T-Rex Effects are proud to present the new version of Binson Echorec 2023.
It’s not easy to reinvent forgotten technology, but after many years of research, we found the lost secrets and brought back the authentic echoes from the 1950s.It’s known for its use in David Gilmour and Hank Marvin’s guitar tones, John Bonham even used it on drums!
The Binson Echorec provides a unique and distinguishing type of echo supplied by a rotating metal drum where the audio signal is recorded through a magnetic recording head. The Four Playback heads will allow you to choose individual echoes and swells.
- Two recording heads with short and long delays.
- Adjustment of drum speed +/- 20%
- Four individual and switchable Playback heads
- Four individual-level adjustments of the Playback heads.
- Magic eye to determine input levels.
- Balanced in/out-put for studio use.
- Selection between Repeats and Swell.
- Connection for external drum speed adjustment.
- Connection for external Bypass.
On guitar - Jens Varmløse

Omg this thing sounds amazing. I love how the original vintage ones would add a subtle break up or distortion tone under the clean tone- something every digital modeler, analog devices just can’t do yet without months of tweaking and adding other stuff. This has that magic!

Wow!!! That onboard drive with the short delay sounds absolutely insanely good! Around 4:00 that might be the greatest/richest sound to ever come out of a pedal. I'm listening on monitors and it sounds like it's a Genuine 60s recording in hi fidelity!

I think you may have missed a trick, a friend was a good electrician, built his own pedals etc, he took a (Selmer?) copycat and put in a switch on the erase head... you can guess the rest and how it makes a great thing even better! i got him to do it for mine too and it produces some very weird results and encourages lots of experimentation in overlaying sounds on the fly... you could even play diffirent instruments and voice while building a loop... hours of fun without the family! :)

maybe the perfect place for an erase on/off would be at the front opposite the bypass switch, and then it's also balanced at the front... folk will love it if you do... hopefully there is room under that corner of the casing to fit another switch...

Since this is a true analog delay, is it best to run into the front of the amp instead of the fx loop? Or just a choice? Back in the day analog delays would be used to push the amp.
@TRexEffects
@TRexEffects Жыл бұрын
That depends on what you are going for. If you put it in front of the amp, you will get more saturation from the amp itself and when you put it in the loop the signal will be a lot cleaner in the repeats. Both ways are valid ways to use the unit.

Any idea about how often this thing will need service to keep the mechanical part going? And who would be qualified to do that? I can wear the initial expense but I'm wondering how much maintenance will cost me.
@TRexEffects

That's an impossible question to answer cause it depends on how you use it. T-Rex will be doing repairs on these.

The designer of the original Binsons claims they are actually very durable machines. Older units seem to only have problems with worn tubes, leaky caps, and poor drum maintenance. My guess is that the goal of the project was to develop a more reliable alternative to tape echoes
@TRexEffects
@TRexEffects Жыл бұрын
@@i.shadrin well the Binson actually preceded the tape echo, so it was a matter of creating a new effect at the time

is it the binson adding all the distortion or the guitar set up ? can you have it non distorted ?
@TRexEffects

It's adding harmonic distortion when it is driven hard. You can use it fairly clean
@aromalrays6530

@@TRexEffects The breakup doesn't sound bad-very nice in fact-but we really need to hear some clean signal through this to hear the fidelity of the repeats. The fact that all the available demo footage has so much distortion is a bit concerning to me. I actually preordered it already, but I'm desperate to hear some basic clean chords and single notes through this, please. A lack of headroom or excessive distortion would really negate its utility in my use case.

@@aromalrays6530 Put it in the effects loop of your amp and don't drive it hard and it will get rid of the distortion. In this video the record level is cranked all the way up. Running it hot before the preamp section of the amp causes all those distortions.

They had to reformulate and have the special wire manufactured. Also it has 4 tape heads in it. Its just not *cheap* to make. A circuit board is cheap. Analog or digital. This is the real deal.

Probably also paying for the months and years that went into developing and sourcing parts and the “new” streamlined design… Personally I think this is a good price for what it is… My only worry would be parts and service in the future…and I’m assuming most of those “critical” parts are custom made and designed

It was announced that only 500 units will be produced. I guess they will be sold in a few months. I personally will wait for a possible future tube version (which i assume will be substantially more expensive), just because cannot afford both solid state and tube version. Both have pros and cons - as i can hear from vintage Binsons demos on KZbin - solid state sounds more HiFi, tube - more 3d
