I tend to grind my teeth too but never had problems in my jaw from it but I always was experiencing a heavy chest and I remembered how much I was breathing through my mouth

I was caught in this a month ago and it was depressing,OMG. This happened after I tried hitting notes in Alan walker diamond heart song, true I did. Am a coloratura contralto with a ringing voice The next I faced the music, I've never imagined jaws can be that mad. I couldn't sing, I realized I had a tight jaw, I'd overstretched my jaw therefore straining my voice. That jaw forced me to silence after trying to sing again though low vocals and still being punished by more pain. After trying gentle massage exercises, I still tried to sing low vocals cause I was freaked out thought I'd never sing again, that's when the anger or my muscles moved to my neck, I had to stop. I have been hardly singing, except for shorter periods after prepping my voice. I'd love to do relative vocal rest because I can't handle losing my singing voice. I'd love to keep up with jaw exercises above.

Thank you Katarina for all your useful and professional advice (the phonation ones are helping my voice)! I also got a mouth guard but I find I clench down on it, therefore not solving the TMJ. Your tip on how to relax the jaw was just what I needed. I woke up today with more relaxed masseter muscles. Thank you! Also, I think I tend to put a lot (too much?) pressure with my tongue on my upper front teeth and think my bite is changing. Do you have a tip about that? Thank you

The exercise I would recommend is similar to relaxing your jaw. First, become aware where you place your tongue when resting - is it too much forward that it presses on the front teeth or is it really up touching the roof of your mouth (where it is recommended to be). If not, just keep checking your position and retraining the habitual position of your tongue.

Thank you so much again Katarina! I will do that.

Hi Katarina...trismus after having all 4 wisdom teeth removed (both lower impacted and 1 needed to be sectioned, tops were erupted and straight extraction). I am having trouble opening more than 1.5 - 2 finger-width wide. i am at 72hr post procedure. Suggestions for remedial massage?

Hi Katerina, I make videos and podcasts, and when I do, I get throat pain after talking for only 5 minutes. It feels scratchy and strained. I try to be more enthusiastic, animated and loud in the videos but it causes my throat to hurt. I never get pain just talking in my day to day life though. What would be the reason for this and how would it be fixed?

Thank you for sharing. This is very common and you are definitely not alone. Two things that can be happening: 1. you are using your voice in a way that is more than what your voice is used to or can handle at this time (basically overwork in terms of time) - the solution would be improving stamina and endurance by regular vocal exercises that reflect what you do with your voice during podcasts - so not just any exercise for the sake of doing exercises, 2. you are using your voice with more force, air pressure, muscle work etc. than what your voice can handle (this is more of a technique issue) - the solution would be improving your awareness of what you are doing during your podcast and adjusting the technique to a more efficient way of speaking. In my experience, most clients I work with have a combination of both. Does this make sense?

@@healthyvoicetips Thanks, do you have any practical tips on how to speak properly?
@TheBLGL2 жыл бұрын
@@GregoryCampbellSwag I have muscle tension dysphonia (MTD). It’s miserable. It is good you are getting help on vocal hygiene now, I would hate for you to end up like me. I’m in speech therapy, and use Katarina’s videos to do my at home practice and to expand on what I’ve learned (thanks Katarina!). The things I’ve been told to do is straw phonation, especially when you’re voice is tired. Lip trills help to loosen up your muscles to warm up. I’m also working on easy onset and resonance (especially speaking through the “mask”). I’d look through her videos, looking for some of those keywords. If I would’ve just known what to look for I could’ve saved myself thousands of dollars (in medical copays and lost wages), so I hope this helps! Also, vocal warm up is important if you have a job where you rely on your voice, at least that’s what I’ve been told.

Thanks for the great video! My issue is i push my jaw back and to the right when I talk, very asymmetrical. So do I just practice talking and doing the opposite? i’ll look so stupid lol

Very informative as always, Thank you for the video! I have some twitching muscles (cheeks muscles) when I try to talk with high pitch. It's something that my Speech Therapist didn't spot in my latest session. But it makes me uncomfortable.

I find my facial muscles twitch when I am very tired and stressed or have had too many social interactions (anxiety). Scrunching my face hard and then relaxing it (in private of course!) while breathing deeply helps.

I feel a lot of fear, it is very difficult to speak, the throat is tight, the sound does not come out, and when I speak, I speak as if I am crying
@healthyvoicetips10 ай бұрын
I am sorry to hear that you are feeling fearful about speaking. I just want to let you know that fear is is most likely the fuel for tension. I suggest that you speak to a voice professional and address your worries and fear. It may help you start the healing process.
