Great project buddy.....i watched the entire video without any ads, which made the experiment so interesting to watch....Hats off to you for making this single handedly....!! Just a small suggestion..you could have added a battery percentage indicator to show how long will it last, and also to see how much the battery has been charged....otherwise....too good 👍🏻

Taping the balancing transistor may lead to destruction of balancing chip. Those transistors role is to lose power to the enviroment, which you are cutting of by taping it. They would heat up way faster, which can lead to destruction of circuit, which is not a safe thing with Li-Ion cells.
@Wojtkacy
@Wojtkacy 6 жыл бұрын
Sławomir Pietrzykowski That's true, and one more thing... Why does he make 12 separate battery packs and 12 separate charging ports for them?! It's just stupid, isn't it?
@sawomir8253
@sawomir8253 6 жыл бұрын
Depends. The Step-up's thats hes using allow current drain of 6A. The balansing charger module allowes to drain of 25A, but the batteries are different than each other, so balancing them in paralel would may cause problems leading to starting a fire. Probably the reason is the maximum current drain of step-ups and the different batteries. But - you are right - there is no reason to put multiple inputs for step-up's other than he had no efficient enough power source, but he had multiple ones that would be able to charge single modules.
@Wojtkacy
@Wojtkacy 6 жыл бұрын
Sławomir Pietrzykowski Sorry man, but there's no danger in connecting different batteries in parallel, you should only make sure that parallel packs which you connect in series have the same amount of batteries and similar capacity to each other. I've been building li-ion battery packs (from tested used laptop batteries) for 2 years, never had any of them blow up (the biggest one 36p4s), always used thin wire fuse method (hbpowerwall channel explains it very well) and fire blanket on top to prevent any danger. Also the thing you said about few small power supplies is true, but if he has 3 or 4 of them, then why 12 ports instead of for example 4? It would work better, you wouldn't have to take the DC plugs out and in after one pack is fully charged... Anyways, there were better methods to connect everything in this "DIY FLASHLIGHT", the only advantage of his method is in my opinion the fact that if something fails in one of the separate "modules" The rest of them won't be affected and still be working. If that's his point (reliability) then I'm OK with it.
@sawomir8253
@sawomir8253 6 жыл бұрын
There is, because when the voltage of one battery, degradated more than other would have other capacity and will reach the voltage of 4.2V faster than the second one. When for example you would mix a battery with 3,5V and 4,2V, with same serial resistance, the balanser would still deliver a charge to this net, because voltage gain on this net would be 3,85V, when the balancer stops at 4.2V. This may lead to overcharge the 3.5V battery, or overcharge the batteries that are in other nets, because they are connected in serial (balancer only charges specific nets, he doesnt have option to discharge them). This BMS hes using has implemented (as far as I can remember) 300mA balanser. Also, thats why its important to build the battery packs with batteries charged to same state. EDIT: And by connecting different batteries in parallel i mean connecting them in parrallel controlled by same BMS. And... Actually Im starting to think about the will of current flowing to the charged battery, when they are connected in parallel... I have to think about it.
@Wojtkacy
@Wojtkacy 6 жыл бұрын
Sławomir Pietrzykowski Believe me or not but you're wrong. Yes it's not recommended to connect for example 4.2v battery with 3.5v battery, but it won't harm any of them, just the empty battery will get charged by the full one. I've watched enough videos testing it. Hbpowerwall connected 4 full batteries with one empty, and they charged the empty one with few amps, and then dropped to normal (about 1A) level. The charged battery was only a little warm. In parallel connection batteries balance themselves on their own, there's no or very little chance of them being at different voltage levels, and even if they are, they quickly get charged to the same level by other ones in parallel. And the thing you say about the internal resistance... Yes you are in fact right, but generally if the battery has big internal resistance, it heats up during charging, it's not worth to put it in a battery pack, it can shorten its life and cause problems... But batteries with normal internal resistance, up to 200 miliohms are acceptable and don't cause problems in parallel connections. Of course our pack would be better when the internal resistances and capacities are as close to each one as possible, but believe me or not - I've built packs of the shittiest batteries you may think of, and they still work without bigger problems... With safety features I've been talking earlier about, of course.

He used one 3s4p pack with 18650 cells per LED. I guess each cell has 2 Ah so 3 pairs series * 3,7V nominal Voltage = 11,1V running Voltage. 4 paralell strings * 2 Ah each = 8Ah total per pack. 11,1V*8Ah=88,8 Wh 88,8 Wh / 100W consumption = 0,888h. 0,888h * 60 = 53,28 minutes
