It would definitely work but you still may have to use some black food coloring, maybe just not as much.

Typically, you will need close to an entire cake mix for a 10" pan & 1.5 cake mixes for a 12" pan.

if i use 6 inch cake pans how much batter per pan?

You could do up to 11-12 oz per pan & would need to make 1 1/2 batches of the cake batter. You could also still do 10oz per pan like we did in the video-- your cake layers will just be slightly shorter since you pan is an inch larger.
