Probably saved my beardies butt! In my city its been raining for 3 days and regardless of anyithing I did, it spiked at 70+. Had a hunch my enclosure lid had too little ventilation so I just unscrewed it and put on some mesh. Hit 50 within a half hour. Just moved the water bowl and bam! 40%. Gonna grab some rice in the morning and see how much it drops. Lil Ghidorah's been doing fantastic all things considered.

Wow! Exactly what I was looking for! You can use a dehumidifier in the tank. I got Eva dry from American Amazon. I live in Japan and the humidity gets over 80% during summer and rainy season. I tried something new every few days .... Found that instead of using a mesh top, it's better to cover the top or have a closed enclosure and put a dehumidifier in. Good vid, nice and enthusiastic :) 1st question: what substrate is that? Ok, we are complete beardie newbies. We have purchased the vivexotic large which is 115cm (L) x 42cm (H) x 37cm (D) - I know it's far too small for a full size beardie, but this viv will be replaced in Feb/March with a much bigger 5ft (or 6ft) x 3ft x 3ft viv, once baby beardie (which we've not yet bought, hope to buy in around 10 days) is around 4 months old. Before I buy the beardie, I want to make sure the temp/humidity right. Viv is completely bare aside from slate on the bottom, left side 100w solar basking bulb (arcadia), and also left side ProT5 24w 12% (arcadia)...at the Basking Spot end the temperature is bouncing between 38.5 - 38.9 and humidity 21-23 %, and at the Cooler end of the viv, the temp is 26.1 and 49% humidity....temperature/humidity measured 1 inch above substrate level. Do I need to add more ventilation at the cool end? Thanks - The Callaghan Posse :)
@NORTHERNEXOTICS5 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest it does sound like you have it pretty spot on at the moment. The higher hummidity on the cool side isn't an issue. In the wild under bushes when they cool down it's slightly higher hummidity . Don't use my substrate tho. It's a vet recommended because when I rescued him he had a foot issue and this helps his foot. Only another few months of this substrate and it can be changed

Since making this video I've realised that people in America comment use glass so it's acceptable there. Here in the UK it increases hummidity and inside the glass can return a reflection of the bearded dragon and cause aggression. The duo's are okay. Sometimes called mercury vapour bulbs. If you've only had the bearded dragon a few days it sometimes take a week for the hummidity to drop . If it doesn't try some of the tips in the vodeo

Just use a fan it works perfectly my leopard geko tank was at 50 and it went down with a fan to at least 30
@NORTHERNEXOTICS5 жыл бұрын
The problems with a fan you have to think about alot more. Like draft shelter spots where the animal can get out of draft spots. Keep in mind these are cold blooded species . With a fan you create a wind chill factor so temps will not be correct. They will read on an ir as ok but they can't take the chill factor into account . The risk of pneumonia is far to great for me to use a fan. Ontop of that if your using a bulb to heat up the enclosure you also risk miss matched light. The uva,uvb,ir and ultra violet will be all over the place
@wiz42143 жыл бұрын
@@NORTHERNEXOTICS Thats not entirely true fans can really work I have an Infinity fan for my bearded dragon's cage with a speed of controler, which allows me to control the speed of the fan keeping the wind chill down. I place my fan in the corner part of my 40 gallon terrarium on top of the screen and it brought my Humidity down from 60⁰ to 45⁰ in two days. And yes I have a lot of humidity gauges throughout my terrarium and I check her temperatures every morning evening and at night. Everyone doesn't have a wood enclosure to drill into such as you. But It has not affected the temperatures or on her basking area, her uvb Ray's or any of the things that you have mentioned above. That fan will only affect the UVB rays if its place in the absolute wrong spot, I have tried every trick all the way down to the rice soaks which worked a little as I knew it would and a small dehumidifier etc nothing worked until I got this fan. I have done hella research on the pro and cons. It's been over a month and still no issues with her humidity or her temps. On days that is really humid I turn the fan up and on not so humid days I turn it down low. It keeps that stagnant air moving. At first when I was looking for solutions to fix this when I saw someone else comment about getting a fan and you told them not to get one because it can cause other issues and I was like I don't want to risk any other issues but I had no other choice but to go in this route and it had been the best decision that I have ever made my baby is thriving and there has been no issues with her temperature or it being too cold for her. It really does work if placed right!

