped the ties into large loops, and was able to EASILY pull those 2 loops to spread the spring and slip it into place! Genius, whoever thought of that! No special tool or vice grip needed. My zip ties were 11 inches long, but any size about 8 inches or longer should work fine, you can get a bag of them cheap at auto parts or home improvement stores. Our 6 year old Kenmore (built by LG) stopped draining, threw the OE code. Ordered this drain pump from Appliance Parts Pros on Tuesday, received it on Thursday, (standard shipping, 2 days, as promised, thanks!). Installed it Thursday night, using this excellent video as a guide, and the washer is back to working perfectly! Thank you Appliance Parts Pros!!

That is how my pump is installed. Thanks for the details on which bolts to remove. Before removing the front of the machine I had 2 more screws to deal with. One held the plastic cover of the drain area on. And another was right behind that cover. These had to be removed to lift the front panel out of the bottom clips. At that point there were no more screws on the front of the pump like in the video.

I sure wish I'd have found your feedback prior to attempting this job. I also had the screw in the upper right corner of the user interface as well as I fumbled around for quite a few minutes feeling for the release tab on the pump but it was also affixed with 10mm bolts. Lastly, I also read about the zipties somewhere and it was brilliant!

Great video, but you missed a critical step that makes this operation considerably less complicated. Most LG washers are open at the bottom. If its not mounted to the options drawer riser, you can turn the machine on its side and there is no cabinet dis-assembly. It becomes a 5 minute job.
@appliancepartspros10 жыл бұрын
Michael Harris While taking it apart may be the longer way it is the the way to go. These washers are heavy and sometimes just pulling it out to get the top off can be a challenge. Also if you lay it on the side you have to put in the shipping bolts or the tub could bounce around and come off the suspension.

Please, please, please add a warning note to your video that sometimes the washer will not have the little release tab to remove the pump. Instead, the pump will be screwed onto a plate that limits vibration. In that case, you have to unscrew the 3 screws to remove the plate from the bottom frame. And then remove the two screws on the bottom of the plate to release the pump! I spent two hours trying to locate the release tab that wasn't there! Otherwise, great video.

Agreed. I just encountered this on my LG WM3270c. Generally, this video was a good guide (I like his style) but I had to find the '3 bolt info' on another video. I'm guessing that this differing setup is associated with models produced after this video was created.

We had someone come out 3 times to repair our washer under a SquareTrade warranty. He replaced the pump on the left twice. He also replaced some other parts like the PCB board and tubing. He then said it was the other motor that needed to be replaced as the issue was never resolved. It gives an OE error and doesn't drain. Ultimately SquareTrade just paid me off with a check which more than covers the cost of the washer. I'd like to just order the second motor and do this myself. Do you think that might fix the issue? THe tech seemed to think it would but honestly, he didn't seem all that technical to me so just want to be sure before I waste my time.

It looks like there are two pumps, one on the left and one on the right. Is that correct? Do I need to replace them both? Are they both the same part number? BTW, I ordered the LG tool for removing the spring wire ring assembly and it worked perfectly. I'd recommend it for sure for folks clumsy like me. Thanks for making this video.
@appliancepartspros8 жыл бұрын
There is usually a drain and a re circulation pump, you can buy them individually, so you only have to replace the one that failed!
@LaissezFaireFreedom8 жыл бұрын
It was definitely the drain pump, on the left, it runs terrific now. Thanks for your helpful video.

Should I still replace the drain pump even though I found out the OE code was from paper money clogging the rubber bellow drain hose and the drain pump is fine on my 10 year old LG FL? I bought a new drain pump since I couldn't find a kink or clog in the drain hose and the drain filter wasn't clogged. When I was installing the new pump, I discovered the dollar bills in the rubber drain hose that connects to the pump housing. Since my machine is 10 years old, should I install the new pump anyway since the old one may could go out soon since it is 10 years old?

Prior to replacing drain pump motor, all wash modes worked but didn't drain. After replacing pump and reassembling, the washer isn't detecting anything. It turns on but when setting to varies wash modes or spin, it doesn't operate. No error codes are given either. Any suggestions?
@drakedorosh93323 жыл бұрын
Bummer about the stand its on because without that you can go in through the bottom. I just tipped mine back and undid the screws around the drain plug. Three screws hold the pump in place. One of those goes through the plastic cover and two under that. There is a plastic release tab that holds the assembly's foot. Then without undoing any of the hoses, three screws on the old pump come off. New pump in. Remember to push through the drain hose before you attach to pump assembly to the front, then the plastic cover, clip the hose, two screws and stand it back up. Six screws and no need to mess with the door.

