Making unique lamps for your home is easier than you think. This is a great hobby for anyone! The supplies are affordable and the outcome is always uniquely YOU! 😃
Bottle Lamp DIY Instructions 🛠
1. Find a glass bottle of your choice (you can ask at your local pub for cool, unique looking empty bottles), or use your favorite wine bottle or even one of the larger beer bottles.
2. Gather your supplies - all the materials used in this video are available here: www.bottle-lamp.com/resources/.
For the lamp kit you can use pieces of an old lamp or purchase a new lamp kit here: goo.gl/yyyID8
3. Empty the bottle if needed (drink or dump :( contents) and clean out the inside of the bottle. Let dry completely.
4. Drill a hole in the back of the bottle, usually towards the bottom, and feed the wire through.
5. Attach the lamp kit securely to the bottle.
6. Add your energy saving light bulb and lamp shade. Find inexpensive lamp shades here: goo.gl/QITT3F
7. Light up your lamp and enjoy your new bottle lamp project.
8. Be sure to check out www.Bottle-Lamp.com

That is a really nice lamp 😃 and the lava rocks are super cool inside the bottle 👍 never thought of making my own lamp before. Don't know about the drilling part, but thanks for this, it's a neat idea.

Hey Nick - this video was awesome and inspired my wife and I to forgo the pottery barn purchase and make our own lamps (we'll see if that turns out well). We'd really like to replicate the approach you took here, so that being said: (1) what size drill bit did you use for the bottle cap / cork versus what size did you use for the glass hole at the base of the bottle? (2) Is it okay to use a diamond drill bit for both of these applications? (3) Lastly, did you use the Home Depot kit for your lamp, and if so did you have to buy the grommet (for the hole at the base of the lamp) separately? Thanks so much!
@NickandSilkeCreate
@NickandSilkeCreate 7 жыл бұрын
Adam Re, I simply matched up a drill bit that would fit the diameter of the threaded rod that came with the kit. For this hole I used a regular drill bit. I wouldn't recommend using your diamond tipped hole bit for this procedure. It would be wasting the drill bit on a material that can be done with a regular bit. In regards to your last question; I have not used the Home Depot kit but I have used different lamp kits and none of them came with the rubber grommet. I would purchase a bulk bag of them. Let us know how your bottle lamps turn out!

I'm planning on doing this. just wondering could I break up an old lamp for the cord rather than buying one?
@NickandSilkeCreate
@NickandSilkeCreate 7 жыл бұрын
James, That should work just fine. You'll need something to hold the lamp stem in place when you put it into the bottle neck. In the video I used the original bottle stopper.

Tony, Great minds think alike! There are some bottles that are just too cool to throw away. The 'ghost ship' on this one was just screaming to be re-purposed. Did you find the right lamp shade?
@toneofease
@toneofease 7 жыл бұрын
Nick Jager The bottle is great, the rum though.. bleh. I took the label off and scraped off everything except the ship. I have a few lamp shades but I used one that matched the width. I like to use black lights in some of the other lamps. You can find them at Walmart for about $4-5 and I've found they look better without the shade.

Just curious why you didn't use the lamp socket that the cord comes out of the top instead of having to drill the bottle?
@NickandSilkeCreate
@NickandSilkeCreate 7 жыл бұрын
kd4ddp, I like the look of the lamp cord coming out of the base of the bottle rather than the top. A personal preference I guess.

What size drill bit did you use to drill through the cork????
@NickandSilkeCreate
@NickandSilkeCreate 5 жыл бұрын
I would recommend a 1/2" drill bit. If you measure up the size of the threaded rod that comes with your bottle lamp kit then you will have a good idea as well.
@3keemz1
@3keemz1 6 жыл бұрын
How did you drill a hole into the cork without it crumbling? And what size bit will be needed?
@NickandSilkeCreate
@NickandSilkeCreate 6 жыл бұрын
The cork in the video had a metal plated top. If you are attempting to do this with just a regular wine bottle cork it will probably be a little more tricky. If your cork does crumble you can use the holders that come with the bottle lamp kit. Use a drill bit that is closest to threaded rod's size.
@3keemz1
@3keemz1 6 жыл бұрын
The holders that came with the bottle lamp kit aren’t fitting, none of them fit the opening of the bottle.
@NickandSilkeCreate
@NickandSilkeCreate 6 жыл бұрын
No worries. Take the one that is closest to fitting inside the bottle neck and add a layer or two of duct tape to the outside of the holder. If you cut the width of the duct tape to the width of the holder it will look more uniform and appealing.

What did you place the cork on when you drilled a hole through it?
@NickandSilkeCreate
@NickandSilkeCreate 4 жыл бұрын
Good question (wished I would have shown that in the video). I used a large pair of pliers and let it rest on my work bench while drilling it from the top. The pliers will keep it from turning while you are drilling.

how did you drill it out without cracking the glass?
@NickandSilkeCreate
@NickandSilkeCreate 7 жыл бұрын
Michael, A combination of the 'glass drill bits' and using a slow and steady pressure will prevent the cracking from happening.

Actually nice job. Say this, big the thickness of the cable, it could be thinner, since the watts of the led lamps are minimal (low) now. Here in Europe there are lamp holders with couple of rings that holding the lampshade firmly!
