I found I lost most of my weight while in Japan by running from one train platform to another. Also I believe Tokyo has the most stairs to climb than any other large metropolitan area I have ever visited. The escalators always seem to go down but hardly ever up. I lost a little over twelve pounds in the two weeks I stayed in Tokyo. I need to return so I can lose some more weight.

Coming from an Italian family, I find it unutterably laughable that you were not introduced to olive oil and vinegar salad dressing sooner. Italians pretty much drink that stuff from baby bottles straight outa the womb. Aside from that, I'm thoroughly impressed with your progress. When you said 10kg I laughed, but I really think you have the ability to do it. Also I hope you do because your dry British humor is right up my alley.

Yeah, Britain has some really great traditional food (believe it or not), but a really terrible food culture. Most parents don't know how to cook, and so they don't teach their kids, and they buy crappy tasteless junk food instead of making something decent. In school I got taught 'food technology' instead of cooking. Luckily my mother got me and my brother to cook 2 nights a week, so I learned to love good food and cooking early on.

One day, I'm going to go to Italy and drink olive oil out of wombs, like a true Italian. But I definitely agree with tsp on schools. My food classes were absolutely awful. A horrid fat lady with a nasal voice taught it, and she knew nothing of hygiene - she would dip her fingers into food to sample it. Her recipes were bland and boring, and she'd get terribly upset if anyone deviated from them. On one occasion, she made the class prepare toast with tomato sauce that might have been heinz ketchup, and made us review the toasts. I would disagree with the most parents part. It's cliche, but that's an example of bad parenting among some of the particularly poor working class - this way of treating children as pets, rather than future adults. The children don't want to learn how to cook, because they've been raised in an environment that beats into their head that they are stupid, and that if they went into the kitchen, they'd start a fire. I will freely admit this opinion is coloured by studying cycles of domestic violence, and the inability of parents to trust their children with any sort of responsibility and retain control on things they are relied upon for.

Just found your channel and really enjoying the few videos I watched :) It's nice to see how you're making progress in living in Japan and having conversations in both English and Japanese with your Japanese friends! I lived in Kyoto for half a year but found it really difficult to meet people and as such led quite a bit of a sheltered life there and barely learned any Japanese. Your videos give me a bit of hope for the future. I might try again.

Hey man your vids about Japan are awesome. I am in a similar situation, I live in Bangkok, Thailand am a teacher and similar age to you and was 15kg overweight. I tried everything but the 7/11 shops were just so difficult to resist. I was advised about prepping meals for the week to avoid being lazy about cooking. Buy about 30 small tupperware containers then make all your meals on Sunday, put them in the fridge/freezer, microwave and eat them about 4-5 times a day throughout the week. Always have a mix of protein, veg and carb in each container and try and do some weights or running every day after working. After 2 weeks I lost 6kg. No harm in trying right?

You wanna pimp your salad game ? sunflower seeds into a hot frying pan, muschrooms diced, a teaspoon of bacon (optional), season with balsamico vinegar and oil right in the pan >pour hot over salad. literally takes about 2-4 min to do and is amazing, you can also just add fried fish or whatever else you feel like to it. The rice diet alone should make you loose weight, while I was over there I stuffed my face with everything edible (aside from fastfood) and still lost weight, so did most of my friends.Stick to original japanese foods, they tend to be amazingly low fat and low on Carbohydrate which is mainly what causes weight gain also the snacks in between and late in the evening are much more likely to increase your weight and not the breakfast.

Nuuu, breakfast is the worst meal to skip! It gets your metabolism going for the whole day and sets the energy. Fruit and oatmeal is some of the best stuff you can have for breakfast xP For weight loss (actually for anybody wanting to be healthy) it's best to eat a big dinner 4-5 hours before you go to bed. gooood lucckk I'm on the same boat as you! I wanna lose weight before I go to Japan so I can actually go shopping haha
@gillianorley
@gillianorley 9 жыл бұрын
That whole idea about breakfast getting your metabolism going is flawed. You can easily go 20 hours between meals. Otherwise, believe it or not, adding a bit of REAL butter to your morning coffee does help keep you going. Preferably butter from grass fed cows such as Kerrygold Irish butter. Sounds crazy, but it tastes quite good and provides a good dose of heathy fat for energy without filling up too much. Only about 100 calories.

uh, the best best possible way to lose weight is to burn more than you intake. This is best done with veggies cuz they make you full a lot faster than most foods, but they are pure energy and cant be stored into fat as easily. It's not complicated that's been a fact throughout history xP

Well, it could be harder to lose weight for more things: 1st: You're not that fat, so training might burn fat, but in addition grow the muscle, which weights more than fat; 2nd: You drink lots of water (tea, liquids), so I think You've lost much more weight up until now, but it's just a water weight, which is building up in Your body - try to use less salt, which retains the water. I guess it is possible to see the effect in a week or so. The most important thing for You is to enjoy this lifestyle. Also, awesome video as usual, thanks for that! Good luck!

