WARNING!!! Read and follow the instructions that came with your fireplace, because if you do not follow the instructions exactly, a fire or explosion may result, your house could blow up and you could die. [I'm not being overdramatic by the way] Do not go by what I say. It is only to familiarise you with how residential gas fireplaces work.
For those who offer to buy me a drink, thank you! I have Venmo and CashApp.

A. This appliance has a pilot that must be lit manually. When lighting the pilot, follow these instructions exactly.
B. BEFORE LIGHTING, smell around the appliance area for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS:
Do not try to light any appliance.
Do not touch any electric switch, do not use any phone in your building.
Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor's phone. Follow the gas supplier's instructions.
If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.
C. Use only your hand to push in or turn the gas control knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not push in or turn by hand, don't try to repair it, call a qualified service technician. Force or attempted repair may result in a fire or explosion.

God bless you! My husband always handled these things and tonight you helped an old widow out! In July 2023 when my husband was on hospice for cancer, we turned off the pilot light because it was making the living room too warm. I have kept it off until now, but we are expecting a storm and could lose power anytime. So at 3 a.m. I decided I better not freeze when I heard it was 15 degrees outside. You saved me! Thanks so much! Me and my new kitten are snuggly warm now! ❤ My husband would thank you too!😊

As a first-time homebuyer, I was a bit lost when it came to using my fireplace, and my realtor didn't have the details from the seller. Instead, I was given a chimney specialist's contact and told it could cost around $100 for assistance. Thankfully, I stumbled upon your video and, by following your instructions, managed to light the fireplace with ease! Thank you so much for sharing that video. Fireplaces indeed warm homes, but it’s your kindness that warms our hearts!

My dad died unexpectedly when I was 10. I remember my mom and I being baffled by lighting the pilot on our fire place. It is one of the standout moments in my mind of us healing. This was in the days before KZbin so we just had to trial and error our way through it. Every fall when we would light the pilot, we would reflect on how far we'd come . Since I moved out of my mom's house it has been a few years since I've had to light a pilot. This year my wife and I have a house with a gas fireplace and I needed a refresher. Your comment reminded me of the silent ritual my mom and I would have together each fall lighting the pilot. I hope you find solace and healing. More than 17 years later my mom and I still think about my dad, but have been able to build new lives for ourselves. I sincerely hope you are able to do the same. Keep the memories alive, heal, and move on.

This is an excellent video... well done. I normally leave the pilot on all the time. However, last spring it went out so I waited until now [July] to relight the pilot. Going through all the steps and pushing the pilot button in, no matter how long I push it, the pilot does not stay lighted. Any advice on this situation?

Thanks, first time in 20 yrs the pilot went out on our Gas Fire Place Stove....first thing I did was call the repairman, had to leave a message with their answering service, I thought the Fire Place had a larger issue. The Fire Place was over 20 yrs old, had to to be something big, right? Then while I was waiting for the call back from the technician, I went to KZbin, found your video, in 6 mins, pilot was lit, I adjusted the flame a little bit and working fine.....very simple thing but if you don't do something for long while sometimes you forget. Thanks again!! Happy New Year!!

Now, I know how to turn it off, and turn it on, and good to know about the gas valve. Maybe that’s why our bills were always so high, bleeding gas! A very big thank you, stay safe!

I just moved into a rental. I struggled with igniting the pilot light for several minutes, then watched this video. There is now a fire in the fireplace. Thank you so much!

At my house we have the exact same one and our red handle is in the position to allow gas through, we haven’t touched the thing since moving in so it’s probably been like that for three years. Should we turn it to stop the flow, does it impact our safety or plans to eventually use this fire place

thank you so much. This was so helpful today. Mine has no instruction page, and I would not have known or had the patience, to wait and click the pilot button as much as I had to to get this going. 🙏

Great video, thank you. Have the exact same fireplace. Read the instructions, wasn’t exactly sure if I understood correctly. Video was clear and help to fill in the holes.

Hi Adam, thanks for that! Apparently you only need to turn off the Pilot seasonally? So can you leave it on for a couple of months (during the winter season)?

Hey Adam thanks for the video. Everything worked for me but flicking the light switch itself. The pilot was on but the fireplace didn't ignite. Double checked my electrical box and all power is on. Any idea why it doesn't work?

Every year I feel like “i must be doing something wrong!!!” I come on, find this same video and then I hear you say “if it’s been off for a long time you may have to hit the striker a few more times” and I’m like ohhhhhh that’s right!! Thanks again!

I have a majestic fireplace and it's a direct vent. Never really used it after all these years but I'm selling my home and an inspector mentioned it to me that he wanted me to get a chimney cleaning. Had a bunch of people tell me mine isn't connected to the chimney and doesn't need this. Do these fireplaces need cleaning like wood burning fireplaces?

Lots of people overlook that the first time they do this. Youre not alone. We leave ours on anyway, only relight it once in a blue moon if it goes out.

Thank you for these details instructions. I was able to get the pilot to light up and run the fireplace. I had a operation related question. For winter, how should one turn off the fireplace? i.e. should the dial be left in the ON position (gas tap is also left on) and then basically use the wall switch to turn on and off?
