After 12 months of consistant use of my CPAP and with little diet change, I lost 92 pounds. The amount of energy I now have, along with not having to carry around so much extra weight, just makes it easier. CPAP saved my life as a 36 year old man. It took me a few weeks to get use to the mask but I got there. Just don't fight it. I honestly cannot imaging sleeping without it now. You will feel so much better over time.

Cheers for this, I been tryin to find out about "what are the alternatives to a cpap machine?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - letochy fast apnea plan - (do a google search ) ? It is a good one of a kind product for discovering how to get rid of sleep apnea without the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my work buddy got cool success with it.

I`m having this difficulty with my husband for over 23 years and we tried to treat the condition with laser surgery but still there`s no good until our buddy suggested us this particular snoring treatment t.co/YQt06Q9Wam Needless to say I hurried online and acquired a duplicate. The program really does work!! It`s safe easy to exercise and proved extremely effective. .

Hmm, I have trouble keeping the thing on my face and sealed. It's just so uncomfortable to wear to sleep. I feel like I'm wasting my machine. Since you lost all that weight now, do you still have sleep apnea? I haven't really used my machine.. and I lost 61 lbs over 7 mos of diet change. will probably be more effective if I add it to the mix I'm guessing... ?

I was fatigued and stressed and had bad headaches every morning. I would wake up at least 6 times a night (that I was aware of). I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and after about 4-5 weeks of adjusting to the mask and getting up to 4 hours per night with the CPAP, I was finally able to lose weight after more than 3 years of not being able. This has been life changing for me!

Great advice. So many people think your nuts when you suggest a sleep study. 4 years now with a CPAP. I was on the path to death. 120 events per hour. They said it was beyond extreme. Saved my life completely. Resmed Airsense 10, with the P10 pillows. I wish there was more people like you spreading awareness on this potentially deadly health problem.

I was diagnosed this week with severe sleep apnea, 71 episodes per hour, my oxygen dropped to 64%…waiting for my machine any day now, I thought I was tired all the time because I was a parent…ladies I found out post menopause our risk of developing sleep apnea increases to equal the rate of men…I’m looking forward to feeling better and rested.

Great video! After 15 years of suspected sleep apnea, I finally got off my butt and had a sleep study done. My score was ~45 events per/hour. Last night was my first time using my CPAP (ResMed Air Sense 10 with heated tube) and the results were great. My nasal mask fit perfectly and worked well. I have a Fitbit that records sleeping habits and I was getting 3-5 hours of very disturbed sleep on average and last night I slept through the whole night, 11 hours! Even better, I made it without the typical bathroom break or two in the middle of the night. I'm typically a mouth breather because of congestion and was concerned about being able to use a nose mask, but it worked great and I didn't have the typical stuffy nose when I woke up. I think I really needed a humidifier a long time ago, so this fixes that! To my surprise, my alarm woke me up today. I'm always awake before my alarm, so this was something very new. Anyway, sorry for the ramble, but I'm really happy that I'm on the road to recovery. Thanks for this very informative video. :thumbs up: /subscribed

tscooter22 I just got air sense 10 last Thursday used it one hour first and 3 night, second 5 , then lost a piece couldn’t use it Sunday. Went got new full mask as I breath through mouth most cause my nostrils inflammation so bad with mask and lying down. And still awake tonight at 3:30 a.m. but had it on few hours. Frustrated. I’d prob love nasal pillow but I can’t breath out of nose. Recent issue when lying down. Congrats to you on ur success. Wish I had ur luck. Any opinions?

My nose might be stuffed up on one side before putting the CPAP on but after 20 minutes or so, the humidity from the CPAP starts clearing it up. If I'm REALLY stuffed up I use a bit of Nasal saline spray to help clear things up a bit. I get along best with the nasal pillow mask now. I toss and turn a lot and the regular nasal mask that covered my whole nose tended to leak a lot when sleeping on my side. I'd imagine a whole face mask would be even worse unless you sleep on your back most of the time. I don't know how your doctor set your CPAP up, but mine is set to go from ~4-20 (I forget exactly) so it starts out slowly and steps up as time goes along. It's possible they set yours up to a fixed pressure. My point being, as the pressure goes up, the easier it is for me to breathe through my nose. Whatever you end up with, good luck! It seems like everyone has a little trouble figuring out what type of mask works best for them. The CPAP store where I bought mine had a no questions asked exchange police on masks.

