This is a video that shows how to make a dime coin ring. This method involves dies and ball bearings. I got most of my ball bearings at Napa auto parts. I also got a few at the machine shop. The size ball bearing I use with dimes is 1/2"

Skylar, when using the ring stretcher I do the most minor taps to the lever and also flip the ring and reposition it numerous times in order to avoid sections where over-stretching can distort the ring. Thanks for these excellent tutorials 👍

Love your work, excellent craftsmanship. I punched a coin perfectly and came up with the idea of saving it for a template. I just position it over a coin and use a fine point sharpie to draw around the inside. It makes a perfectly sized circle that I can see in my punch hole. Thanks for the vids. Ive watched them all .

When you make a Presidential golden small dollar. what do you coat the inside of the ring with to keep the ring from turning the customer finger that black green color and the clad Quarter from doing the same thing. ALL YOUR VIDEOS ARE GREAT. Thanks for all your help. Jerry

I personally don't worry too much about that. But I do recommend if they want a coating to use clear fingernail polish or a jewelry sealer (which is basically the same thing. They need to be re applied weekly. That is why I don't really worry about it when I wear them. Krylon also makes a clear coat spray paint that seals them up for much longer. Thanks for the message! Cool Japanese Peso. During the invasion, when they occupied places like burma, myanmar, and the philippines, they would issue their own currency. Near the end citizens were starving because merchants refused to accept the issued Japanese banknotes and when accepted would charge $1,000+ to upwards of $10,000 for a simple egg. Similar things happened in Zimbabwe with the multi trillion banknote. Hope you find the info useful. As a contebt creator, I enjoy my backdrops and wish they got more attention, so... Cool backdrop and video!

where do find the plate with the different holes that you call a die? i have searched and have had no success. thanks for your videos!
@CoinRingsfromTheMint
@CoinRingsfromTheMint 9 жыл бұрын
No problem! That die comes off the bottom of my ring sizing tool. You might have to buy the whole ring sizing tool to get it. If you don't want to do that, you can just use a doming block instead. I don't like that as much, but they work. Thanks! Skyler

Yes I have, it turns out good. I usually do thinner bands with quarters because it is good for women's rings or pinky rings.

Can you tell me where I can buy a reduction wheel that is good for making these coin Rings? The one that came with my ring stretcher machine is terrible. I had to sand and polish each reduction hole. But they are still not very smooth. They are not as big as the reduction wheels is in your videos and other videos. I tried searching the Internet and have come up with nothing. Sure could use some help. Thanks!! I enjoy your videos and have watched ALL of them!!

+Paul Linnell you can probably get a good reduction plate on ebay or Amazon. Mine is a Kagan die plate. I know I have seen other people use the durston ones. They will be replacement parts for the Kagan or durston stretcher reducers.

Any tips on annealing brass or bronze, say on an 5 Aurar Iceland coin or 1000 peso Mexican coins?

Brass and bronze are very similar to copper. You can heat them up to a nice dull red.

Please explain hole punch sizes. Am I correct in saying that if I punch a large hole in the coin, my ring will be easier to form and end up thinner, where as if I punch a small hole, the ring will take more beef to form it and it will end up a thicker ring?

I just started making rings and make the whole thing on the mandrel. But I was wondering if you do any sort of cleaning to your mandrel after use. Thanks man
@CoinRingsfromTheMint
@CoinRingsfromTheMint 9 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. I used to sand my mandrel every now and then to keep the coins from sliding down the mandrel too quickly. I noticed that over time the mandrel got smoother and made coins larger and larger. I only sanded a mandrel with 200 plus grit and never sanded the mandrel that I used to size with.
