I'm Japanese. I'm so glad that young NON Japanese man make our flute and teach people how to make!!! Thank you so much for taking over our culture and spread it to the world 😊🙏

Tbf y'all made an awesome ass flute, sure it's pentatonic but with meri-kari you can achieve full on chromaticism, shits INSANE. God bless 🙏

I really don’t think one man - with an enthusiastic, genuinely informative video to boot - should be viewed as “taking over [our] culture“.

Really nice. I love these sorts of simple/inexpensive tutorials. I find them really great for beginners (like me) to help us 1] get a lot of the first-timer errors out of the way and 2] help me decide if I really want to go on to all the effort of doing a traditional/wooden project (that is, while at the same time saving a lot of money and -hopefully- still ending up with a usable instrument). Thanks much.

Thanks for sharing. If you cut the angles you will save all that pvc dust. Just file and sand to a smooth finish. PVC cement is very quick drying. Once dry it will not come loose. It becomes a one piece unit. To clean of print on PVC use finger nail polish remover. It works very well. But do it outside and not near an open flame. The solvent is extremely flammable. It will flash near a flame.

I don’t want to praise you, but you are amazingly laconic, unlike most the rest. And much more importantly the tool - flute is really nice and easy to make in accordance of your instruction.! Best of the best, next to La Kosse.....)) Не хочу вас хвалить, но вы удивительно немногословны, в отличие от большинства. И самое главное инструмент -флейта хороша и действительно проста в изготовлении по вашей инструкции. Вы лучший

I hate to be the kind that points things like this out, but has anyone noticed how Adam’s soft, narration voice sounds just like a younger version of Brad Pitt? I immediately felt like I was listening to Brad, doing his psych evaluations about his youth, to the computer, in Ad Astra... Seriously, you sound cool, Adam. You could do voice work for Hollywood. Thanks for this video, nice work!

That is really cool! Greetings from Brazil! How could I do the measures to get it tuned half step below? Make it longer and then shorten it until I get a D flat and then recalculate the holes?

If 1. you show how to blow the mouth piece. 2. The length from each hole to wherefore the mouth piece. These two will make your flute perfect.

Hello Adam, I tried your method. This works for me, except for one thing: Overhere, in the Netherlands, I cannot buy a 3/4 pipe. The nearest diameter is 1 inch. At least with sufficient wallthickness. Do you know what the measurements are when using this bigger diameter?
@adamhults20timemusicalappr634 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I do not, that's a little bit outside my research for this video. Because it's a bigger tube, I assume the key will be different and the octave probably lower too. You could try by just experimenting where to put the holes and what sounds correct . Other than that I would just web search "shakuhachi 1 inch diameter"

hey Adam how to do the blowing part for those who don't have the machines, that is, manually please ♥
@adamhults20timemusicalappr634 жыл бұрын
So instead of using the machine sander like I did, you can just use sandpaper and sand the tip of the mouthpiece at the same angles that I described in the video. Sorry for the long wait 😅

I tried it with hand machines (not the machines seen on video) and its a huzzle, already error with first pipe. i bought alot of pipes and mouthpiece just in case so ill try other methods this time. this metod does not work no sound at all i think you can only make it work with the same machines on video and much pratice to make the mouth piece. not easy to do. Warning to others it does not work on first try need to try at least 4 to 5 pipes.