I must have been suffering most of my life but all my complaints of extreme tiredness, mood swings, depression were put down to depression alone. I now know different! Everything changed, and even now I am over 60, I have so much energy, don't fall asleep all the time and I ENJOY life!

I'm in tears watching this! I have gained over 100 lbs in 3 years from sleep apnea and several hospital stays with pneumonia/asthma treated by too much prednisone. It has contributed to so many body/brain problems due to sleep deprivation and inability to sleep and heal. I have Aged, lost my looks - I was no beauty, but I was pretty. My memory is shot. I really have to push thru everyday. You explained everything so well. I just had my 2nd sleep study and I wake up every 15 seconds and stop breathing up to 2 minutes. On video it looks like I am DEAD for those minutes, but then I come to. I've had sleep apnea for 10 yrs now. I do not do well with my CPAP - getting a BiPAP soon due to low oxygen to my brain. I have an oxygen generator in my room. I use it less and less now that I am losing weight again. I just hit the 300 lb mark 3 months ago and it scared me to death. If I do not die from sleep apnea/injury to myself (narcolepsy), I will Stroke or die from obesity. Since November last year I have lost 31 lbs and on my way to lose MORE. My lungs do not EXPEL my CO2 out enough so I hold onto CO2 toxins - when you do not expel your CO2, you gain/retail weight. If I had the ability to run I'd lose weight fast - but I need to focus on walking first. I have been in ICU 3x now - last time they wanted to give me a tracheotomy while I was knocked out to be able to breath better. I can't work, I am depressed, anxious, scared to sleep, can't focus, I'm on permanent SSI disability, can't communicate like normal - its horrible! I'm going to be 47 and I am a young grandma to an awesome Granddaughter. I can't be active enough for her to watch her more then 1 day a week. I have to keep going - my daughter means to much to me to keep letting her down or worrying her. She has been my medical Advocate, Bless her. I just want to feel Free of this. If anyone really knew how this was affecting me in my daily life they'd be shocked. The see my bruises, witness me knocking out; but if they saw me falling to me knees, crashing into furniture and busting ribs, smacking my face and teeth into my laptop from exhaustion - it would make them cry; it sure makes me cry - but I give everyone else a little laugh. . Thank u for your site - I'm going to share it with all I can. I have a wonderful Pulmonary/Sleep doctor- who is my new life savor. THANK YOU! You changed my Life tonight.

I found out I had sleep apnea when I volunteered for a research study. I had no idea prior to this but was exhausted ALL THE TIME with severe brain fog, I never could figure out why! I did a proper in-lab sleep study and was diagnosed with REM-related OSA (& parasomnia, I dream-enact & sleep talk) with desaturated to 77% and 75 episodes/hr during REM. I started CPAP right away (followed by titration sleep study). SO MUCH DIFFERENCE!! No more fatigue (zero!) and my mental clarity has returned! I never thought I could wear the mask (I have nasal mask) but it's surprisingly comfortable. No weight loss yet but it's just the beginning of my journey. If you think you have sleep apnea, please do not hesitate to be assessed, it really does change your life for the better.

I just discovered this! Excellent info. Thank you. I was told mine is central and ended up on oxygen because my doc wanted me to go for a 2nd sleep study & the ins. said no. On the phone talking with doc (pulmanologist) when he found out I already had heart issues he was hot! He had said, "They (ins) may deny me putting you back in a 2nd sleep study but they won't deny me doing this. I will fight them!" Thirty minutes later American Home Patient was at my door with an oxygen concentrator , it's tubing, canulas and instructions. As you can imagine my sleep then was SO very much better! I sleep w/an oximeter (ring) that is connected via bluetooth to my phone. First my "ox" will buzz and then the phone alarm will go off when pulse or O2 levels step outside of set parameters. My levels are generally 97 & 98. Sometimes 99, sometimes 95 or 96. When first detected I was in the hospital for something else and the nurses asked me if I was aware. I wasn't. They said it dropped to 60%. I don't snore and am a (R) side sleeper.

