Got my right rear drum sticking perfect timing for this video! Although I'm a mechanic it's always good to see a channel doing the same thing and seeing if you have any new ideas I haven't thought of

Drum brakes get a bad wrap but they've gotta be one of the most neglected items on a vehicle. Ive got 11 inch drums on all 4 corners of my 76 CJ5. Manual no vacuum assist. It stops great.

I agree, they're not that hard to work on if you take your time and have everything ready before hand. But most people dont tackle them till they are completely shot giving them the bad wrap.

My right rear brakes is too sensitive when I push slightly the brakes. It blocks the wheel and releases when I let go the brakes. It only does that the first 3 to 5 times I push the pedal. What could it be? I have XJ with 1992 dif dana 35. Thank you

I go over that scenario at 9:00, but it's due to the shoes being out of adjustment and moisture will build up on the brake dust and/or create a light surface rust layer on the drums causing them to catch easily the first few brake applications.

@@OutJeeping Yes. I saw your comment and I will definitely look into that. I'm not sure it will be the cause because I change all the springs and adjusters but I will take more attention on that. If you remember any other possible cause, let me know. I really appreciate your videos. Good work!

I would still try to adjust them with the star adjustment screw on the bottom. I had the issue with this Jeep right before I did this video and now it doesn't seem noticeable after it rains. But it is a very common issue with drum brakes, I have had it happen on all drum brake vehicles I've owned.

How about going into the vacuum system? I haven't found very much information on the vacuum system, especially as how it works the front 4x4 system.

A. bit off topic here, My 78 J10, its time for a new steering stabilizer. Any Pro/Con info on what is a known good quality one? Looked for Bilstein yet couldn't locate that brand for it. I would think the OEM like single cyl setup, is probably good enough for my street rig with stock tires/rims etc. thx EDITED: Found this ‎33-174525, on Amazon. So Still looking into this, to see if its proper fit for my 78 J10.

Yeah I would stick with a single cylinder steering stabilizer, no need to wear out the power steering prematurely. I would also recommend Bilstein. You may be able to get away with various lengths in stabilizers because you are able to adjust the mounting bracket on the tie rod. You would want to be the same length as the original stabilizer or longer. Shorter then you will run into issues.

@@OutJeeping thx for reply here. A few more questions as I realized I'm not 100% certain about all needed new parts , their aggregate final geometry. My plan is to use a Bilsteins front stabilizer, else it's a Rancho piece. Second, I spoke to a Rep at the 4WD shop, he claimed Bilsteins on my rig are almost impossible to get a proper fit with the 3" lift kit. Then lastly the "Sway bar links', need to be different or longer too. I understand the needs for sway bar to ride near level or slightly tilt down backward for bind or invert pivot flip reasons. BJ's has several ones. a 1.25" Longer set for $60.00 they claim Will work properly on a 4" lift scenario, and the other longer link set for $155.00 with quick removal pins (not sure their actual length). Any feedback to clear up these points would be appreciated. As I currently am thinking , the 1.25" longer Links are adequate with the RC 3" lift kit installed, and the Bilsteins #5215 (should) work too. If not, Rancho is second choice on the corners. Not sure the ride with the shocks the RC have that are in the kit.. What I intend is, install lift kit, then road test and see how things operate, then perhaps do an under side video GOPRO and see what occurs and decide if an offset pitman arm is really needed.

@@ryryk6977 I would check the connection with the H4 connector on the back of the light and make sure there isn't any corrosion build up. Also swap the lights and see if the issue is with the lights or the Jeep harness side.
