What is the best way to load a leather knife strop with emulsions? The Jende way! This video introduces the Jende Leather Strops and how to load them properly with our Jende Diamond Emulsions. The goal of loading the leather is to only put down a thin layer that gets into the pores of the skin, not to load it so much that it accumulates on the surface. Any emulsion accumulation will be pulled off on the first stropping pass, which is a waste of abrasive. We used our 0.25 micron Jende Poly Diamond Emulsion, but no matter what micron size you use, the application is the same for all grits on the leather.
We let the leather dry out until there was no transfer from the strop to our fingers when lightly rubbed. The strop is now ready to use! See Parts 2 and 3 to this video, which is stropping use and techniques.
Our veg tanned cow leather strops come in several sizes - 210x70mm and 2x6" Bench Strops mounted to 3/4" acrylic for easy holding and mounting in a stone holder; as well as in the 1x6 Jende JIGS, Hapstone, TSProf, and Edge Pro, the 1x4 KME Sharpener, and Wicked Edge sizes.

We actually have both the rough/suede strop as well as the top/shiny side strops. The strops in this video are the smoother side.

@@JendeIndustries which do you recommend? Which is better?

@@69CamaroSSIt really depends on your needs. If you are finish stropping only, the regular emulsions are good. If you want more aggression or dealing with more abrasion resistant steels, the MAX are for you!

Well if we use for 10-15 razor sharpening in 3 months, basically 5 a month, how long 50 ml bottle goes ?
@JendeIndustries
@JendeIndustries 2 жыл бұрын
Excellent question! 50ml will last quite a long time if you only use it 5 times per month. Probably at least 1 year if not longer.

Hi jende... how do you store this and how do you keep your strop clean when you're storing it after you put this on? What is the best way to store your strop after you're done with them so to keep them clean, and it is it important to keep them dust free and all that sort of thing while storing
@JendeIndustries
@JendeIndustries 4 жыл бұрын
You can keep the strop stored in a plastic bag or a storage bin with an opening for some air circulation as there is usually residual moisture from the emulsions that evaporates over time.

I just got a full size roo strop and the spray I use normally takes to a strop well but it doesn't with my jende. Wonder if I need to condition/sand the leather for it to take the spray well. As it is right now the spray just kinda sits on the surface and can be easily wiped off even after letting dry for a while. Maybe I used too much spray.
@JendeIndustries
@JendeIndustries 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you might have to wait longer for it to fully dry, but there is no real prep to do otherwise and our leather should accept all kinds of sprays, emulsions and pastes.

I bought a 7ml bundle but the bottle don't have a spray nozzle, how do you suggest to dispense the compound?
@JendeIndustries
@JendeIndustries 11 ай бұрын
The 7ml bottles can be poured out carefully. The emulsion is thick enough to not just spill out everywhere.

Yes, You can load the leather belts the same way. Only difference is leather takes less emulsion to load. Here is a video showing loading the leather: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raSZmXuMh5amgqs

For straight razors, fpr shaving Im using 30k shapton. After that ill do 4-5 laps with 0,25 micron jende. Do you recommend 0,1 also? Any improvement or the edge will be too harsh?
@JendeIndustries

finer is almost always smoother. The only caveat is if the edge is too thin and may roll as you get finer and finer. You will know by 8K if the edge will roll, though.

I've considered scuffing the leather prior to application with some 80 grit bonded sandpaper to give the diamond or CBN crystals a bit of texture to reside in instead of just whisking off the surface. Your thoughts on this?
@JendeIndustries
@JendeIndustries 4 жыл бұрын
Not a bod idea. We also make our strops with a rough side up upon request. That will give the strop more aggression when used with the coarser grit emulsions. The surface of the leather is usually like sand dunes, so roughing it up will give more places for the abrasive to hold onto, and will cut at varying levels given the height of the dunes.

@@JendeIndustries thanks. Rough side up cedes a bit more control than I like to have over the outcome but might be the ticket if I were working on softer western knives.

@@JendeIndustries I also have a couple strops where I added a couple drops Elmer's glue to CBN emulsion (.5 & 1.5 micron) and applied over a couple new leather strops. Resulted in a bit of stiction but I still use them 4 years later, with occasional refreshing.

@@thwwoodcraft1449 So kind of a permanently bonded grit :) as long as you get the results you desire, it's all good. Do you find the strop collects more debris or has more elasticity because of the glue?
@thwwoodcraft1449
@thwwoodcraft1449 4 жыл бұрын
@@JendeIndustries has elasticity due to the combination of glue and oil in the emulsion. But it did cure fully so doesn't attract dirt. Didn't form a hard shell, or a gloss. Looks kind of waxed & a bit muddy-ish. I recoates recently and did abrade with paper to rough up a bit. .

I was a bartender when I was younger - The rule is when you're at the bar, always add more ice. But when you're at home, always add more booze. This is my home 😄😄 But more seriously, I actually don't use a loaded leather strop myself. I always load up my nanocloth, and it takes more, so I add a little too much sometimes on the leather. Ideally you want the thinnest coating possible on cow and roo strops.
