Yep, I've don't it too as a quick way to change the front gearbox seal/Input shaft bearing, it's miserable to reassemble though, as you have to insert the bolts/bracket for the reverse gear from outside the housing through a small space as the housings have to be close together. Sealing it becomes an issue aswell. 🤣👌🏾 I only recommend this way if you need to only change the seal/besting and you don't have the correct puller(which I didn't)

This should be exactly the C150 that comes with 1998 European Corolla E11 with 4efe engine. I looked at the video and what you do is amazing. The fact is that nobody is capable to do this for me in Italy for a reasonable price. Just to open and close the gearbox they will ask at least €500. The rest of the work would cost me at least other €500. My gearbox is compromise because the synchronization forks are probably worn. They asked me € 1300 to refurbish it. No way! I found a refurbished one for €720. I also found a Glanza C 56 box for €680 pounds. It is non-LSD though. What do you suggest?

Are there bearings on the spider gears? Would this massive preload cause excessive wear? How has it held up since you installed it?
@morganfreeman51713 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend you NOT to use this style of "limited slip diff". My dad fitted his car with it and it ruined the gear box. It does work to start with, but not for very long. The thing is it works by friction (metal on metal) and it will wear very fast. It contaminates the gear oil with a thick metal paste. It is not worth it. A torsen style lsd is the way to go. Very expensive, but it will last without having to service it (unlike disc lsd's).
@imestia79112 жыл бұрын
It doesn't grind the teeth of the diff?
@destruxandexploze25523 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you can turn it with two hands even if it’s “really hard” the engine can turn MUCH MUCH more than you can. It won’t hold up too well.
@MattBerrymotorsport3 жыл бұрын
someone has explained to me that it works completely different than i originally thought... the springs just hold the plates against the spider gears to stop rattles... when power is applied to the diff centre, the centre tries to turn and the pin tries to push the two plates apart, giving pressure to the spider gears... the more force thats applied, the tighter the LSD...

You might be the most reliable person I can speak to right now. The question I made to several people who know these gearboxes is if the C150 is a weaker gearbox compared to the C56. The gear rates work perfectly with my Corolla has the car is heavier compared to the Starlet. I swapped the engine with a 4EFTE and I am planning to reach maximum 200 hp. What do you think I should do? Keep this gearbox or swap it with a C56? If you have seen them both open maybe you can tell me what to do. Thank you
@MattBerrymotorsport Жыл бұрын
We ran one of our turbo cars around 300 hp with the stock box for over 10000km, no issues. Put the c52 in there as an upgrade and broke it soon after. All depends how you drive it too.
@djfrankieflowers Жыл бұрын
@@MattBerrymotorsport Yes I saw the video. That is crazy. Everyone is telling me that the C1 50 is too weak for the turbo engine. To be honest I would do what you did adapting the two plates for the LSD upgrade. If I would be in Australia I would definitely come to your shop to do it. Nobody here would help me. So you should just me by the sea 150 for €720 or by the C52 for £680? I checked gear rates and they are the same besides the first gear that is longer on the Corolla. How is that possible? They say that shorter first gear is weaker than how can it be stronger compared to my gearbox? I’m confused. 1st 3.545 on the C150 compared to 3.166 on the C52.
