Thank you for the tutorial. Helpful tip: Glue a piece of batting over the prongs of the magnetic snap and then fuse the outer fabric to the foam. Those prongs will wear through that cotton very quickly.

This is a great tip! I spent hours making an elaborate needle book and used these snaps. It started to pull through the cotton in no time. So sad! Will definitely do this next time!

Thanks for this hint. I’m curious - is a snap really necessary? For some reason, I just don’t use them even if whatever I’m carrying has them.

Don’t use a seem ripper to cut the holes!! Fold along the mark and use embroidery scissors to snip the hole. If you do use a ripper place a pin along the top edge so your ripper has something to stop against or you could rip far more than you planned!😢

I like those nice wide straps. I tend to overload my bags with everything in the sewing room, then the narrower straps cut into my shoulder from the weight. Wider straps distribute the weight so they don’t cut in so much. I know, take less stuff. But then there’s always something I need but didn’t bring! 😊

It’s 3:10 pm in San Antonio TX! This bag is awesome and I’m going to make this bag for my sister who crochets. Some of the interior pocket areas will be adjusted for her crochet hooks, patterns, etc. And, of course I’m going to make this for me as well! A little tip-after sewing the inside pockets together and before top stitching, press the seam open using steam if necessary. Fold together and press again. You won’t need to roll the seam-it will lay flat for topstitching!

I just made this bag. It was actually pretty easy. I bought the patter but this video made it all make perfect sense. The only are struggle I had was with sewing the binding on. The throat on my machine isn’t really big so sewing the straps on was a struggle as well. Next time I make it I will try sewing the straps on before putting it together. Still this big was amazing, it is a secret Santa exchange gift.

I just received this pattern today. I am a novice when it comes to bag making. I love how concise the instructions are. But after reading them, I came to YT to see if there was a tutorial. Your tutorial shows me visually and verbally, and that is a great way for me to learn, alongside written instructions. Thank you.

I recommend double stitching the bottom seams and side seams of the tote for extra reinforcement, especially if you plan to use heavy objects in the tote. It will last longer and hold its shape better. I agree with others that a zipper close for the top of the tote would also be helpful. Good tutorial!

I’m not sure about using/needing a snap and a zipper - it’s just me and not wanting to fool with those closures that I probably would use anyway.

5:15 After ironing in the 2nd fabric, before quilting, put a small square of painters tape over the snap to remember not to quilt there. When I quilt I get in a zone and would forget to pay attention! Or I'd pre-mark the quilting pattern to make sure I avoided the magnetic snap. 💖🌞🌵😷

I would probably draw my first line on both sides of the snap and go out from there,

@@jeanmezera , something to make it stand out, for sure! ... For instance, when I sew a pillow, I have to celebrate the start/stop marks so I don't close up the hole... I hate ripping out! And hitting that snap will surely break a needle! Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵😷 (chilly today only 66f, rain tomorrow.)

Great idea about the blue tape. Years ago I introduced my guild,to a tool called a Hera marker - I’m thinking/remembering? that it’s a Japanese tailor marker - it just leaves a nice crease but not a permanent crease - just enough to see and sew through.
@suzisaintjames

@@sandybruce9092 , clover still sells them. My mom used one when I was itty bitty and I think I still have hers. You can use it with a ruler to draw "lines" (more like faint creases), but I remember that she also used it with tracing paper instead of the tracing wheel with the sharp points... The advantage of using the hera is the faint creases (something like a ballpoint pen leaves on the page underneath) instead of all those holes. I don't use it for marking as you suggested because I can't see the crease under the needle... the light is wrong. 💖🌞🌵😷

Thank you so much for this tutorial Misty. My sister-in-law and I belong to a Craft Group at our Church where we make goods to sell at Community Fairs 3 - 4 times per year to raise money for Charity. I made myself a large tote bag for carrying fabrics and in progress Quilts plus another Block Carrier bag with large side pockets (1 for my Oliso folding Cutting Mat, the other for carrying my Longer and/or Larger Rulers. There's also divided pockets inside). These bags are much admired by the Craft Group ladies - the exteriors are patchwork. S-i-Law said she'd love a knitting bag made along similar lines and you have provided the perfect bag. The large zip pocket internal bag is perfect for storing knitting needles etc. and the snap-fastened section is perfect for patterns and the like. Thank you again.

In the first step when the Bosal is fused to the lining, I am confused about how this would work when the interfacing is double sided. How did you manage to fuse just one side of the double sided fusible interfacing to the fabric? You can't iron on the fusible side of interfacing, so how did this work?

Questions: 1. Basting edges so stitching isn't seen... just sewing on the overhang of the fabric & not including the Bosal Craft-Tex? When stitching on the large pieces? 2. Small Pockets: same idea for stitching 1/4" along the edges, to not include the Woven Cotten Shape-flex interfacing? Comment: although the camera sort of got close to showing us the detail, we could not see any quilting stitches....a huge let down... 3. Why wasn't backstitching used on all seams, for reinforcement? 4. Glad to see the handles long enough to actually place on your shoulder! 5. Was the snap placed high enough on the back of the inside bCk pocket, to actually close above the long edge of your self-healing cutting mat... I didn't catch that the measurement was included; sorry... 5. Close-up camera work when cutting the 1/4" tab & when sewing it, was very helpful! Then, the explanation helped it all make sense to me! It's a beautiful tote, Misty; many thanks. Maybe add a closure zipper for the entire tote, so items have less of a chance falling out.... like when packing the tote bag in the car... [um, have had to gather items that have fallen out, before...]

Also a senior citizen here - maybe you could piece so,e nice quilt blocks and make a big piece of fabric using these blocks as the basic parts of the bag - if you already have fabrics. I know how expensive fabrics are and honestly I think I might skip the snap and zipper, too. The Bosal is a little pricey but this bag really does need some stability so maybe a few layers of some stiff interfacing from JoAnn’s (on sale!!!) might work. It’s on sale many times at 50% off - and JoAnn’s also has fabrics in several price lines from really low priced to a price like the quilt stores. I do charity quilts for kids and wait for really good discounts on fabrics there so I don’t have to spend a whole bunch on quilts that will probably get very used and loved!!!!!
