I found a roll of this tape in my garage. I had no idea what it was for, found your video, and as it turns out I've got a use: protecting the frame of my bike from the kick-stand coming up & banging on the frame, chipping the paint. I can imagine many uses for this stuff. Thanks!

Glad you found a good use for that tape!

Great tip(s)!!! I'll be hittin up Lowe's tomorrow for sure. Can also use small pieces around cable housings where they tap on the frame. Heat gun tip is priceless! Really does help it to set up and stay stuck for extended use. Plain electrical tape unravels and chips easily. Thanks for this, I appreciate a quiet bike for sure.

I order some of that 3m tape and It was a very good investment. I made some custom patters for certain areas on the frame and it came out pretty good. Thanks for the idea!

Very nice. To take away a lot of that chain slap, swith your derailleur clutch to the on position. Or adjust it if it already is on.

Kyle & April - Ride MTB Just wondering is there any cheaper version of scotch tape because it’s £20
@valderja4 жыл бұрын
Old inner tube cut and spiralled around the chainstay, two cable ties. Practically free and very effective.

It's probably irrelevant mentioning now, that your rear derailleur clutch (Shimano Shadow+) ist turned off. You need to flip the lever towards the rear of the bike. You are even slightly moving it with your thumb at 4:58.

Good video. Would a clutch derailleur PLUS a chain guide prevent the need for this DIY?

Where do you recommend for park riding in Idaho? Moving here from California not too long ago. Being close to B.C. is amazing, but have heard good things about Silver Mtn

Yhigma yeah Kellogg is amazing! I have also heard really good things about grand targhee in Jackson Wyoming and we spend a ton of time riding at Jug Mountain!

Have you tried kydex for mtb protection?

what are you thoughts on using an old tire tube
@AprilRideMTB4 жыл бұрын
That works well too! Maybe not quite as sleek or quiet but it definitely protects the paint
@claireshearman76584 жыл бұрын
do you rate this technique over the neoprene chainstay protectors you can buy?
@mtbvideos693111 ай бұрын
I bought it but it sticks from both sides. Is it normal?

Does using this type of protection damage the paint?
@AprilRideMTB4 жыл бұрын
No it peels right off when you're done and at most you will need a little goo gone to clean up the adhesive marks.

I used my old factory grips, cut the end of and cut down the middle and held it on with zip ties

For the bottom you can just use a chain guide(the ones that zip tie on).

Those little "pockets" you made look like they'll rip right off after a chain strike or two. Should have made them first, then put the layer over top to have that professional finished look, and help them to last.

tl;dr: 3M 2228 Rubber Mastic Tape works well as a thick protective tape.

If your bike is black in color, it's fine. But for someone like me who has bright orange frame, it looks ridiculous. What I did is I double wrapped it with masking tape. In that way, I can preserve the color of my bike.

Have you never heard of clutch?
@AprilRideMTB4 жыл бұрын
yeah they work decently well but if you ride hard on rough terrain your clutch will still allow the chain to slap quite a bit

After all the technology i am suprised bike manufacturers have not come up with better ideas, after market plastic cases look bad. Snd the factory slap stickers are useless.
