Great job right up to the point you put the video in fast forward. The best part for a newbie is the part you can’t watch because you sped it up.

Thanks Chuck nice video, I think lots of folks will build this version. I had done something simular but with a different connector and it works amazing, it got me my first SOTA DX into Guadalajara Mexico from SoCal. 73

I have built your Apollo, Mercury and Ares. They are all remarkable antennas. I used your link for most of the parts and will build this as well. Looks like the same 49:1 winding as the Apollo.

I have to like this. Why? It is the same idea came up with After seeing Adam K6ARK's EFHW build on a BNC Plug. Unforunately, I could not find a suitable BNC Plug here in OZ, so I thought I would use a Binding Post adaptor. Chuck has just beaten me to it. Well done Chuck. Cheers Bryce, VK3NBI.

Absolutely fantastic video Chuck! Thanks for sharing! I've been using a 49:1 transformer from ebay with a 66.5' wire on my POTA activations recently. Although I haven't scanned the 75m, 60m, or 17m SWR/impedance, my IC-7100/Z-11ProII combination has tuned it up everywhere I've tried on these bands. The trick for 75 and 60 seems to be keeping the wire higher off the ground close to the feedpoint. The wire is less than a half wave long, so the high current portion of the wire needs to be elevated more than would otherwise be necessary for 40m. Thanks again, and 73 de VE3GKT!

Thanks for the video really informative well laid out just what I needed. In the beginning was going to order another kit but supplier was out of stock. Stumbled upon your channel and this video and decided this will fit my needs perfectly and will be a easier build and a lot less instructions I did spend more more money than the other kit but it was only for one antenna. I bought enough supplies to build multiple antenna’s. Thanks again like your channel.

Great job I use almost the same EFHW antenna setup for SOTA/POTA and it works well. I’m really curious about the 80m portion... I wonder if it’s acting like a 1/4 wave for 80 m? But then the impedance would be jacked up and there is no ground system except for the coax... I suppose if the coax it was about 64 feet long then you would almost have a dipole for 80m. Well who knows, it’s something fun to play with and that’s the fun of amateur radio! Another great way to make an EFHW is to mount the transformer directly on the wire winder like KM4ACK.
@G7VFY
@G7VFY 3 жыл бұрын
You might be better off using TWO ferrites as you'll get better performance. You can also use an inch or two of coax as a high voltage capacitor. G7VFY

It looks on the video like you connected the cap on the output side of the transformer. Normally it goes on the input side in every on I've ever done. What dark magic is this?
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Nigel at 2:48 in the video look at the diagram, the capacitor goes to the TX and GRD sides, I attached them to the binding post which would be how you have done before. It's just a tight setup and hard to get on camera sometimes.

I have run 12 watts SSB with no problems, probably 15 max ssb and 5 for CW and check to see if it gets warm. If more needed a bigger toroid or stack 2. I just built and tested another EFHW using a 140 toroid handles 100 watts easily on SSB video will be out in a couple weeks. Thanks for the comment and watching! 72

how much does the wire gauge impact the effectiveness of the 49:1 balun? Do you need to do more/less turns than if you use say an 18g?

Excellent video and tutorial. I built the antenna and tested it. On 7.041 Mhz the SWR is 1.4 and the resistance is 35. What do you think I I should adjust to improve it?
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bret, I like to keep the coax end of the antenna about 1 foot off the ground that seems to help some but I think it depends on how high it is when you tune it. If that is to low in the band try folding the wire ove to make it shorter it might be too long.
