How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days is awkward and fun, in that kind of tough to watch but ultimately pretty cool kind of way. We had a great time making this movie commentary and reaction video for a surprisingly fun and classic rom com

A lot of the crazy stuff Kate Hudson was doing was actually improvised. Most notably, "You think I'm some sort of... MENTAL PERSON!" And plastering Matthew McConaughey with kisses. This is why McConaughey looks genuinely surprised.

This has always been my favorite rom com because they're both doing messed up stuff to the other. It feels more even that way vs something like 10 Things I Hate About You or She's All That. I'm not ragging on those movies but I can always watch this one without thinking about the moral implications because they're both messing with each other.
@nuffyj8614

I always thought Ben's con was worse than Andi's. He was legit playing with her emotions -- trying to make her fall in love regardless of how he felt; odds were after the 10 days were up, he'd break up with her after working so hard to make her love him -- but if Andi had done this without him having a bet going to keep him in it, he would have left/ghosted her and just had a wild story to tell his friends. I understand why they were both mad at the end, since they felt duped and had both caught the feels, but just with the optics of where they started, Ben's bet is worse.
@WarmLittleDiamond90
@WarmLittleDiamond90 Жыл бұрын
For real. I don't get how this isn't very obvious. Someone trying to make you literally love them for a bet is a lot worse than someone being deliberately annoying so that you'll dump them for an article.
@harley69
@harley69 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know man, making someone scared for their well being by doing insane things like gas light them and change their whole life around is pretty serious. Andi was doing and saying the type of stuff that makes people scared to break up with people.
@sandnin1
@sandnin1 11 ай бұрын
Typical that you would downplay Andi's actions.
@heyitsmira17
@heyitsmira17 11 ай бұрын
The point of the movie is that both were doing a horrible thing and manipulating someone just to get a promotion. His bet was more manipulative, but her bet would deliberately expose him at the end of the 10 days, not to mention that she was also verymanipulative herself. Both were in the wrong and later were hypocrites about while calling the other one out for it. They were on the same level.
@nuffyj8614
@nuffyj8614 11 ай бұрын
How would she expose him? She wouldn’t have named him in the article, and he and his friends aren’t exactly the target audience for the magazine - they would have left each others’ lives with just memories and stories to tell their friends. Obviously there was no need for her to actually go through and do all of this to write her article, so I’m not saying she’s blameless or anything, but if it had been any other guy, he would have left way before, and she wouldn’t have escalated as far. And it’s not like she was intending on being a scary stalker afterward. When he came *close* to breaking it off, she even tried to finish it for him to just leave, but then he came back because of his bet that he wasn’t willing to give up on (and at that point, do you think he was planning to stay with her after the gala?). Her goal was literally to get him to leave, so they could go back to their separate lives. I still think that intentionally trying to play with someone’s emotions to make them love you no matter your feelings for them is more egregious than being excessively annoying as an experiment to see how long someone, who could very easily leave the situation, will put up with it - that’s still not a good thing to do, but when weighed on the scales, they’re not equal.
@videohistory722
@videohistory722 Жыл бұрын
There was an estimated $14,200,000 worth of jewels lent to the film for the gala scene. The dress Andie wears was designed around the 84-carat yellow diamond pendant. It was designed by fashion designer Dina Bar-El. Andies necklace wears a Harry Winston diamond wreath necklace with an 84-carat yellow diamond pendant (called the "Isadora") attached, valued at approximately $5,280,000 and a pair of 5-carat radiant cut yellow diamond stud earrings worth approximately $125,000. Lana's dress is by Chanel, and her diamond tiara is real.

Romcoms give people a reader’s digest version of most professions, but working in media women’s/fashion magazines can and do branch out to heavier topics. Teen Vogue and Bustle immediately come to mind, Andie’s editor just doesn’t want to. And in this context it wasn’t unreasonable to take Lana at her word when she said if she wrote a must-read column she could write, “whatever you want.”

One thing I never got with this movie is why she couldn’t test her theories on losing a guy and make up the article if it didn’t work. This was 2003? No social media back then to expose the lie to the public. She can easily come clean to him after only 10 days. Or even better, after the first night and you have a genuine connection, change tact and say, ‘Hey, my boss wants me to write an article about what turns a guy off. Can I pick your brain?’ It’s a good icebreaker.

the thing about this movie a lot of people seem to miss is that they are being equally horrible. everyone is like “i feel so bad for him, she’s torturing him” and that’s true but he doesn’t have to put up with it. he’s using her for his own selfish reasons as well. that’s the delight of it. they both had selfish intentions and they’re both getting a little bit of karma for it. honestly, getting stuck with andi is his best case scenario, otherwise he would’ve been manipulating some guileless woman who thought she was earnestly falling for him and that would’ve been horrible to watch rather than goofily cringey.

It's crazy that I just (re)watched this a couple days ago, and now you drop this. P.S. I say (re) because I'm pretty sure I'd seen it before, but didn't remember it. I think I recognized the title and basic premise, and two scenes were familiar to me, but other than that it was all fresh.

Yeah I really love this movie, think it’s hilarious and it’s just a comfort one for me but I do think I’d of liked the ending more if they had their little song battle, chase outside then after the guy interrupts and they yell they kinda just laugh about it and are like wtf we’re being ridiculous

I agree that realistically they’d both be laughing about it which is predictably what’ll happen since they can just look back and laugh about it after actually getting together. They’re just mad at each other bc they love each other ig cause why else would they care?

Lol there’s always gotta be a conflict after they’ve both fucked up and fallen for each other before the actual happy ending like you’d think they’d skip the whole “conflict” of finding out they’re using each other bc they know they’re both being hypocritical so they really can’t be mad at one another since they’re perfect together lol
