This is one of the best, if not the best, instructional videos as it relates to fishing Owens Valley/River tributaries I’ve seen. I’ve been fishing in the Sierras creeks and lakes such as Sabrina, Rockcreek, Mammoth and June Lakes for over 45 years and never knew about these sand traps. Heading up there next week so I’m gonna have to get off the payment and do some exploring how long do Ecuador. Thank you very much.

Great info as always! I thought that all trout stocking the Eastern Sierra would be suspended but I see trout stockings still scheduled for Crowley/Owens/etc on the CDFW site. I wonder where they are sourcing the fish from. The CDFW blog made it sound like there was going to be no stocking whatsoever.

Could be a mistake or they could be sourcing from somewhere else...there are a few hatcheries on the northern side of the Sierra that could still keep plants going. I'm hoping they get it fixed because there will be a large amount of fish planted once they do

Enjoyed your video. You are very correct, the sand traps are not secret places. I have fished George’s and Shepherd’s creeks for years. I always had a lot of success at Shepherd’s Creek, early in the season, I had the best fishing there during the first and second weeks of May. Just curious, have you fished Billy Lake east of Independence ?

@@TroutWest As I told we killed it at lone pine a month ago or so...heading back to lone pine next week..do they stock all the sand traps or just the 5 or so main ones? Also where is the link to the patreon site? Taking the 7 year old again so hoping to have a good day...a coach in our department said mammoth has been completely fished out..so wondering if people will head down in this area...maybe the heat keeps them away...Great video like always!

Last I heard they were still working on it but with the virus and all of that it's been slowed down. That's a lot of testing and environmental research they have to do... Basically they had to pay a bunch of people before they can make it happen.

You can't camp at the sand traps, highly illegal and they do cite people for it. There are campgrounds very close by though that are 100% good to go

I found one of them by manzanita by accident. Big bows. I had no idea what it was or why there was this pool and sand dunes that are very steep and slippery. Be careful.

There are bass lakes throughout the Owens valley. Those would be a good choice. Not spots where trout are planted.

There's no real directions...easiest way for you to not get lost is to follow the creek across the highway with google maps until you come to it. Use Sat view. Can't miss it that way.

No wilds in those sand traps.... All but one sand trap in the sierra run dry through summer. The other that doesn't dry gets real stagnant. Nothing trout wise survives through that time. Thanks for watching

Good info but a lot of good it does right now, nothing has been or will be stocked for the foreseeable future with the DFW euthanizing all of the trout at the hatcheries that supply the ES.

Just FYI... these are called "SAND TRAPS" for another reason. YOU CAN GET STUCK!! Some of these places look fine n then WHAM! you're axel deep! Cost to get out can be INSANE!! THE TOWING COMPANIES ARE CRAZY CROOKS!!