Hi...in the past few months I have two sleep studies both indicated that I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea but I know my body and I strongly feel I have Central Apnea mainly because I hardly snore and I sleep on my sides and I wake up gasping for air. I have requested oxygen but my doctors are hesitant to give it to me. I don't know why. Two weeks ago I landed in the hospital for kidney stones and they gave me oxygen and I slept better in 3 hrs than in years. I just don't know what to do now.

Watching this video and reading the comments has given me a new outlook on life. I've gotten heavier as I got older and my wife told me I started snoring about 10 years ago. The last 8 or so years, I've been depressed, angry, anxious, and more forgetful than I've ever been. I started nodding off at work, on the road, watching TV, you name it. I finally took a sleep study about a month ago and found out I'm having 63.7 episodes per hour and my oxygen levels dip to 55% sometimes. I'm awaiting my CPAP machine and hope to GOD that it will give me my life back. Your comments give me hope. Keep up the good work on getting the word out.

I have just been diagnosed with sleep apnea and have ordered the CPAP machine. I don't want to wear the mask but I realize that I must at least try to and hope that it does help me. I am about 20 pounds overweight and have had difficulty loosing weight so it is comforting to know that sleep apnea might have contributed to that problem. Thank you for posting this video; it was very helpful for me. You are the kind of lovely doctor everyone hopes they will get as their GP but seldom do.

Actually for me I never had any issues with sleeping or even snoring until I put on 80 pounds. The last 30 or so pounds is what set off OSA for me. So in my case it wasn't OSA that caused me to gain weight but the other way around. I wasn't taught as a young child how to eat a healthy diet so as a result I have lived on a processed food diet most of my life and it has turned more towards emotional eating now as an adult. It's crazy how sugar and carbs can increase our dopamine & serotonin levels and for me due to feeling so low and negative my body began to crave that stuff constantly as a way to elevate my mood. There are so many variables to what can cause someone to have OSA and I think mine started due to emotional trauma that resulted in me eating too much of the wrong foods to elevate my extremely low and depressing mood thus causing me to gain a lot of weight over the course of about 6 yrs therefore contributing to me developing OSA. Now if I can just train myself to eat a more healthier diet and not give into my desires for the junk food, then I can begin the journey of losing weight and eventually factoring in some exercise as my energy levels improve from eating the things my body needs and therefore lose enough weight to reverse the OSA thus helping me get back down to a healthy weight. The sad reality for me was allowing my flesh to control my desires instead of allowing the Spirit of God to take control which would have prevented all of this in the first place. I'm sorry but there is no way I can afford to pay $300.00 up front for a machine and then $80.00/mth to rent the machine. I mean seriously??????? What the heck is wrong with insurance companies?!?!?!?!? I tell you their love for money is costing the lives of so many people every year and it just makes me sick ugh!!!

Great video! I sometimes encounter patients who refuse therapy, thinking that if they "just lose the weight" their sleep disorder will be cured. They don't realize that sleep apnea is a large part of why they're overweight in the first place. Control the sleep apnea first, reap the benefits of exercise later. Your body can't efficiently recover from a work-out if you're getting poor quality sleep.

I was diagnosed with very severe sleep apnea back in July (my CPAP treatment began in mid August because of a delay with the insurance company). I was diagnosed as having 167 apneas an hour, the highest the hospital sleep center had ever recorded. The dr there told me if I had not been diagnosed when I was, I would have probably died in my sleep in a few weeks. Five yrs ago after a severe exercise related injury that caused arthritis in my spine, shoulders, and knees, I began gaining weight bc I couldn't exercise anymore. My sleep apnea had actually begun a few yrs before (my dr thinks), but it was still mild. Toward the end (this yr), ut became very severe; I had frightening nightmares, bedwetting, falling sound asleep in midday and sleeping until the next day, my appetite went even more crazy, I gained weight like mad. When I began CPAP therapy in mid August I weighed 370 lbs. I am now 320 lbs through no effort of my own! CPAP evidently regulated my appetite hormones (ghrelin, leptin and cortisol) and I've lost my taste for most carbs, for anything sweet (even artificial sweeteners!), and I'm not craving food like I was. I have developed an odd craving for fresh cranberries right out of the bag, lemon water, and a few foods from my childhood like spinach and grilled chicken. The weight is coming off without any effort on my part, even without exercise. I have so far dropped from a size 4x on the top to a L sometimes 1x. Most of my weight loss seems to be in the upper body so far. CPAP saved my life in so many ways...my inbtraocular eye pressure went down to normal, my blood sugars normalized, so many great things happening!

