Hi there....Just a short question …..Do you know if Tesco are still selling Low Dust cat litter ??….As I cannot seem to source it in our 4 Tesco stores in Inverness.

Hi Ken, Tesco was sell it in larger stores, but earlier this month they have discontinued it. I have reverted back to my original bonsai soil mix recipe.

First of all I have to say i love all your videos but i am curious what soil you use. from here it looks like gravel. Can you please elaborate. Thank you..
@mikbonsai5 жыл бұрын
The soil I used in this video was Tesco's Premier low dust cat litter. Unfortunately they have discontinued this particular brand and the others are not suitable for use with bonsai trees so I have now reverted back to my original bonsai soil mix. I have a video showing how to make it.

Hi, do you think i can repot mine in summer? I have a Kojo No Mai and would like to repot but i aways understood i had to wait untill winter. Can you please tell me how to handle this in summertime or if it is even possible? Thanks, nice channel btw, subscribed
@mikbonsai3 жыл бұрын
Its best to repot in Spring. as there the risk of the tree dying is at its lowest then. You can repot in the summer, but have to take great care, and not bare root the tree, but ensure a keep a nice rootball with original soil and also ensure that the roots do not dry out. I have done all the the above and still managed to kiil a black thron tree which was my pride and joy. With hindsight I ought to have waited until the following sping.

@mikbonsai6 жыл бұрын
Hello Adam, What size is the tree and is it in a nursery pot ? in the ground ? how tall and what is the thickness of the trunk ? post this information and I will suggest how you could do it. Cheers IK
@weeklydoseofants5876 жыл бұрын
mikbonsai the tree is as thick as a pencil and in the size pot in this video it's 37 cm tall
@mikbonsai6 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, if you are happy with the thickness of the trunk, then next spring would be the time to repot it into a bonsai pot. In this video I did not have to do much root pruning. Watch some of my other videos where I make bonsai from nursery plants. You will need to remove the tap root and also other very thick roots. Comb the roots out and trip in circular fashion to fit the pot. After the repotting, remove branches which are crossing, growing downwards, straight up and also if there is more than one branch from the same area. Keep the newly repotted tree in complete shade for three to four weeks allowing it to recover and grow new feeder roots. After that it can be brought out in to sun. If you want a thicker trunk, then let it grow for a couple of more years, You could also plant it in the ground to speed up the thickening of the trunk. I hope this is helpful. All the best. IK

Don't know if you saw my earlier question.....I am having a problem sourcing Tesco low dust cat litter ,which makes great material...Are you having the same problem in England...If so is there an alternative ????
@grobonsai6 жыл бұрын
Hi, this is probably a bit late, but, Tesco have discontinued the product. Pets at Home selling a product called Sanicat Pink which is the same material, but it does have a larger particle size. If you need the smaller particle size, you can get it sold by Kaizen Bonsai, called 'Moler Clay', which is spelt 'Molar' in other places. Kaizen sell two grain sizes, small which is similar to the old Tesco product, and large which is similar to the Sanicat product. It's all the same stuff. Hope that helps!

I have a nine year old crabapple bonsai. I purchased it just five days ago and it looked fine. Its leaves are turning brown and look like they're going to fall off. It is watered regularly, has plenty of light and isn't too hot or cold. Do you have any advice?
@mikbonsai6 жыл бұрын
Hi Neil, It always helps to have as much information as possible, where you live, whats the weather like right now ? where was the tree kept at the time of purchase and where are you keeping it ? are you feeding it if yes with what and how often. It could be over or under watering, the soil should be moist but not soaking wet. Apologies for the late reply due to work commitments. Do consider subscribing and also hit the bell icon next to the subscribe button. I do hope you are able to get this tree sorted, I have a few of them my self and videos are on my channel. What is soil media used in this bonsai sir
@mikbonsai6 жыл бұрын
Hi, this is a particular type of cat litter manufactured in the EU. It is made by heating clay to very high temperatures and the clay turns into granules with similar qualities as the Japanese Akadama. The link for this product is : goo.gl/CMX7gJ I also use horticultural grade pure Pine Bark and you will also see me working with it in some of my videos. I also make my own bonsai soil mix and the link for that video is below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWXXnXZ-nZaBsKs I hope this helps. Cheers IK

Hello, I would like your opinion, I made a air layering in a pine tree native to my area, it is working, but it has little root. Do you think I should put it in the pot now at the end of that month, or wait for next spring? I am afraid to leave for next spring, and the harsh winter from where I live, will kill the roots because this air layering is in nature.
@mikbonsai6 жыл бұрын
Hello Alan, Leave the air layer on and allow the roots to get bigger and stronger, if they are white, they are very weak. They need to get darker in colour to be strong. Do pot it up to protect it from your harsh winter. If it doesn't survive the winter, have another go and do the air layer as soon as it gets hot, May time and by end of July you should have very strong roots. Watch this play list of three videos, the first two show how I do it and also to give you an idea of the colour of the roots : kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4LdaISBf7SqpJo Do let me know how you get on with your pine.
