Hello! How big the holes in your mesh for cockroaches ? I wan’t to do something similar, but can’t choose the mesh for that. If it is too big, small cockroaches can fall. If it is too small, the trash can be in container with the cockroaches.
@Dcolony3 жыл бұрын
I don't know the proper size buddy, but it was the screen use on windows, called mosquito screen. It's best for dubias, the smallest nymphs won't fall. But Not good for breeding lats, their eggs will be trap and newly hatched roach is small enough to fit in there, and fall below with the waste.

Hi there! Thank you for sharing this ingenious setup for feeder insects! It's Awesome! I have a question though. How do you maintain your feeder colony if the eggs fall down with the frass? Do you have another setup for hatching the eggs? I'm keeping mealworms - a 3 bins system with both the worms and the beetles in flour. I wonder how to separate the eggs from the frass... Or do you just throw the frass and eggs in flour substrate to grow them? Thanks for the insight!
@Dcolony2 жыл бұрын
That may do buddy, on my mealworm set up I use the last one featured in this video, the eggs go with the frass when I notice there's some little larvaes on the under bin I transfer them with the frass in a different container where I feed and grow them, don't worry about the frass you could sieve them later when they're all grown up a little.

I need to try this but I want to see a set up for meal worms.
@Dcolony2 жыл бұрын
The last one works well with mealworms buddy, eggs and frass will all be down there, easy to clean and strain, the only thing I work at the beetles level is feed them, and add the newly pupated ones.

Wow I could really use this once my colony is big! Right now there are only 2 nanitics in my ant colony and I was surprised on how small they are compared to matured colonies haha, and btw D colony idk why but my queen gets easily scared and she ate her eggs so I stopped looking for 10 days and when I looked again there was 1 nanitic worker. I'm thinking of feeding them because they are definitely really hungry, but the thing is the one that they were drinking has run out of water bc I didnt put a lot of space for the water so I connected another test tube using tape but they still aren't moving near the water and instead put some waste near it but they do drink on it. How should I give them food if they get easily scared?
@Dcolony3 жыл бұрын
Ants get scared buddy every time you open their nest, that's normal especially on young colonies cause it's like a giant rip their nest and exposed them without protection. You can give them their food then just cover them again. And about the move, some ants sp buddy got difficulties moving to a new nest, but we can speed up the process by exposing their old testube their currently at in light, and cover the new testube really well, this will help them to decide faster.
@AndrieAceroo3 жыл бұрын
@@Dcolony Well I dont have a lamp and I definitely cant put them outside bc its loud and I have a lot of family members. But I'll figure it out so is normal sunlight fine? Oh and why did my previous queen not get scared at all when I opened