I wish my Dr. were as thorough and caring as you. I complained of being excessively tired, anxiety, depression, couldn't lose weight, high blood pressure etc. She never mentioned a sleep test but thought vitamin B12 injections would help. Only when I heard a lady on TV describe symptoms she was having that were similar to mine. Once she was diagnosed and treated for sleep apnea she was cured of her symptoms. I demanded a sleep study the moment I finished watching her program. I would have never guessed I had sleep apnea but after being tested I was diagnosed as having a pretty severe case of it. You are 100% right that everyone with these systems need to be given a sleep study. Whoever has these symptoms must do themselves a favor and request a sleep study. You'll be glad you did. If you're diagnosed with sleep apnea you can address it, if you don't have sleep apnea you'll be able to check that off your list and find out the cause of your symptoms. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this.

Great video. I’m fresh off a sleep study (had it two weeks ago), after months of my wife telling (and nagging lol) me to get it done. I had 29.8 apnea occurrences an hour, so borderline severe. Tonight will by my fourth night on the machine. I’m hoping that weight loss will be much easier now. I’m six feet tall and about 265 lbs. I’m hoping to get down to about 200. I lift weights, do a decent amount of cardio training, and I am a firefighter. It’s an uphill battle to lose weight with sleep apnea and the accompanying chronically high cortisol. Your Body wants to hold onto everything like the Dr said in this video, and on top of that, being in too much of a calorie deficit causes your Body to produce cortisol, so you’re stuck in a catch 22. So I’m hoping for continual body fat loss, more energy/less fatigue, more testosterone and less cortisol and estrogen, more get up and get it done zeal for God and the important people and things in my life, more mental clarity, focus and less brain fog and distracted thoughts, the ability to complete tasks without getting bored or sidetracked, more uhh energy and gusto in the bedroom with my wife etc. Any and all improvements in these areas of my life are welcomed and appreciated!

I had to get a CPAP machine,,,and had a hard time getting use to it,,and it sat for months beside my bed,,...While talking to a guy at a party one night..we were talking about apnea,,,and I mentioned I can't get use to mine,,,He unbuttoned his shirt and said,,,get use to it,,or get in line for a heart transplant,,,,,,sleep apnea had damaged his heart to the point of needing a heart transplant,,,and said,,,Its bad when you are in the hospital...close to dying and if someone does not die,,,so you can have a heart,,then you are going to die,,,and its really hard on your body to take the anti rejection drugs...That night,,,,and its been 12 to 13 years later...I use it every night,,and do feel soooo much better,,

Just wondering...how bad is your sleep apnea? What was your AHI? ResMed makes the Air Sense 10 Auto. If you don't have sleep apnea too bad, it does an auto ramp where it kicks up and down only as it detects apneas and you don't have a full stream of air constantly blowing like CPAP. It is an APAP I think. The P10 nasal pillow mask is usually said to be one of the most comfortable to most people and isn't as bad as the full face masks.
@KirieHimuro100

I have the ResMed Air Sense 10 Auto for her version for my moderate sleep apnea (AHI 22). It's designed for female breathing patterns and apnea which tend to be shorter in duration than men. The pressure ranges between a prescribed number. Mine is 4-10. 95% of the time, my pressure is at 8. After 2 weeks, my AHI has dropped to 2. The nasal pillows are nice and touch very little of the face. The insides of my nose hurt a little each morning, but goes away after an hour.

High blood pressure, short tempered, having a light stroke, unregular heartrates, 10 different drug each day and after all being reseached by a specialist getting a sleepstudy . I never snore so nobody though that this could be the case because i'm always sleeping on my stomage. Now i'm getting a cpap device. After alle those years. I could be dead by now. I have been on a CPAP machine since 1995. The device saved my life. Prior to using the CPAP, I would fall asleep on the couch right after dinner, get up several times during the night to go to the bathroom. All changed when I went on the CPAP machine. I have recommended use to many people. Just do it .

