Hi Mr. Jensen! It's Mr. Jensen in California... I found this video very helpful. I just ordered 2 tape cartridges for my Replicator Jr. to have them ready.. and will clean my unit every 2-3 months. Here's a question, if I want to speed up the fastest tape speed a bit more to match slap back echos of 90-120 ms, can my tech change a value or two to do that or is there a limit to the electric motor? When T-Rex comes back strong, would they be open to the traditional Slap Back speeds of reel to reel tape machines of the 50s and 60s next time? Thanks!!

I've read on other comments, just move the play back head to the position next to the record head, then you get the short time of the big replicator, now have the long settings
@jensenbell3 жыл бұрын
@@karllongbottomguitars9192 I opened it up and looked carefully. The heads are set permanently in the Jr. There is no option to reposition the playback head. It's going to be a change in the values of the resistors/caps that govern motor speed
@karllongbottomguitars91923 жыл бұрын
@@jensenbell the heads are, erase, record, (gap) and play back . What people are talking about is removing the screw that holds the play back head then physically moving the play back head into the gap where the short time head would be and putting the screw back. If you look at a picture of the big replicator it's, erase, record, short play back and then long play back. So the junior is the same lay out as the big one but with only the long play back head. Play back time is governed by the time from recording to playing back, so tape speed and head spacing govern play back time. Hope this makes sense and by the way I haven't done it but Google it others have

@@karllongbottomguitars9192 🙏 Thank you to Karl. I opened up again. Turned up the lights, got my blue blocker glasses on... saw the tiny-tiny set screw... got the tiny screwdriver... set the head free. Then I really sweated 😰 as I pulled on the small wiring to get it to reach the blank spot. I got lucky that the T-Rex builders left me room to extend it. I then got it positioned and refastened... I wanted some whiskey but I continued. I reset the tape head pressure and the saturation knob... and fired it up. JUST WHAT I NEEDED as you predicted. Now I will have to buy more cassettes because I'm going to be using this constantly. 🙏

Hi ! I was hearing a lot of modulation in my signal so i did what you showed in the first half to calibrate the machine. Fortunately, the modulation is gone but unfortunately I’m not hearing any feedback from my long head but my short head is working fine. What am I doing wrong ?

Excellent clear and detailed instructions. Does it ever have to be demagnetized?
@TrueManCrowyote7 жыл бұрын
If you want clear tones and crisp echoes you need to demagnetize a tape echo every 20 hours of run time. A cheap low power demagnetize won't damage your tape heads. You need to approach the heads and tape path slowly so as not disturb the magnetic field. It works. I know from experience. Nothing sounds like tape . . . but analog and digital delays are incredible these days . . . so don't rush into ownership. it's got Pros and cons.

@@TrueManCrowyotethe sound from a echo tape is way better than a pedal, to my ears anyway
@TrueManCrowyote Жыл бұрын
@@sega62sYes, but the replicator is just a fair quality tape delay to be honest. I've owned a few and while I wouldn't mind having one again, I'd not be willing pay for it. I have an Echo-Fix EF-X2 and it's much better only rivaled by the Fulltone TTE - which can be accused of having a mechanical noise issue in the recording studio due to the potentially squeaky capstan. If you're looking for a pedal that can almost kill a tape echo, I'd recommend anything with the new Xvive MN3005 BBD reproduction chips. I even prefer them to the Panasonic chip they emulate, they've got a tremendous tonal range from bright to dark with very little overall distortion. The Chase Bliss Thermae is a top contender as is the EHX DMM1100-TT. I honestly am afraid to turn my tape echo on some days (for fear of wasted hours on the tape and wear and tear on the mechanism, the annoying build-up of magnetism that causes hiss), but I will NEVER hesitate to use one of these pedals instead.

Why has this exact stomp box model gone out of production? Where is the chorus on the "Deluxe" model?

They probably reckoned that adding chorus to a notoriously warbly device was redundant.

7 year old video but hopefully someone can help: is it possible to open up the tapes and replace the tape in them? I hate the idea of putting these things in the landfill every few months.

How often do you have to replace the tape?

Is it possible to bypass the erase head?
@hoover72810 ай бұрын
Apparently if you cover it with tinfoil or tape it can be neutralized. What I would like to try is to see if the wires to the heads are long enough and then move head 1 to where the erase head is and move the erase and record heads to the right. This will set it up like an EP-3 or RE-301, where the first head will play back everything on the loop before being erased and you can keep it going by having feedback up high enough. This way you can easily switch between the sound on sound and regular delay with the short and long foot switches.

IMO spending 800+ on a mono tape peddle is pointless because you can get a good stereo tape machine for 800 -1000 . then you can use it for full stereo mix and delays .

is it possible to replace the tape with a longer tape and increase the delay time?
@hoover7284 жыл бұрын
The length of the tape has nothing to do with the delay time. Time is determined by the space between the record and playback heads and the speed of the motor.