There's one mistake I'd like to address, and that's the muscle weighs more than fat part. Muscle and fat weigh the same. If I were to ask what weighed more, a kilogram of lead or a kilogram of straw, the answer would be "they weigh the same". The problem is the following: a pound of fat takes up 4 times as much space as a pound of muscle. Other than that, I agree with the water weight loss, which is why the first one or two weeks usually have decent results. Something that helped me lose 15Kg in 2 months was simply cutting the amount on my plate in half and drinking more water, no exercise whatsoever because I'm a lazy bastard, in case you want to give that a try too (I'm pretty sure that I'll give your method a try once I'm done with my vocational studies). I think it's possible to lose the rest of the weight in 8 weeks, good luck man!

generationutena I like to say "Weight is just a number" because of the reasons you stated. Someone can be 250lbs of pure muscle or pure blubber, be built like a brick wall or like a twig, therefore what matters is not how much you weigh, but where that weight comes from. Of course, there's toning and bulking exercises, which will either slow down your weight loss or even make you gain weight (which I believe you have mentioned), one will shed fat while keeping your muscle intact, the other will build muscle while also getting rid of some fat or none at all. In the end it all comes down to how healthy you are I guess.

Actually he's probably not gaining much muscle since he has to watch his calorie intake. Also, you will also burn off the muscle you currently have when running or exercising if you don't take in enough protein. calories, and carbs. P.S. Abroad in Japan, if you read this, eating DIETARY Fiber will help you lose weight because it'll make you feel fuller so you'll eat fewer calories. Just something you can try out if you want. Good luck!! :)

The initial weight you lost probably wasn't real weight lose but rather water weight and the weight of the food in your stomach. You're eating less so those weights went down. This week i'm thinking that was real weight loss. You got rid of the excess and now it's time to get rid of the excess fat build up. My suggestion is take in less carbs. The weight you want to lose is the fat. Carbs are your energy source. When you have too much energy in your body it goes to storage aka fat. This may or may not help but monosaccharides are used first, then disaccharides, the starches. I recommend to eat less monosaccharides and more starch. Starch is basically a polysaccharide and takes more effort from your body to break apart into monosaccharides. This means that your body is using energy to get energy in return you're taking in less excess. Disaccharides are better than monosaccharides but not amazing. This doesn't mean you gorge your self on starches though. If you do start eating more starches you would still need to diet. Here's a website that has some examples: food.oregonstate.edu/learn/carbohydrate.html I would look into this more though because i'm not an expert but there are many websites that could be helpful: www.livestrong.com/article/540827-monosaccharides-polysaccharides/ authoritynutrition.com/low-carb-diet-meal-plan-and-menu/ authoritynutrition.com/15-reasons-not-losing-weight-on-a-low-carb-diet/

Cut all traces of caffeine out of your diet COMPLETELY. Just drink water, I know it sound impossible but it boosts our metabolism as opposed to caffeine which slows it down.
@robertryan3571

Good advice! Caffeine is also highly toxic (so much so that industrial workers who produce it must wear protective suites--really!) and significantly raises blood-pressure. I used to drink a lot of Diet Coke and had high blood-pressure; when I switched to Caffeine-Free Diet Coke it fell significantly.

This. He has to read this. Breakfast > Dinner You better go to bed with not much food in your stomach. If you're feeling the need of eating something as snack, do yourself some salad. But not right before your sleep. Else water/tea helps ofc. And you need a proper breakfast so you'll feel better in the morning too. BTW: Zero Calories tea.. Does that have artificial sweeteners in it?! It's quite unhealty if it has, just saying.
@adamax08
@adamax08 9 жыл бұрын
Luniii737 Yep. Most of the time, those "zero calories" drinks have sweeteners in it. Just like 0% fat jogurt. The companies promote it as healthy but in reality that stuff is full with sugar = calories
@Luniii737
@Luniii737 9 жыл бұрын
adamax08 In reality there are several ARTIFICIAL sweeteners in it = no calories but sweet. There is some chemical shit in here that lets your mouth say that it's sweet but in reality it's not with real sugar. It's pure chemical trash that messes up with your body even faster than sugar the more you drink of this stuff. But marketing is so big, that people don't know about this and the amount of diet softdrinks they take into is just.. Well.. When they die with 35 cuz of cancer then it's quite high likely that these drinks caused that.
