Having been in the service business for Many Many years I understand how hard it can be to explain service issues.. This tech did an outstanding job in my opinion explaining the process of replacing the spider on a front load washer. His gamer is great, no crutch words, and made it very easy to understand. I was very impressed, thank you

The video tutorial on the LG Washing Machine repair was sufficient enough for me to perform the repair on my 6 year old LG WM1814C front loader. Although I initially thought that just my musty smelling gasket was the culprit, I soon realized that the Aluminum (pot Metal) Spider Arm has virtually disintegrated. I ordered the parts (Spider Arm & Gasket), painted the new Spider with White Epoxy Appliance Paint (Several coats), installed some new Stainless Steel Allen Head (M8 x 1.25 -30mm) bolts, applied Blue Locktite Thread locker to the bolts and Lithium Grease to the Main Axle. My Washing machine is now ready for hopefully another 10-12 years. Thanks for the Video. However the Gasket is quite a chore to get on correctly and the groves formed in the tub were repaired with 2-part Marine Epoxy glue. The video was very helpful and the parts came in about 2 days.

While replacing the seal and bearings on My 4 year old LG washer, I did paint the spider although it hadn't rusted or corroded at all. You would think they would last longer than 6 years unless You used salt water for washing.. lol.. I did notice the thread lock on the screws, which made removing the spider screws very difficult. It was impossible to screw the screws back in, so I used a bolt the same thread and placed a groove in the screw with an angle grinder and used it to remove all the old thread locker. The screws were now easy to replace and I used blue thread locker on the screws to stop them coming loose. Lee in Australia

[May '24] This video is 10 years old, and my LG washer is about 10 years old, also... I'm just now experiencing the clunking and grinding noises associated with possible spider failure... I very much appreciate the professionalism all throughout this video... Very easy to understand and follow, so it shouldn't be a problem... I'm very mechanically inclined, but I wouldn't recommend this repair for the "non-tool-savvy" members of our general population... If you DO NOT understand the concept of "righty-tighty lefty-loosey", then you should probably hire someone to perform this job for you... Thank You for this excellent 10-year-old video...

One of the best how-to videos I've ever seen. Thorough, and clean. Very helpful. My model washer was newer, so there were a few differences. Those being; no heater element, and the spider sort of "snaps" into place before it is bolted in (was a major pain to get off without damaging the drum). Other than that... great video. Even covered putting everything back together!

I recommend You clean the threads of the bolts first to get all the old thread locker off and have clean threads before You use the thread locker. You can wire brush the bolt threads or run them thru a nut. Don't use too much thread locker in case those bolts have to come out once again. I would recommend painting the new spider with a metal primer and a coat of paint using spray cans. That should make the spider last a much longer time. Lee in Australia

I did this the day before Thanksgiving and don't remember if I left any comments.. Great video! Great company for parts! It does suck that these are very poorly made as far as the material for the spider, but at least we can get parts for it. Can't really beat front loaders for stackability and footprint. Just wish they would make better stuff. I paid around 1000$ for that unit new 10 years ago. Parts should last longer for that money!

Had a hard time removing the bolts on the spider arm. Used WD 40 and PB blaster, did not work. Thread locker that was used here is the red one (highest strength), the bolts were not corroded or rusted. For my particular front load washer, the bolts were threaded directly to the spider arm assembly (no plastics). What worked for me was using a heat gun to heat up the bolts and sort of melt the red threadlocker. There is a video on youtube regarding this ( uploaded by the information mercenary). Can also use torch. Thank you for the detailed video Appliance Parts Pros. It helped me a lot.

I just replaced the washer spider, bearings and seal on my Samsung front load washer. This took me 6 hours and I am a competent technician. This job is not for the faint of heart! I've had the Samsung for 6 years and I the wash tub seemed out of balance and a burnt smell was detected. Most places on the internet seemed to say this is caused by a broken washer spider. So I ordered a spider for $120 and a bearings and seal kit for $76. So I fully disassembled the tub and found the spider was not broken, it was actually in very good shape. However, since I already have all the parts I went ahead and replaced all the parts. This made me wonder what caused the tub to go out of balance. I would suspect it is caused by a ton of detergent residue that was packed into the crevices of spider as well as between the spider and the tub. It took me 30 minutes to clean out all the detergent residue from the tub and the two halves of the plastic housing by spraying it down with a hose. At the end of 6 hours, the washer has been reassembled and the job done. Now it works like new! I hope this helps other Samsung front load owners.

