I'm going to make this for my little 150cc, mainly because I have trust issues and i need to do some work that would tip it over. This is brilliant. I will surely put a link to your page, once it done, as the credit goes to you. Thank you.

Made one for my lift (similar cheap model) which felt horribly unsafe at first. With your frame and 2 or 4 straps the bike (royal enfield 411) and lift feel rock.solid. thank you. Muz from Oz

I stopped at 6:29 because the center point of the scissor is going to move in an arc and I want to see just how much. Just visually I think 5 to 6 cm, laterally, at full lift. Thanks for this vid because now I think I'm gong to do this and move the skids about 2 cm towards the wrench side.

Thanks for the inspiration. I basically did this, though I used 1.5" square steel tube. Plus on my bike I have no flat, even surface to lift on so had to install different spacers on either side of the lift in order to lift on a solid frame member. Thanks.

Nice mod Matt! I wonder if it would of offered even more stability if you would have had the longer sections of timber in contact with the floor, rather than the short sections? Basically giving you a bigger footprint on the ground. Regards from across the pond, Dazza. 🇬🇧
@advmatt
@advmatt 4 жыл бұрын
I thought about that but the longer sections on top create a little pocket for the lift and also allowed room for the eye bolts to go through the wood. If the long pieces were on the floor the anchors would have to be different. Thanks for watching.

Its not the box jack thats unstable its the frame contact point on your bike they are narrow. I use this on a m109r vtx1800 and ultra glide and its stable due to the contact area...only thing i dont like about the jack is it has no locking points for the sliding arms inside.. i do like your mod as it adds a little more security ..👍

Perhaps this design would be even more stable with attached blocks cut from the same size wood under each eye-bolt. In the centre of each block a 1" hole would be needed to clear its eye-bolt thread, washer and nut. Just a thought.

Nice! I actually knocked my 390 changing tires... was in a hurry and my front stand wasnt tall enough, so i rigged something up. Guessing you could go 4x4 on the bottom to make it a bit taller for the GS?
@advmatt
@advmatt 2 жыл бұрын
I used the stand the way it is to lift my GS, but a 4x4 would save some cranking.
@bacbladerunner
@bacbladerunner 2 жыл бұрын
I had a similar idea to Dogphlap. I was thinking of just moving the two long 2x4's to under the shorter pieces instead of over them. This would not only give much better stability, but would also allow the kickstand to be raised much easier, and give you 1-1/2" more lift. To do this you would need to counter bore the bottom so the bolt and nut are recessed, or better, just use 1/2" eye screws instead of eye bolts. There is no way they would pull out.
@advmatt
@advmatt 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. There are options.
@Super020469
@Super020469 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use an impact gun on that Jack, if anything I would use an electric drill with variable speed... I think it would have been better if you would have put the longboards with the eyelids on the bottom of the 2x4s that are blocking the jack in/you would have had a wider and more stable base... You could have countersunk the eyelid bolts on the bottom and it would have been flush all the way across with a more wider and stable platform, then you could have used two short pieces of wood on top to block the jack in 👍🏻
@advmatt
@advmatt 3 жыл бұрын
Good call on the impact wrench. I quit using it. I thought about putting the longer sides on the ground but I didnt want to counter sink the eye bolts as you mentioned. If i ever have to build it again I may do that. Thanks for watching.

Question? Have you discovered since making this jig any slippage between the metal base of the jack since it's not secured to your cross brace? Perhaps a few sheet metal screws with the jack raised into the cross braces would make everything one piece. I think once everything is up and straps are tightened you would not have any concerns but my concern is that while getting the jack up with just the straps loose could be an opportunity for the jack to slip off of the cross braces? Maybe I am over thinking it? Your thoughts.
@advmatt
@advmatt Жыл бұрын
I have not had any issues with the jack moving between the cross braces. All of the weight is straight down, there are no lateral forces that push the jack. I remove the jack from the braces when not in use for ease of storage. If it was all one piece it would make it much heavier and bulkier to move around and store. Just my thoughts. Cheers.

@advmatt

I lifted the bike this way. My opinion is it is okay to lift this way because the weight is distributed across the mounting bracket for the stock skid plate. The after market plate is much better because it doesn't touch the engine.

Awesome. I have been looking for solutions to lifting my KTM and GSA. Thank you. With the center stand removed from your GS, what is your solution for lifting when you are out in the backcountry or traveling?
@advmatt
@advmatt 3 жыл бұрын
Great question about lifting without a center stand. I did a video on this about two years ago on what to do without a center stand. I use a modified cane as a stand for a three point lift. It doesnt work as well on the GS but it's perfect for chain drives with double sided swing arms. Works really well for living chains on the trail.
@steveb5383
@steveb5383 4 жыл бұрын
I like the idea, I recently bought a 2020 - 390 Adv and want to adjust and lube the chain. It looks to me that you are lifting the bike with the exhaust and part of the engine guard. Can you confirm?
@advmatt
@advmatt 4 жыл бұрын
I have an added aluminum plate under the stock engine guard that helps protect the exhaust. I lifted the bike from here when I changed the rear tire but if you all you want to do is clean and lube the chain trying using something that lifts from the rear of the swing arm toward the kickstand. I did a short video on this awhile back. I carry this modified cane with me all of the time for this purpose. The video name is "No Centerstand, No Problem". Link is here kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2mmeKOQndRmabs . Cheers.

You cannot raise a bike with it's dirt/dust/rock pans, plastic and/or metal, still in place and expect to have a stable bike once raised. I've had no problems with either the frame directly on the stand or if the engine is lower than the frame, blocks between the frame and stand.
@advmatt
@advmatt 3 жыл бұрын
The bikes I ride use the engine as a support member so there is no frame at the bottom of the bike, and my bikes dont have center stands. I needed a way to lift them and this has worked really well. It depends on the kind of bike you have. This wont work for all bikes, but works great for Adventure bikes.