Just wanted to say how important is that to not judge people so easily, i was judged as lazy and running from work all my life, by my own family and main care givers mostly, and have been struggling with weight loss since I remember, the shame, the idea of something is wrong with me and that is my fault lives with me still at this time that i have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Some people are lucky they have a great anatomy to sleep well and because of that all the other things on their life gets in order, some people like us, our genetics make it difficult to breath at nights and that’s not our fault. So ai hope people become less judgmental and more compassionate especially when they don’t understand why someone is weird in a certain way. ❤️

I'm female, aged 65 and just been diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea (anywhere between 30-60 times an hour). It is still shocking to me - but makes perfect sense too - the bit about craving carbs which I've been doing increasingly lately). I've been snoring for over 15 years and found it impossible to lose weight, weight going up each year. Trouble is I'm a mouth breather and with the nose pillow, my open mouth means I swallow air (with all the consequences of that!) I've used a chin strap, but still managed to wake swallowing air. Even with the machine, I'm having 9 apnoeas an hour. Dr has now increased pressure to fix this. I know this is a life/death thing, I just need to find a way to adjust. My doctor will consider a full face mask if the trial of chin strap and pillow mask is unsuccessful. By the way, having sleep apnoea is very expensive! Thank you for explaining this so well Doctor!

One thing I see often is mouth leakage and dry mouth concerns. Tricks, I have read. Cut in half a facial tissue and place between lips. Use soft medical tape on lips (there are specific use tapes sold, but, others give a variety of what they've tried). I use a hybrid nasal cushion face mask that helps when I have a cold/clogged nasal passage). Humid and heated air tube helps me breathe through my nose with very little desire to open my mouth.

I thought I'd have trouble -but i Didn't! I was so sleep deprived and knew I was being watched over by the techs. I Gave it to God and I knocked out within 10 minutes. I have broken ribs, smacked my teeth thru my lip, fallen out of chairs, gotten a concussion etc etc over and over due to sleep apnea going into narcolepsy - but its pure sleep deprivation. It's taken time from me and my family/grandchild. It makes me so upset that I can't trust my body/brain to stay awake - even using Provigil. I am waiting to try the BiPap machine next but I doubt it will work any better then the Cpap. I need the implant "Inspire" inside my chest (like a Pacemaker). I just can't handle sleeping with the mask and tubes. Its worth the testing - have your doctor prescribe a 5mg of Ativan to relax you for the study. You need a baseline for doctor to work from.

I know for a fact that sleep apnea and weight problems are connected... March this year I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea. Sleep study revealed that I was only breathing 1 hour and 56 minutes in that sleep study. And averaged 89 apnoeas per hour! I was horrified! At this time I weighed in at 162.5kg. Bought a CPAP machine in April. It is now October and I now weigh 145kg! I have not changed a thing with my diet or my activity level. And I still drink an average of 30 beers per week. lol. The sleep study people said that it was because I was restricting myself of so much oxygen that my metabolism basically shut down. All I can say, if you are always tired, waking up at night in pools of sweat and waking up in the morning feeling like you just went ten rounds with Mike Tyson, go and get a sleep study done ASAP! After the first night on the CPAP machine I felt like a million bucks!

I just found out that my VPAP has been set to more than double the pressure it should be. And there is a very good chance that it's been that way since I got the machine... 4 years ago! Since no one has ever checked on it, or on me since they set it up and left all those years ago. Changed the settings yesterday per new sleep study. Fingers crossed that it explains the ridiculous amount of extra weight I carry - no matter what I eat. Fantastic job on this, by the way! You seem like a great doctor, and a wonderful person! a cpap machine has changed my life! I went from being damn near narcoleptic (I was so chronicly tired all the time that I'd just randomly pass out...driving was super dangerous), having tons of nightmares (I fought falling asleep because even though I was so dang tired...sleeping was actually very frightening for me), and talking and screaming in my sleep...oh and the tossing and turning and frequently needing to get up to pee... To some very deep sleep on my cpap machine. And I sleep for hours at a time without tossing and turning...no nightmares, no screaming out in my sleep...I actively look forward to putting my mask on and falling to sleep now...sleep is no longer something I fight or fear. And dang...even if I don't get a full night of sleep...I don't walk around anymore in life feeling so sharply tired. It's amazing! I've only had my machine for 1 1/2 months...and I was really scared I wasn't going to use it because I wasn't going to like the mask and the air pressure and stuff...and it did take a couple of weeks to really start getting use to it...but I stuck with it...and dang I'm glad it's worked out so well!