Don't tighten the bowl bolts up in one go, go round and round the bolts tightening a little at a time. using a small ratchet spanner is ideal, and don't overtighten the bolts by holding the spanner or ratchet bar at the end, which can give too much leverage resulting in stripped threads in the plastic. Most important is to lubricate the seal between the two inner lips. Just a bit of liquid detergent on Your finger is OK just before You place the shaft into the bearings and seal. This makes sure the seal is lubricated and it should last a long time. The actual bearings were a very tight fit into the bowl and lubricating where the bearings fit does help somewhat. I was very careful knocking the seal into place without damaging the protruding lip of the seal, or damaging the rubber part of the seal, which would allow water into the metal part of the seal. I also coated the seal, once in place with a thin coating of silicon, mainly to stop any water leaking around the sides on the seal/bowl area and the silicon onto the plastic bowl about 25mm wide around the seal. I first cleaned the area using alcohol wipes.. Lee in Australia

Lee, It sounds like you know your stuff, so could you help me with an issue I am having trying to replace my LG washer spider? I was following this video and everything was going perfect, until I got to removing the screws from the old spider. The screws are caked with crust and residue so I put some WD40 on the screws. After a few minutes, they started to turn, and they all will turn and turn, but they do not come out. What could be the problem and would you have any solution to getting the screws totally out so I can finish up the repair? If I cant get the screws out, looks like I have to buy the whole inner tub assembly.

You should have mentioned in your video that the bearings and the seal need to be changed and to clean all components before re-assembly. I would never go to all that work without replacing the bearings and seal. you are asking to do the repair all over again when the bearings start to squall from the original broken spider opening the seal during the spin and allowing water into the bearings. Also you should clean the rotor and stator including the harnesses.

Why there's no gasket around the spider? I want to put a silicon gasket maker "Black 470 Kleen-flo" around it, I wish it will last longer. Also, I will add some Maxi-Coat (Loctite) under the spider to protect it from the corrosion. Its very dirty. I own my LG washer since 5 years now. The bearings have to be changed. I saw your video, it helps a lot, but when I want to order the bearings (or others parts), you can't delivered in Canada... And in Canada, LG doesn't sell parts, we must call their technician... BUT I can read the bearing number model, when the guy put in the new bearings in, so I ordered SKF bearings. BTW, thanks a lot for the "how to replace" video!

Richard Raucina I did all i mentionned: the maxi-coat under and gasket around and all over the spider (I cleaned it)! I put some maxi-coat in the hole between the 2 bearings to prevent corrosion/rust by the moist. Its a test, i'll see how many years it will last.

Thank you so much for these repair videos, you have help more than a few times repairing my lg tromm washer. I just had a question about the spider bracket, is the shaft in the center supposed to turn freely in the base? Its doesn't seem right to me but i dont know what normal is when it comes to appliances. My washer was spinning out of control and giving me the UE error. I checked all of the normal things most forums said to look at but everything seemed fine, bearings look great and still feel really tight and smooth. The only problem i found was that the shaft spins and has a lot of slop back and forth, i could easily move the stainless drum about a half inch up and a down and side to side when it was assembled. I hope to hear back, thanks
@appliancepartspros
@appliancepartspros 10 жыл бұрын
If the tub has a lot of movement like yours, it could be the spider is just as damaged as the one in the video. The shaft is part of the spider and should not move freely. It also could be a bad bearing. You will want to fix it right away before the inner tub damages the outer one from bouncing around. If you are going to tear it apart I would plan on doing the spider, bearings, tub seal and the rear seal.

If the bolts don't nicely start spinning when you try and take the spider off the back, just quit and replace the drum. The problem is the bolts go THROUGH the drum and set into nuts which are molded into the plastic agitator bars inside the drum. If the nuts spin, you can't get in there to hold them. You have to break the inside plastic of the agitator bars to get to the nuts. After you have done all that, you might as well buy a whole inner drum brand new.

I was then able to remove the baffle from the drum and take it apart to remove the rest of the bolt and reseat the nut. The replacement bolt was $13 cad tho... still I was able to complete the repair after that setback.

Our LG just started violently shaking in its last 10ish minutes of its spin cycle to the point where the machine moves a foot at least and you can hear it throughout the house. Replaced the springs and leveled the feet on the concrete floor. Still real loud and violent banging. I have a shock absorber coming in the mail but they look fine. How would I know if I have a bad spider/shock absorber/bearing?? Its not very visible with the top or rear panel removed.

@appliancepartspros
@appliancepartspros 9 жыл бұрын
SweetRanma2008 If the spider is cracked it could allow the inner tub to bounce around making a lot of noise. You can also open up the door and try to push the lip of the inner tub towards the outer tub. So at 12 oclock push up, 3 oclock push right etc all the way around the tub. The inner tub should not really move at all so if there is a area where the inner tub can be moved it could indicate a bad spider. Of course the best way is to open up the unit and inspect the spider, bearings and seals.

In my case, the basket started rubbing up against boot seal, and took some pieces off. Started getting a slight burned rubber smell. during the spin cycle.

How can I be sure it is the Spider that is causing the noise and burning rubber smell during the spin cycle, without having to take apart my washer first?

+Doreen Majeau If the inner tub moves around inside the outer tub it is an indication the spider or bearing are bad. What I mean is if you can push the lip of the inner tub closer to the lip of the outer tub. You can also post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem. forum.appliancepartspros.com/

Kenji Poser You can go to our site and verify how the parts are sold by looking up your appliance model number. On the washer in the video the bearing are sold separately from the drum although not in a kit, they are sold individually.

