Actually, you can put glass into the oven without it cracking; just put it in while preheating and let it cool off inside the oven when you turn the heat off until at room temperature. Only a sudden, drastic change in temperature will make it crack, but I can see why it'll be a hassle doing so, as opposed to using air dry clay. Plus it dries light and puffy, like a real latte. :D

I love working with clay, my only pet peeve about it is IT GETS UNDER YOUR NAILS! I can't have long nails because I have to cut them and keep them short when working with clay.

Lovely tutorial! It's so nice to watch the process and the work that goes into this. I haven't used paper clay in a long while since the results always end up cracking after it dries - and since I spend a lot of effort on painting, it's a very sad feeling to see it break. Do you do anything to prevent cracking?

Soulacia Thank you! I've never tried painting directly onto paper clay but I can imagine that the surface will crack as it shrinks as you mentioned, and it would be a shame to ruin the piece. I find the technique of colouring clay with paint before sculpting works quite well. In the case of this piece, it's been drying for over a month now and the shrinkage has created some small air pockets between the clay and glass. However it's barely noticeable and the top (foam) part looks exactly the same :)

Actually, you CAN make it with polymer clay! Ive been working with polymer clay for years and all you need to do is put the whole sculpture in a COLD OVEN and let the oven and the glass heat up at the same time, then when time is up, leave the glass in and the door closed until the oven is room temp again. What causes the glass to shatter is extreme temp change, not the heat itself

I did this its drying right now it was so much fun it took me an hour tho I will tag you on instagram so you can see it when its dry I just added current colors and didn't color the tea and used a small container cup thing so I will paint it when its dry for the face ears and pwas I used black and the rest was pink on the cheeks and as a border on the side of the cup and layerd over the paws and ears I love it :-) :-). !!!!!!
