Once you’re comfortable, you are 100% supposed to learn to load in a changing tent or changing bag, blindly by feel. That film can still be fogged on the edges in the daylight spool deeper than you think. My college final in Bill McDonald’s Cinematography class (Bill is former UCLA film school Dean) was wild. Bill had us load 9 different cameras in the changing bag 100% by feel (Arri S, Arri SR2, Bolex, Eclair NPR, 2 Aaton, MoviCam, Panavision Gold, learning to set the loop by feel and then listening to the sound of the film as it moves through the camera. If the loop isn’t right it can scratch the film or snap the film in camera. I was one of only 2 students in the entire class that got an A that semester. Jack Green’s daughter was the other A. 🥳👍🏻

For some odd reason my Arri 16 doesn't have the white lines that define the loops. Is there a number of frames above and below the gate? Great video btw

how....how can you take the spool out. It seems they are stuck inside and I cannot take them out ! thx

Push the small button top of the metal post that spool is on - that should release it :)