I believe the thread locker is the culprit, as it really locks the bolts as the thread is full of the thread locker.. Mine were very difficult to remove and impossible to screw back in. I used a bolt with the same thread and put a slot in it with an angle grinder. When screwed in, it removed all traces of the old thread locker and the old screws were then easily screwed back in, using blue thread locker. Lee in Australia

+jb3147 What did you end up doing to resolve the problem with the spider bolts spinning, but not coming out. I'm having the exact same problem with 5 spinning. The one that did come out had been covered with locktite. Any comments appreciated.

Keith, I ended up buying a new drum/spider assy and returning the spider that I ordered earlier. Unit is running smoothly.

Replace the drum. The problem is the bolts go THROUGH the drum and set into nuts which are molded into the agitator bars inside the drum. If the nuts inside spin, you can't get in there to hold them. You have to break the inside plastic of the agitator bars to get to the nuts. After you have done all that, you might as well buy a whole drum.

I was following the video and everything was going perfect, until I got to removing the screws from the old spider. The screws are caked with crust and residue so I put some WD40 on the screws. AFter a few minutes, they started to turn, but they do not come out. They only turn and turn. What could be the problem and would you have any solution to getting the screws totally out so I can finish up the repair?

In a case like that, we would usually soak it in rust buster and let it soak for a while to help loosen that up: www.appliancepartspros.com/pro-rust-buster-tj93241-ap5638848.html

I went ahead and bought a new tub because the screws just turned and turned. Got everything back together and went to test a load and water was leaking from the heater element. Somehow it became disconnected and is loose. There does not seem to be anyway to snap it back in place. Any suggestions?

I am sure I am not the only one who replaced a whole tub or spider assembley and try a test run of the washing machine only to have to take everything apart because water was spewing out. I had no idea where it was coming from, but by checking all the hoses that your video showed to connect, I deduced it was the heating element that was loose. I searched your videos but couldnt find anything, then I actually found another video that kinda showed how the heater element is set in place by loosening the middle screw and then tightening it again. I think you should add this to your videos because your videos are the most thorough, simple and easy to follow. Ultimately and although I had to get a whole tub because the screws would not come out of the old spider, my washing machine is back to running like new and it only cost me about $200 and a few hours of my time. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUPPLYING THESE VIDEOS FOR DIY'ERS LIKE MYSELF!!!! NAMASTE!!!

Out of the two large size hoses on the top of my tub only one of them has the blue dome thing inside. The video shows both orifices having one. I have looked all over and I am just not seeing one. I have a parts diagram and it doesn't show them on there either. Can someone give me more insight in to what this part is and what it does?

It is hard to say it depends on how mechanical the person is, if you run into any problems along the way, etc. If you wanted a tech to come out you would have to call around and get a price, we do not have any information about repair pricing.

Nicely done video. Thank you. I am an Appliancepartspros.com customer. My only comment/question would be after such stresses placed upon the spindle bearings and seals due to the broken spider, wouldn't it be a good idea to replace them as well? Or perhaps they are not replaceable? My concern would be leaks due to a damaged seal.
@appliancepartspros
@appliancepartspros 9 жыл бұрын
Scott Leahy Thanks for being a customer! It depends on the model number whether the bearings can be changed or not. While you are doing the spider it is good to check them out and change them if they are bad. Some people do change them just because they are right there and why not if you already have the machine apart that far.

Hey I have a question. If the washer spider breaks on my samsung washing. Can I just replace the washer spider. Or I have to replace the whole drum because the drums and spider is one piece. I had a technician to come tell me he can't fix it and charged me it for it and left. I was like wow.

Indeed, thanks for taking the time to explain everything to me, much appreciated. I would prefer a top load. I can already tell that it puts less stress into the drums and the main stem. It can hold more water. One day I will get one, as for right now my mechanic room is too small for side by side washing and dryer machine.

This is an absolute BS situation in the front-loader industry, they're designed to fail! Is there any manufacturer that has caught on to this and has stopped making their drum spider support out of virgin aluminum? 4 year-old Samsung machine here, even took out the front of the tub with all the aluminum chunks grating the plastic and really messed up the pump with the metal granules. I knew mine was done when the drum locked up completely. I'm trying to come up with something to coat the new spider to at least hinder the corrosion process next time.

I think all front loaders corrode at some point. I am in the process of replacing my spider, bearings, seal and hall sensor on a Samsung WF330ANW/XAA-01. I'm thinking I should spray paint the spider with some kind of rust prevention paint or something before putting it all back together.

well I'm definitely not buying another one of those if it's made out of the same metallurgy. why the fuck can't they make one of those out of something that does not corrode is easy or break down in water kind of counterintuitive don't you think. Mark that off my list of washers never to buy.
