Wow calipers what you built is great. As a journeyman machinist, it's a wood box! I built some 20 plus yrs ago 10 minutes each box still have. All with hand tools tape measure. Miter box. Nails too. I luv the video reminded me when I had to machine round spear for NASA using sine plates Joe blocks and mikes. That took me 2 months. 2 people round the clock.

Jednostavno...

I wish there was a bit more on the frames i've seen a couple of different ones but the top piece is important , the shape of it i'd like to have seen a little more detail for that and what is the screen for it's on the bottom so i assume it's for air ,yes i'm new.

Scrap wood city: I am truly amazed at your attention to detail and build quality. Why so many mortice & tenon joints? cannot just corner lap or butt with glue and screw? Would you make another deep and frames to go on top of that hive or leave it as it is for first season? If I ever need a set of 6 new hives plus additional deeps, I know where to come now for a premium quality build ;)
@ScrapwoodCity
@ScrapwoodCity 7 жыл бұрын
thank you. When the hive is full of honey and wax and the beekeeper has to lift it up to move it around, you need to have really strong joints. Also the hive spends the entire year outside having to deal with rain, winds and sunlight. So the stronger definitely the better!

Pleasantly surprised to see how much you are able to do with a tablesaw, bandsaw and a few jigs. Great job. That handle jig is really cool. Any suggestions for making V-shape top bars - safely? I'm trying to make them with a "long & deep" V. The bees build better and straight comb. This would be for a top bar hive. Like your finger jointing - great job! Will watch this again and try to duplicate. I've build a double-walled top bar hive that I can slip solid insulation board between come winter. I've also built a Lazutin extra-deep hive (golden hive) with 18" deep frames - 19" long. Lot of honey.

And if you need to create 100 frames or 1000 how many in your opinion it will take time! The robot is good, akuratnaya, but you can do this when one or two beehives! But if the apiary is 10, 20, 50 or more, you will not look so much at the place !!! Laik for your hard work! Good luck to you

@ScrapwoodCity
@ScrapwoodCity 7 жыл бұрын
You can use just screws. But having the box joints you get additional strength and life on your hive. The beekeeper may has to lift a hive full of honey a few times a year. So you need as much strength as you can.

hive lids are called telescopic covers as they overlap the hive body to keep out water. your lid would not be water tight. you have no inner cover. frames cost .80 & are not worth the time it takes to make them. latches are not needed either. your woodworking is good but the design missed the mark.