Can you report a doctor for being rude? Filing a complaint against a doctor with your state's medical board is usually the first step in bringing disciplinary action against a doctor. ... The board then reviews complaints or refers them to another agency if needed. The medical board may ask to see medical records. Doctors who are rude or berate their patients deter the healing process and surely cause more harm than good. Make a report!!

I had bad sleep for about 7 years .. my head would over heat I would flip my pillow over to get it cool and needed a new pillow every 4 to 6 months because my pillow went all yellow from the heat. I went to the bathroom 3 times a night and woke up with a headache every morning. My doctor sent me for the sleep study and my oxygen levels were down to 72% at night which is dangerous, they said my throat kept closing. The CPAP changed everything, I don't get up at night to go to the bathroom and no more headaches in the morning. However after just over a year of struggling with my CPAP and 5 different masks I finally just had the Inspire surgery yesterday. They activate it after 1 month of healing so I am excited to test sleeping without a mask.

I finally got my CPAP and from the very start, all of my hallucinations, voices, and check it, i was even having violent episodes where i was start fighting my bed, but all of that stopped since i started the CPAP. I finally feel like me again. my mind is bright once again. it is a great feeling to say "i'm back". My girlfriend came into my room while i was sleeping and using CPAP. My attitude was okay, just go away so I can sleep! Of course a couple of times they had to check on whether I’d pulled the oxygen out in my sleep. I hadn’t, but was most likely was breathing through my mouth. After my sleep test I was given a nasal pillow, my attitude was yeah, like that’s going to work as I thought I was a mouth breather. My life changed when I started CPAP therapy (since 2012). I think I had sleep apnea all my life; it just got worse as I got older (54 now) and heavier. I was in good shape when I was younger (was in the USMC), my wife and kids used to tell me I stopped breathing at night and I would just ignore it and tell them I'm fine. About 9 years ago, when I started to put on the pounds (went up to 280, I'm 5'9), I was waking up every hour on the hour and had to go pee a full bladder. I started sleep walking; I couldn't figure out why I was so tired and waking up so much at night. I was falling asleep at work, had hard time to stay awake while driving and so embarrassing to fall asleep while someone was talking to me. When I went to the doctor, he originally said I had an enlarged prostate that caused me to pee so often at night. He gave me pills for prostate and after six months, I went back and told him no change and that's when he said I have sleep apnea. I did the home study (Kaiser) and it indicated that my oxygen levels at night was at 54%. Doctor said I have a severe case of sleep apnea. It was difficult to get used to the CPAP; it made feel like I was suffocating and I would yank it off at night. They finally gave me an auto-CPAP (automatically adjust pressure) and that did the trick. I sleep with it every night. I am able to dream again. I don't get up to pee during the night. I lost weight to 220. I go to the gym, lift weights again, and I even took up boxing.

I'm 44 lbs and I have the same symptoms as you. Falling asleep at work and sleepy while driving was getting bad. I noticed a problem about a month ago that when I come home at 4:00pm, I would lay down for a 30 minute nap, that would turn into 2-3hrs of sleep. I didn't feel like exercising or doing anything because I just didn't have the energy. My fiance did the sleep test (Kaiser) and she suggested that I get it. She's been on the CPAP for a month now and has more energy and sleeps great every night. I told her that I was jealous. I took the sleep test (Kaiser) and I found that I had 46 interruptions an hour. My oxygen level was at 65% which is severe. Just got my machine last night and my sleep score was 69/100 with 1.7 interruptions an hour. AMAZING!!! I have to get used to the pillow mask, but it's worth it. I just want to get some good rest and to not feel depressed, sleepy, and lethargic all of the time.

