In this episode, I'm tackling a sudden issue with the Road King and taking my first steps towards bidding farewell to those wallet-draining dealer maintenance bills. Time to roll up my sleeves and dive into some DIY diagnosis. Plus, In the near future, I'm planning to tackle fluid changes solo. Couldn't wait around for a lift to be shipped, so I picked up the Pittsburgh Motorcycle lift from Harbor Freight. Join me as I assemble and learn how to lift a motorcycle with this floor jack and put it to the test to investigate the mystery of the Harley Davidson Road King!

Once it's lifted a cargo tie strap can be used to secure some stability.. there are "loops" at the front and back of the jack..

I also like to put something under the front tire to give it all a bit more stability. 👍😎

@@Stein55Pan Off the top of my head.. after using the cargo tie strap.. lock your front forks.. or, lift the front wheel only a few inches off the ground and place some folded cardboard or a piece of wood slightly wedged against the tire..

Good video; I have the same jack, tighten your handle nut and use straps to secure to the lift.

Thank you for the tip! I realized after creating the video that the jack has strap hooks, which will certainly provide more confidence when using it. I appreciate your comment and suggestion. Take care and stay safe!

Wonder if you can add some spacers so they will fall into the safety stops
@CageFreeMoto
@CageFreeMoto 5 ай бұрын
Sigh... I heard of spacers but all new to me. Rode it from SoCal to NorCal without a problem then this happened over the weekend. Maybe my first DIY should not be the brakes as it does stop the motorcycle :)

@@CageFreeMoto depends on how difficult it is to get your brake pads out. I did my brakes myself on both Victorys. Try watching a tutorial on brake pad replacement. That should give you an idea.

I'm not sure I trust any lift from Harbor Freight. I bought a J&S Jack, made in the USA. I don't strap my Ultra Limited at all and I wheel it around my garage. No wobble, nothing. Super secure, and one of the most reliably safe jacks out there.

I definitely will upgrade in the future, however, think that my next one will be a Hydraulic Motorcycle Lift so I can change all the fluids and tackle more stuff as I learn to work on the Road King. I was hesitant on the one I purchased and shared in this video, but seems to be working and maybe for now help me wash it better. We shall see how it goes... thanks for the comment, stay safe and take care!

I am almost at 30k... been riding a lot... what can I say, I love the Road King ;) Will checkout the pads, if worn it would feel like the disc is warped?

@CageFreeMoto You can see the pads looking from the ft fender towards the calipers. Since you have a lift now that will make it easier. The caliper has a small bump out on it that will start rubbing the disc before you completely run out of pads, I feel that small wear bump it simply rubbing on the disc to warm you that you need to replace the front pads. @CageFreeMoto That's all it is buddy, you need pads. The caliper is trying to let you know by rubbing.

I use this same one to do maintenance on my road king. Does a great job. The only problem is that bar that you use to move the lift is flimsy. I bent mine and is basically useless now. Other than that it’s a great lift.

@@CageFreeMoto Yep I agree its probably the calipers rusted or gummed up. But breaks are easy and doable. just take off the calipers and remove the pads before you spray in some WD40. It can take a lot of force to re-open them