Not all LG washeres have the two pumps...one on one side one on the other as shown in the video. My wm2277hw just the drain pump on the left not the circulating pump on the right, caused a bit of confusion at the parts store because I'm the " fix it once"kinda guy & I wanted to do everything associated with this issue so I wouldn't have to go back in l8tr to fix a problem that was right next to the problem I just fixed...but only one pump in the wm2277hw. The parts guy said they have seen a ton of these go bad but not so much for the recirculator pump. He also stated for u guys with the two pumps that if your not pumping it out it's the drain pump if it's not washing correctly or getting in the tub correctly it would b the circulation pump...fyi

A single part can be compatible with many different appliances. We film the part on a single appliance model to serve as an example of the repair, but there may be slight variations in the process for different models. Thanks for the additional information about how the repair went with your particular model!

So, if I have my washer in a pretty tight space and dryer mounted on top, could I undo my mounting brackets, slide the top of dryer with dryer on top back two inches and still get the control panel off without removing the dryer? Otherwise I need to take off a bathroom door, get a couple hands to pull dryer down, etc. I’d rather not go through the hassle if those retaining clips can be reached without removing the top. I have a ratcheting screw driver and even a full car trim tool kit should I need it for those retaining clips. Thx in advance!

Hi great video I am replacing the drain pump for WM2501HWA with the 4681EA2001T. The pump looks identical but is an inch longer so the plastic cover does not fit. i noticed on your video that the cover is more like the cover on the circulation pump. I will check to see if someone switched If not can I install the pump without the plastic cover.

Great Video, can these Pumps fail in a way that they still pump, but make a huge racket. My LG Model WM3987HW starts to make a lot of new noise just during the drain cycle, but water does drain.. Is the Pump 110 volts so as to be bench tested for noise? Thanks Steve
@appliancepartspros7 жыл бұрын
You can take the housing apart to see if something is in there. Check the wiring diagram for specifics on the voltage.
@stevehughes54037 жыл бұрын
I did finally inspect the pump, it does use 120 volt line voltage, bench tested it and it ran good and quiet, Cleaned both the pumps and put them back in. The loud noise is still there and still a mystery.
@appliancepartspros7 жыл бұрын
Steven, can you detect at all where the noise is coming from on the washer? Top, bottom, left, right, back, front, etc? It could perhaps be the motor on the unit or maybe the water valve.
@stevehughes54037 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the follow up question, the All in One Washer Dryer is 4 years old and has about 6 medium loads a month, even had a 2 year break with no use when I had to leave town to stay with my Dying Dad to be his care giver in his last days. I have returned to my home about 10 months back and the Washer started with the noise about a month ago. The noise is loud but only lasts for maybe 40 to 60 seconds, The washer is such a echo chamber it is hard to tell where the noise comes from, but happens maybe 4 times during a wash cycle, it does seem to happen at the start of each Drain cycle. The last Drying cycle there are no unusual noises so I kind of think that rules out the Main motor. You have given me a idea to remove the top of the machine and run a load. I would have to camp out in front of the machine though because the noise happens for such a short period each time.

Do you know how to remove the pump assembly from a WM8000HVA? I have gotten this far, but it appears to be connected differently from the older model shown in this video.
@appliancepartspros8 жыл бұрын
We do not have a specific video for that model. This one may be helpful but you may have to adjust the procedure for your model.
@andrewhsia21778 жыл бұрын
not sure if the year matters. Mine is around 2012. It is like above, required 3 bolts to be pulled at the base to get the assembly out. There was no front screws as shown here. Once out, it required 4 screws to be removed to get the bracket off the pump so it could be taken appart. 2 at the base, one in front under the filter and one in the back bellow the discharge. Then the 3 screws around the pump as explained in the video. The only differences I found were 1 screw in the right hand side for the face panel instead of it just being clips, and 2 extra screws for the front cover /door assembly plus a clip on top. The door assembly then had to be tilted away from the washer so it could be lifted off a bracket area that held it up.

As far I know there is only the one o-ring that goes around the impeller area to seal the motor when you put it in the housing.