Thanks for the video. I just came from the doctor on a follow up appointment for a home study that I did. It showed that a sleep study needs to be done. Awaiting insurance approval. The results were shocking to me. I wake up about 36 times from not breathing with the longest period of not breathing 56 sec. Needless to say I am terrified to go to sleep now for fear or death and brain damage. I'll be relieved when I get the machine. I am hoping for some weight loss as well.

This video is why I finally decided to see if I have sleep apnea, and sure enough I just got subscribed an APAP machine! I was tired of feeling exhausted and struggling to lose weight. Fingers crossed that treatment will make a difference, so far I feel like I can get more done in a day without wanting to just sit and "relax"

Just found this as my dr recommend a sleep test so I'm researching it online. I'm overweight, struggling to loose weight, sleep lots, and am tired all the time. It will be interesting to see what the test results are. I didn't know the link between sleep apnea and weight issues so if I do have apnea then this is another big reason to get treated! Interesting video!

Great video! I wish I would have seen this 20 years ago. Always had trouble sleeping, never had many dreams, was diagnosed with sleep apnea thru a cheap $10 take home test, took the more involved take home test as I didn't want to spend the $800 for a in house sleep study, insurance actually covered part of it. I discovered I had complex sleep apnea, more central then obstructive, received my dreamstation and dreamware mask, what a great mask, immediately noticed the difference although it took 3 weeks to get used to it without a humidifier. After 4 months my weight is under much better control and I feel 200% better. I would not go to sleep without it.

Spot on information. I've been on a VPAP for 5 years now , definitely a big difference. My current issue now is that I have a difficult time trying to wake up. It almost seems like I'm in some sort of other dream like dimension. I know it sounds really strange, I just wondered if this is common in patients with corrected sleep apnea or could it be a symptom of something else. Thanks for the great video.

When she said "People die early" She is NOT LYING. I was diagnosed last year with Moderate SA. This was after hearing years of complaints from my sister about me gasping for air many times while I was sleeping. When I first got my machine, I just didn't take it seriously. I would wear it a month and then for months wouldn't wear it just because I feel I can get fresh air better and I just didn't feel like putting it on. Both my brother and my dad have heard me having episodes and it scared my brother who also has SA. He said it sounded like someone was strangling me. So I wear it every night now. Last month I just found out his friends Brother in Law had a heart attack and a stroke in his sleep due to years of untreated Sleep Apnea. His wife witnessed this while laying next to him. He was in his early 40's. Having untreated sleep apnea can also cause a hormonal imbalance, thyroid issues, Psuedo-tumor cerebri , severe ongoing dizziness and a host of other issues all of which I have now because of this. If you think you have it, please get treated!

Great video!! This coming from someone who felt terrible for six months and had no clue what was going on. Sleep apnea and why? 20 pounds. I am 5'10 225/230. At 200 no sleep apnea. I now use bi-pap and have not missed a night since January. If I do I feel hungover like in college except I need to work and be a father instead of laying in bed. Trust me get checked out. My blood pressure was high, I was falling asleep on highway and a miserable person. 60+ apneas an hour. Double tested and results matched. Now under 5 consistently. Anyone have questions please ask. I lived and living it. It will get better!! Btw- dieting and dropped 8 in 2 weeks. Never been so hungry in my life. Weight is a huge factor. Good luck all.

2021 Happy New Year 🎉🎉. I just found this video Jan 2nd at 1:15 a.m. I was sending a family member video's, I thought would give insight on my new CPAP journey. I got here looking up the importance of "sleeping" & weight loss. This video helped to confirm why I've been having problems with weight loss, my excessive craving for junk food for years, ( less than a month on my CPAP, my appetite has changed.) feeling short of breath, fatigue & lack of energy.(less than a month, I'm feeling better) At first I thought it was due to my not getting my Allergies shots. I'm so Thankful & Grateful to my Lord Jesus Christ, that I refuse to let my doctor"s nurse 's fear of covid-19 & their dismissal of my complaints stop me from fighting for my life. I knew something wasn't right. It wasn't in my head. I kept going back. One day she had a student who actually listened to me. At 1st I didn't want to tell her due to the 😨 FEAR of Coronavirus. I told her I've been tested for coronavirus twice and they both were "Negative". I've had some of these symptoms before covid-19. I pray 🙏 if you are reading this post, that the Lord will grant you FAVOR to receive whatever you whether it be a sleep study, CPAP machine or the right doctor. Father God intercede on this person's behalf. Make a way out of no way. Glory Hallelujah in Jesus name.. Àmen = it is so!!

