Squeezing the frame, clothes pins and forehead are the best tips. Adding a halo, helps too. 🙂 Thank-you.

Thank you for the tips Larry. Could you make a video about how to look thinner on camera, when you do not have control over the video shoot and post production? I am occasionally filmed by national television because of my job, so they are the ones who determine what angle they use, and how to cut the footage. I am only 110 pounds, but when someone else is filming me, sometimes I look like I have a very wide face. Because I do not see what they see on the camera, I have control only for my posture and makeup. How can I make sure, that I look good on camera even though I do not control the settings?

You must find ways to trick the camera into seeing you as you really are, because they rarily do unless you know how to fool them, or are just fortunate to get some lucky shots without knowing what you're doing. Kodak had some software in their playsport camcorders from years ago that did a remarkable job at compensating for lens and perspective distortion, but Kodak suffered for it, because most people want to stick their faces into cameras and have their Iberian features stretched out to look more European.

I took a picture of myself in front of a mirror (holding camera towards mirror) and compared the result with a self portrait with a tripod at the same distance. The photo of me in the mirror looked as I would normally, but the self-portrait with tripod definitely made my appearance slightly distorted. So I wonder how come the mirror image wasn't also distorted?
@LarryBecker4 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of things going on here. 1 is that the mirror image in the mirror is what you see every single day. Any portrait from a camera will seem strange because it's the mirror image of what you're used to seeing. You might benefit from asking friends if they think things are "distorted" in the same way you do. Beyond that, you have different lenses and differing amounts of lens distortion. There's barrel distortion with most any lens under 50mm or any mobile device lens. It can be a little complicated.
@UNLVmatrix4 жыл бұрын
@@LarryBecker Interesting, thanks for the explanation! Although I haven't experimented with this, but I've often wondered whether the camera sees the mirror image as being 2- or 3-dimension. For example, action cameras only focus on the background (never blurry), so if I point an action camera into a mirror that shows an image with both a near and distant background objects, will the camera focus on the mirror as a two-dimensional image (so that both near and distant objects remain sharp) or be fooled into seeing a fake 3-dimensional image (near object blurry and distant objects sharp)? I think I would need a big mirror for this test, LOL!
@LarryBecker4 жыл бұрын
@@UNLVmatrix Ok, this gets a little camera tech nerdy… Actually, action cameras (and webcams and phone cameras) all have an aperture that can't really be changed (usually a fixed aperture), and their focus system is designed to do the best it can to have everything in focus. However, a high end camera with a changeable lens (like what pro photographers use) have adjustable aperture settings and pinpoint focus capability. With a wide aperture setting, it can throw background elements out of focus while keeping the subject (someone's face) in sharp focus.

Sheesh this is 4 YEARS LATER but I think I was looking for more advice in the “lighting” department... I know that this is how people catfish the heck outta the opposite sex on social media lol but I was wondering if there were any SUREFIRE methods.. either way good vid and you certainly did look so healthy and happy in your new body.

Gotta say thanks for this, the squeezing video trick did wonders, I'm a pretty good lookin guy but me on camera vs what I see in the mirror was just off, didn't realize I could squeeze the video and once i did I finally saw what I see in the mirror body wise. I don't even consider it cheating, I just look like my actual self now on cam and feel way less stressed about trying to lose pounds I never really needed too. Brilliant! Thank you.

I disagree with the mirror comment. I've stood next to many people during my lifetime that were looking in a mirror and they always look exactly the same... whether I'm looking at them through the mirror or face to face. Cameras DO NOT portray people accurately. It has something to do with the specific camera whether it be a camera phone or a regular one. Some people are just not photogenic... period. Thanks though.

Hi Lerry, Great Video, very helpful. Just wondering which was the application you used for converting 1080p to 720p?
@LarryBecker5 жыл бұрын
I do all my video editing in Screenflow on the Mac. I edit everything at 1080p and then export/save my MP4 video files as 720p. You don't need to convert 1080p files to 720p using a separate program since most any video editing app can downsample and save files as 720p.
