We love being out on the patio in the evenings, weather permitting, and seeing the soft glow of lights throughout the garden is beautiful. What is your favorite time to be outdoors?

Salmonde - Crafts - Food - Love early morning and evening during spring and fall...summer is too hot to enjoy the outdoors no matter what time of day it is...but that’s Texas for you.

The terraium solar lamp to prevent water from getting inside try clear silicon it water proof the heat won't cause it to let go and a sharp Utility Blade ca cut it so it can be separated. Being clear will make it less noticeable. Cut the tube to a very small hole so it is easier yo control your bead of silicon making it a lot easier to control and remove. Alcohol ink is an option to color your glass and still be transparent. Use different colors can be swirled to give a multicolor effect instead of the blue acetate. You can apply the Alcohol ink with a brush to gain control and density of color.

These are so cute but I wonder if clear silicone wouldn't be better than e6000, that way you could change the light if need be.
@natashabarney25542 жыл бұрын
Good idea. I've been wondering that with these diy solar jars. Bc you can change the batteries when they get weak.

Don’t forget to check that the dollar store lights work properly before you put a lot of work into your project. Every now and then you get one that doesn’t work.

When I’ve made a solar jar light, I cut a circle of clear acetate a little larger than the top of the solar light and glue it on. This prevents rain, snow or any moisture from getting in to jar.

Clear acetate? What do you mean? What does it look like because I always get water inside my jars.🙃

Suggestion, use E6000 with a dab of hot glue just in a couple of spots so it will hold until the E6000 sets.

I have been camping fpr the past 10 days and I done 2 solar light projects, #1 was I took a frosted quart decorative jar that had a clear bird on either side and put clear gems it, then E6000 the top to it. Then I put twine, using E6000 to cover the lid, it was so pretty at night the birds really shined. The 2nd one I done, I used as a night for my grandson, I took a pint jar, with a 4th of July solar light, the one from the dollar tree with the red and white striped pole and the stars on top, cut the pole in half, it had a silver top on it,I used E6000 on a blue gem, gluing it in the center of the bottom, made that the light house, then put some blue gems in it for the ocean, covering the jar top just to the rim, then sealed the top with E6000. it was perfect for his night light. I love it.

Walmart's solar lights are cheaper and have the warm white light not the cool white like the cheap ones at DT

Have you left these out in the rain and if so, is water a problem?
@Salmonde_At_Home5 жыл бұрын
Yes. We had torrential downpours and a bit of water did get in a couple of them, but poured back out easily. To do it again I would either use silicone to seal it or better yet, just leave the glue out altogether and just keep an eye on the water levels, if any does get in.

Question...for the last light...could I use the Mod Podge and Food coloring method on the jar then add the light and hang it outside?
@Salmonde_At_Home4 жыл бұрын
You could if you use dishwasher safe or outdoor mod podge. FYI ~ the food coloring may fade a bit in the sunlight.
@cathyburch40912 жыл бұрын
You could just kalk it instead of glue. Then you'd still be able to remove it to change the light if needed.

The hot glue wouldn't work here in Phoenix.
@catherinejohns84493 жыл бұрын
I think the hot glue is just to hold it in place while the e6000 dries... I believe E6000 works well in the heat.

I went to the Dollar Tree and Dollar General and couldn't find hanging jars or plant hangers. Those $1 solar lights aren't very bright and with the tiny solar panel and battery from experience don't charge and run very long. But it's neat projects nonetheless. If I had extra money to buy extra good solar lights i would buy better ones to do a project with.

I think if you only have the plastic succulent plant to hold the glass bowl onto the top, as soon as someone knocks it over, off with come the top busting it. I see 2 options, either gluing a strip around the top of the blue base, so one can take the bowl on and off still, or glue string onto the sides make a circular handle on each side, of which comes up to the top as a carrier. If the strings coming up both sides, made into 2 handles meet at the top, or tie, it might hold it on, but there is still the issue of stability when shaken. What about just a strap glued around it, glued down at the base, with a loop to remove untie it? My big front porch is concrete, and I have had yearly disasters of glass containers busting when a storm comes up, and wind blows my arrangements off of my table outside.

Hi I made sure to the glue was all the way around thinking water would not get in it but water got in any way . How do I get it so rain don't get in?
@Salmonde_At_Home5 жыл бұрын
Eventually the rain got into mine as well, and I have to dump them out. When I make more I will have to drill holes in the bottom so they don't fill with water anymore.