Love this Video. I was on a Keto Diet for four Months strict on it. Followed all the parameters and my weight did not budge. I was eating less than 25 carbs and even was strict on Calories. I never imagined it could be the Sleep Apnea that was preventing my body from repairing. I guess I need to go get checked

Great Video..I did a home sleep test. Agree while not as comprehensive as a in-house, BUT it did give my Dr enough data to make a determination. Mine is moderate 39 AHI, on machine 110 days. And fell 1000% better. Didn’t think I could use a full mask either , but the tech suggested a Dream Wear nasal channel pillow. Tried it and never looked back. Very light does the job.

I dreaded wearing a mask, It has changed my life so much I would never consider going without. I sleep 7.5 hours straight without waking up, I don’t fall asleep on the couch or driving everything god better. I use a nasal mask, I tried the nose pillows and did not like them.

You said it right doctor. Took me 10 years to figure out what you said in 6 minutes. Wish I had known so I hadn't wasted all of these years being tired and moody and missing out on opportunities. I'm using Philips DreamStation Auto CPAP and it is a life saver.

I had a sleep study done but I couldn’t get to a normal sleep, I have a hard time falling asleep when the lights and all is turned off. I am wide awake then. So, I have to see a sleep therapist and it turns out the study did detect 30 minutes of mild sleep apnea. But I have to do it again but at home. I may just need an oral device, and I am overweight, so I want to be treated with a mouth appliance or CPAP ASAP because I’m scared now. Well, I have to have faith. Thanks so much for the video!

I am absolutely convinced that a CPAP machine has SAVED MY LIFE. I recall my sleep doctor telling me "If someone told me you passed away last night, I would NOT be surprised." He caught my attention ... I don't even take a nap without my CPAP machine on. I'm doing well on a Keto diet and have lost 50 lbs and am feeling great. If you think you have sleep apnea ... run, don't walk and get a sleep study. You can thank me later!

I'm a 68 yr old diabetic. I always fell asleep watching tv and all the other symptoms. I finally had a sleep study, was diagnosed with apnea & put on Cpap about a year ago. I have the nose cup & kept waking up with it off nut that's less common now. Had one terrifying incident. I woke with a nosebleed & blood dripping into the cup. Later found the water tank was empty. Keeping an eye on that now. I have to say tho I haven't experienced any big changes. Still tired & falling asleep all the time so I don't know what to expect.

I was on my my Phillips Dream Station. Data showed that my mask leaking. These masks wear out, and your supposed to clean them often and replace them every month. Once I solved the mask problem, I got a lot more energy - I still am not 100% - some of that may be related to diabetes and other problems.

I did the Sleep Study during the night I woke up 40 times 19 of those time I stopped Breathing. It's a matter of life and death. You'll live longer using the CPAP Machine. I believe the great Reggie White died because he didn't know he has Sleep Apnea. Sleep Apnea is hard on your heart. My CPAP setting is 18. Thank You Doctor!!

I have been a loud snorer and always tired before and was diagnosed with severe obstructed sleep apnea even my doctor said I am in the top 1 percent among the worst he had, and its true its hard to loose weight if you have sleep apnea. I never regret having a sleep study and now using a CPAP machine it really change my life. With out it I dont think I will be able to drive, the worst I have experience is when I sat down on a meeting at work I can really fall a sleep and snore in minutes thats the time I decided to have a sleep study now and immediately with in a month after using CPAP I began to loose weight, feel energized the whole day and have the best sleep after suffering whole my life with sleep apnea. I was lucky our insurance and the government support this treatment.

Excellent advice! I suffer from the exact symptom described. I am overweight with 33 BMI and I have trouble falling asleep because my oxygen drops and wakes me up. I had a sleep study done where it showed that I have a severe case of sleep apnea. I hope that cpap will help me lose weight to the point that I will not need it anymore. I also struggle with anxeity and panic attacks sometimes which I believe is related to sleep apnea. Hopefully cpap will help me get rid of that problem as well.
Will losing weight cure my snoring? The answer may surprise you