@@wiz4214 what are you going to do when you have to get a bigger cage for your beard once it's not a baby? 40 gallons is only good for so long 😕, like a cpl of months. Sounds like you tried to do a lot of work but you have to figure everything out again pretty soon when youre guy is like 7/8 months and he gets larger. Are you living somewhere tropical to have such high humidity numbers? I have never heard someone complain of them being that high? I'm in Michigan so I have never had mine above 50 and that was when I got my zen 4x2x2 and added the CocoCoir into my topsoil and plays and mix since it can hike up humidity. I too was a part of the trend for bigger housing when it comes to bearded dragons and my mind quickly change from my own experience. Some dragons don't like large housing and some do. The fact that you said "what are you going to do when she needs a bigger cage when it's not a baby" I couldn't do anything but lmao. What do you mean ???? if my dragon preferred something larger I will get them something larger no issues, problem solved 😆 also no I do not stay in a "tropical place", I stay in the south and my fan situation is working perfectly on top of my nee dehumidifier. I don't have to run my fan on high or as much, she has no issues with her humidity anymore. So you don't have to be in a different climate to have different humidity levels on top of a changing climate. So again, nothing wrong with all four of digital/bluetooth humidifiers from grovee. To say that "I tried" like I'm still struggling present-day is laughable. Or to imply like I couldn't afford to get a bigger enclosure like dude... I had hiccups along the way but I did hella research that was necessary for the health of my baby. And she's living her best life present day. I don't know about you but my baby stays in her tank for her necessary UVB before and after meals but she gets a natural UVB outside of her T5 uvb and in Natural sunlight and heat everyday. I'm a work from home artist so I can do this. Thank you kindly for your unwanted opinions and concerns. I think I got this 👍...

What if the tank is glass? How would I lower it then? Is it the same?
@NORTHERNEXOTICS5 жыл бұрын
It's never ideal to have them in a glass tank. Kind of frowned upon but if that's what you decide to do then all well . You can still do everything except ventalation to which you could use a mesh material for the lid to allow great circulation

@NORTHERNEXOTICS5 жыл бұрын
You are correct. I 100% agree . I did advice that in a video a long time ago but got so much hate and I got reported to the animal welfare. This is a technical grey area. For the animals health keep the water bowl out. But law regarding having pets is they need access to fresh water all the time. Because these are classed under pets the law states I need to have a water bowl. They get there moisture from there food

Before thanking your humidity is too high and doing things to lower it if you have an analog thermometer like the ones in these videos they are completely inaccurate. Switch to the digital ones.
@NORTHERNEXOTICS5 жыл бұрын
Every hygrometer is accurate within 2 years of its life . The inaccuracy comes from installation being incorrect weather it be the sticky tab that holds it to the wall not being correctly fitted. ( Most have a polo like hole in the middle that needs removing and alot of people don't take it out like instructions read) or the wrong placement in the enclosure. Digital have a tendancy to fail more frequent as has mine my dearded dragon enclosure due to electrical and fine components corroding over time and also keep in mind high humidity enclosures like my Savannah monitor. The electrical digital hygrometers fail within a year. The correct placement has always baffled me which is the reason I have more then one in my enclosure. Your creating a environment suitable for your species . Humidity rises . A correctly installed hygrometer will read higher the higher up you place it. This is also the reason alot of big named people place there hygrometer on the floor of there enclosure for grown dwelling species . You want to read the humidity at the level your animal spends most of its time. It's a tricky one really because ball pythons spend most of there time in a hide so that's where the digitals may come in alot more useful with a probe under the hide. The inaccuracy is a sciantificly proven fact. They are all accurate upto 2 years of life providing installed as per the instructions.
