Your M4 is one of the cleanest builds out there. And the fact that you build most parts on your own makes this the most beautiful M4 for me. Planning on doing a project like this too. Hope I will ever have the same skills as you have.

if you want a detailed video (well more like 3 videos) then you should watch the first few videos of easy composites ltd, they sell all the stuff you need and doing a really good job explaining how its done and their first show off project was a full carbon fibre hood ;)

I think the most impressive thing is that you got all of the mold pieces to print without lifting at the ends! Props to your bed level. Nice job on everything!
@dddderpprre46043 жыл бұрын
Never cut square corners into composites, it creates a stress riser and will crack. Next time, drill a hole in each end of the slot, then cut, you will thank me later. Nice job otherwise!

Can you elaborate further for me please? I am planning on also working with carbon fibre(starting off a bit smaller) soo i will appreciate some pointers if you would like!!
@alexanderbjerser41725 ай бұрын
@@diegojosephiaI believe they are referring to the hole cut in the wing for the mount to the car (the one indicated by the yellow wax). Anytime you have a square corner you basically focus an unnecessary amount of stress at that point. Take for example an L bracket with a square corner (easy to break) vs an L bracket with a rounded corner (much more difficult to break). I could be wrong about what he is referring to but this is what was taught in my mechanics of solids class.

A pro tip is to not use the sealant tape as full wide but stretch it. We were able to reduce our usage of sealant tape tenfold by stretching the tape. Also, please use water to reduce the amount of airborne dust when cutting and sanding.
@ECOLAPStudio3 жыл бұрын
Hello, friend. I've always thought it was expensive compared to the amount of sealant tape. Thank you for your advice.

Its flimsy because your carbon weaves are all in one direction, you need to interchange them 45 degrees. For next time. :)
@Liquidazot3 жыл бұрын
I could agree with you if the pattern was not x threaded only strait line. with X pattern there is no really meaning how you put them. Allso you never put X on X by hand they allways gona be disaligned to each other. If you realy want to build something strong. before the resine layers should be sawed with carbon fibers thread to create 3Dmentional structure not two layers glued together.Than It whould make a diffence.
@Homebuilt.Brett00323 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the way he joined the two halfs by stuffing a piece of cloth between then then cutting off. the only thing that would be holding them would be the epoxy he put on it. should have had a flange and a receiver flange on the other side of the part so they overlap and join that way.
@aeywyn52303 жыл бұрын
Also gonna have some serious galvanic corrosion which will lead to the wing flying off sooner or later. From what I saw the aluminium was not isolated from the carbon which is a no no ^^
@spyketan723 жыл бұрын
@@aeywyn5230 ; should have placed a strip of glass fiber where the aluminum sits, that would be enough isolation. So much work, so little thought, so much filament (costly).
@oddspaghetti42873 жыл бұрын
No dude the adding 45 degree fibers would not help that much since the fibre direction with those is not in line with the force. If strength were an issue UD fibers in line with the wing would be the answer.

I would suggest laminating foam core sandwiched between the middle of your lay ups to add rigidity and highly advise against using aluminum directly in contact with Carbon as it will react and corrode over time if the materials aren't kept entirely segregated from eachother. Otherwise good work. Power tools like sanders,spray guns, and pressure washers would speed up your process as well :)

How long does it take to corrode?

@briangustin10853 жыл бұрын
Galvanic corrosion will effect those aluminum mounts. Next time put a ply or 2 of fiberglass down. There is also an easier way to do a more consistent seam than that. Love your videos though.
